Coloplast SenSura® Mio 1-Piece Drainable Pouches are flat, one-piece ileostomy appliances designed for people with an ileostomy or another stoma producing liquid or semi-liquid output.

The pouch and adhesive baseplate are permanently joined to form a complete one-piece appliance. SenSura® Mio incorporates Coloplast's BodyFit Technology® with an elastic adhesive, designed to follow individual body contours and natural movement while maintaining secure contact with the skin.

The pouch also incorporates Coloplast's full-circle pre-filter, designed to help reduce ballooning, together with a soft textile covering and a drainable fold-away outlet that allows the pouch to be emptied repeatedly throughout the day.

The flat SenSura® Mio drainable range is available in Mini, Midi, Maxi, Maxi XL and Maxi XXL, with Neutral Grey, Transparent and Black options and a choice of cut-to-fit or pre-cut openings.

One-piece system

SenSura® Mio is a one-piece appliance.

The pouch and adhesive baseplate are permanently integrated.

This means:

• There is no mechanical coupling ring

A one-piece system provides a relatively flexible and low-profile appliance.

Drainable / open pouch

SenSura® Mio 1-piece open is a drainable pouch.

This makes it particularly suitable for ileostomy output, which is commonly liquid or semi-liquid and may need to be emptied several times during the day.

Unlike a closed colostomy pouch, the appliance does not need to be removed every time it fills.

Instead, the user can:

• Open the drainage outlet

• Empty the contents

• Clean the end of the outlet

• Securely close it again

• Continue wearing the appliance

The pouch should normally be emptied before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Flat baseplate

This listing covers the flat SenSura® Mio range.

There is no integral convexity.

A flat appliance is generally most appropriate where:

• The stoma protrudes adequately

• The surrounding abdominal area provides a suitable sealing surface

• The stoma does not require additional convex support

Separate SenSura® Mio Convex Soft, Convex Light, Convex Deep and Concave ranges are available for different body profiles.

A flush or retracted stoma, recurrent leakage or significant dips and folds may require assessment for another baseplate profile.

BodyFit Technology®

SenSura® Mio uses an elastic adhesive incorporating BodyFit Technology®.

The adhesive is designed to stretch and move with the body while maintaining secure skin contact.

This helps the appliance adapt to:

Full-circle pre-filter

Gas produced by the bowel can accumulate within an ileostomy pouch and cause the pouch to inflate or balloon.

The full-circle design helps protect the filter from stoma output and maintain airflow for longer.

After emptying and cleaning, the outlet can be folded and secured away, helping reduce bulk at the bottom of the pouch.

Textile woven cover

Covered SenSura® Mio pouches use a soft textile woven material designed to look and feel more like clothing than traditional medical pouch material.

Cut-to-fit or pre-cut?

Cut-to-fit

The opening is manually cut to match the individual stoma.

Ranges include:

• 10–45mm

• 10–55mm

• 10–70mm

• 10–100mm

Cut-to-fit products are useful where:

• Stoma size does not match a fixed pre-cut opening

• The stoma is irregularly shaped

• Stoma dimensions are changing

• A more individual opening is required

Pre-cut

The opening is already manufactured at a fixed diameter.

Available standard options include:

• 25mm

• 30mm

• 35mm

• 40mm

Pre-cut pouches may be convenient where the stoma has reached a stable size.

Choosing the correct opening:

Measure the stoma using an appropriate measuring guide.

For cut-to-fit pouches, carefully cut the adhesive opening according to the measured size and shape.

For pre-cut pouches, choose the opening that provides the closest appropriate fit.

The opening should:

• Fit closely around the stoma

• Avoid rubbing against it

• Avoid constricting it

• Minimise exposed peristomal skin

This is particularly important with an ileostomy because liquid output contains digestive enzymes that can irritate exposed skin.

An opening that is too large may allow output beneath the adhesive.

An opening that is too small may rub against or constrict the stoma.

Directions:

Wash and dry your hands.

Measure the stoma if using a cut-to-fit appliance or if its size has changed.

Prepare the opening as required.

Ensure the drainable outlet is completely closed.

Gently remove the existing appliance while supporting the surrounding skin.

Clean the skin around the stoma according to the normal stoma-care routine.

Ensure the skin is appropriately clean and dry.

Remove the protective backing from the SenSura® Mio adhesive.

Centre the opening carefully around the stoma.

Apply the adhesive and press gently but firmly against the skin.

Smooth the baseplate outward.

Check the entire adhesive area for:

• Gaps

• Creases

• Folds

• Areas without complete skin contact

Apply gentle hand pressure to help establish a secure seal.

Emptying the pouch:

Empty the pouch before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Position the outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle.

Release the folded drainage outlet.

Open the outlet.

Allow the pouch contents to drain.

Clean the end of the outlet as required.

Fold the outlet according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Secure it completely.

Check that it is properly closed before repositioning clothing.

Changing the appliance:

Because this is a one-piece pouch, the complete pouch and adhesive are removed together.

Wash and dry your hands.

Gently release an edge of the adhesive.

Support the surrounding skin while slowly peeling the appliance away.

Avoid rapidly pulling the adhesive from the skin.

Dispose of the used appliance appropriately.

Clean and inspect the skin before applying the replacement pouch.

• Convexity should be selected following appropriate stoma assessment

• Seek advice from a Stoma Care Nurse for recurrent leakage, persistent skin irritation, changes in stoma size or uncertainty regarding appliance selection

• Significant changes in stoma colour, severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, marked swelling or unexpected cessation of ileostomy output with symptoms of obstruction require appropriate clinical assessment
