Compression Garment – Indications

  • Provides light compression

  • Suitable for:

    • Early/mild chronic oedema

    • Lymphoedema

    • Lipoedema

    • Prophylaxis and maintenance therapy

    • Palliative use

    • Patients who are pressure sensitive


Contraindications

  • Large or irregularly shaped limbs (compression bandaging may be needed until limb size/shape is suitable)

  • Current acute inflammatory episode

  • Acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

  • Fragile or damaged skin (unless covered with appropriate dressing)

  • Diabetic patients (only after specialist referral and strict supervision)

  • Arterial insufficiency, arterial disease, or ischaemia (per vascular assessment)

  • ABPI <0.8 or >1.3 (unless under specialist supervision and regular follow-up)

  • Congestive cardiac failure (compression may cause cardiac overload)

  • Peripheral neuropathy

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Known sensitivity to the fabric of the stockings
