Indications

• Emergency treatment for acute oral poisoning or drug overdose

• Works by absorbing toxic substances or drugs, reducing their absorption into the blood, and aiding elimination from the body

Key Features

• Contains activated charcoal in the form of very fine granules

• Not absorbed into the blood – passes through the gut unchanged

• Typically administered under medical supervision

• For single use only

Warnings & Precautions

• Do not take if you have already taken:

  • A medicine to induce vomiting

  • An oral antidote such as methionine (will be absorbed by Carbomix)

• Limited effectiveness for poisoning caused by:

  • Corrosive substances (acids or alkalis)

  • Cyanide

  • Iron salts

  • Certain solvents (e.g. methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol)

• May make immediate endoscopy procedures more difficult

• Can stain if spilt

Important Information

• Contains glycerol, which may cause headache, stomach upset, or diarrhoea in some patients
