UrgoStart Plus Border is a sterile, all-in-one adhesive wound dressing with TLC-NOSF healing matrix and poly-absorbent fibres, designed for the management of moderately to heavily exuding wounds at risk of delayed healing.

The dressing combines wound cleansing, exudate management and a moist wound-healing environment in a single bordered dressing. Its TLC-NOSF healing matrix helps reduce excess matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), while the poly-absorbent fibres trap and retain exudate, slough and wound debris.

UrgoStart Plus Border can be used throughout the different stages of wound healing, including sloughy, granulating and epithelialising wounds.

TLC-NOSF healing matrix:

UrgoStart Plus Border contains Urgo Medical's TLC-NOSF technology.

TLC-NOSF combines a lipido-colloid wound-contact matrix with Nano-OligoSaccharide Factor – sucrose octasulfate.

In chronic and hard-to-heal wounds, excessive levels of matrix metalloproteinases can contribute to degradation of components required for normal wound healing.

The TLC-NOSF matrix helps reduce excess MMP activity and supports a wound environment more favourable to healing.

Poly-absorbent fibres:

The dressing contains poly-absorbent fibres which help:

  • Absorb wound exudate
  • Trap slough
  • Retain wound debris within the dressing
  • Continuously support cleansing of the wound bed

The fibres work together with the highly absorbent layer to manage moderate to high levels of exudate.

Suitable wound types include:

UrgoStart Plus Border is indicated for moderately to heavily exuding wounds including:

  • Leg ulcers
  • Venous leg ulcers
  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Pressure injuries / pressure ulcers
  • Chronic wounds
  • Other wounds considered at risk of delayed or prolonged healing

It can be used across wound-bed stages including:

  • Sloughy wounds
  • Granulating wounds
  • Epithelialising wounds

The dressing should always be used as part of an appropriate overall wound-management plan, including treatment of the underlying cause of the wound.

UrgoStart Plus Border Sacrum:

A specially shaped 20cm × 20cm Sacrum dressing is available for wounds in the sacral area, particularly sacral pressure injuries.

It uses the same TLC-NOSF, poly-absorbent and bordered dressing technology but is anatomically shaped to improve positioning around the sacrum.

How to use:

UrgoStart Plus Border should be applied by, or according to the instructions of, an appropriately trained healthcare professional.

Before application:

  1. Wash or disinfect hands and use appropriate clinical gloves.
  2. Clean the wound according to the prescribed wound-care protocol.
  3. Debride the wound where clinically necessary.
  4. Gently dry the surrounding skin.
  5. Check that the sterile dressing pouch is intact.

To apply:

  1. Select a dressing size that allows the absorbent pad to cover the wound adequately.
  2. Remove the protective films.
  3. Position the central wound-contact pad directly over the wound.
  4. Smooth the silicone adhesive border onto the surrounding intact skin.
  5. Ensure that the dressing is securely positioned without tension or wrinkles.

Do not cut UrgoStart Plus Border.

If a dressing needs to be cut to shape, another appropriate product such as UrgoStart Plus Pad may be more suitable.

Dressing changes:

The dressing should be changed according to:

  • Exudate level
  • Wound condition
  • Condition of the surrounding skin
  • Clinical assessment

During the wound-cleansing phase, more frequent changes may be required.

Once the wound is progressing appropriately, the interval between dressing changes may be increased.

Maximum wear time: up to 7 days, where clinically appropriate.

Change earlier if:

  • The dressing becomes saturated
  • Exudate approaches or reaches the dressing border
  • Leakage occurs
  • The dressing becomes loose
  • The wound requires reassessment
  • There are signs of infection or deterioration

Removal:

For removal:

  1. Gently press the surrounding skin down.
  2. Lift one corner of the dressing.
  3. Slowly peel the dressing away from the wound.

The TLC-NOSF contact layer and silicone border are designed to support gentle, atraumatic removal.
