Coloplast Assura® 1-Piece Closed Colostomy Pouch – Maxi, Clear, 20mm Starter Hole – Pack of 30 (Ref: 2481)

£145.00
In stock

Coloplast Assura® 2481 is a one-piece closed colostomy pouch with a Maxi pouch size, clear pouch and 20mm starter hole, designed primarily for people with a colostomy producing formed or relatively predictable output.

The pouch and adhesive skin barrier are permanently joined to form a complete one-piece ostomy appliance. When the pouch requires changing, the entire appliance is removed and replaced.

Assura® incorporates Coloplast's spiral adhesive technology, which combines secure adhesion with moisture absorption to help protect the skin surrounding the stoma.

The pouch also features an integrated filter, soft backing and odour-proof pouch film to provide practical and discreet everyday colostomy management.

Key features:

  • One-piece closed colostomy pouch

  • Coloplast reference 2481

Suitable for:

  • Colostomy

  • Stomas producing formed or semi-formed output

  • Users who prefer a closed pouch

  • Users requiring a Maxi capacity

  • Users requiring a starter-hole appliance that can be adjusted to fit their stoma

  • Users who prefer a clear pouch

  • People who prefer a one-piece ostomy system

  • Stomas suitable for a flat adhesive appliance

One-piece system

Assura® 2481 is a one-piece ostomy appliance.

The adhesive skin barrier and pouch are permanently fixed together.

This means:

  • There is no separate baseplate

  • There is no mechanical coupling between the pouch and baseplate

  • The pouch cannot be removed independently of the adhesive

  • The entire appliance is removed and replaced during a pouch change

A one-piece system provides a relatively low-profile appliance with fewer separate components.

Closed pouch

Reference 2481 is a closed pouch.

It does not incorporate a drainage outlet and is therefore designed to be removed and replaced rather than emptied.

Closed pouches are particularly suitable where stoma output is:

  • Formed

  • Semi-formed

  • Relatively predictable

  • Produced at manageable intervals

They are therefore commonly used by people with a colostomy.

For frequent liquid output, such as that commonly associated with an ileostomy, a drainable pouch will generally be more practical.

Maxi pouch size

Reference 2481 is the Maxi version of the Assura® closed pouch.

The larger pouch capacity may be useful for users who:

  • Produce a greater volume of output

  • Prefer additional collection capacity

  • Want to reduce the frequency of pouch changes

  • Find a smaller Midi pouch insufficient for their requirements

The pouch should still be replaced before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Excessive pouch weight can place unnecessary strain on the adhesive and reduce discretion.

20mm starter hole

Reference 2481 has a 20mm starter hole.

Unlike the ready-cut variants, the opening is intended to be enlarged to fit the individual stoma using the cutting guide provided on the adhesive.

The 20mm measurement therefore describes the initial opening and should not be interpreted as meaning the pouch is only suitable for a 20mm stoma.

The required opening should be prepared according to the actual measured size and shape of the stoma and within the manufacturer's permitted cutting area.

Choosing the correct opening size:

Measure the stoma using an appropriate stoma measuring guide.

Trace the required size and shape onto the cutting guide on the adhesive.

Carefully enlarge the starter hole to the required size.

The finished opening should:

  • Fit closely around the stoma

  • Avoid touching or constricting the stoma

  • Minimise exposed peristomal skin

  • Follow the actual shape of the stoma where necessary

An opening that is too large can expose surrounding skin to stoma output and increase the risk of irritation or leakage.

An opening that is too small can rub against or constrict the stoma.

Do not cut outside the manufacturer's designated cutting area.

Starter hole or ready-cut?

The Assura® Maxi Clear range includes both starter-hole and ready-cut options.

2481 – Starter hole

  • 20mm initial opening

  • Can be enlarged to fit the individual stoma

  • Useful where a fixed pre-cut diameter is not appropriate

Ready-cut versions

  • 2484 – 25mm

  • 2485 – 30mm

  • 2486 – 35mm

  • 2487 – 40mm

  • 2488 – 45mm

  • 2489 – 50mm

Ready-cut variants may be convenient where the stoma has reached a stable size that matches one of the available fixed diameters.

Assura® spiral adhesive

Assura® uses Coloplast's spiral adhesive system.

The adhesive combines different materials in a spiral structure to provide two important functions:

  • Secure adhesion

  • Absorption of moisture from the skin

The adhesive is designed to help maintain reliable contact with the body while absorbing moisture from the peristomal area.

This helps provide:

  • Secure appliance attachment

  • Skin protection

  • Moisture management

  • Flexibility during normal movement

The adhesive should be applied to appropriately clean and dry skin.

Integrated filter

Assura® 2481 incorporates an integrated filter.

Gas produced by the bowel can accumulate inside a closed colostomy pouch and cause it to inflate or balloon.

The filter helps:

  • Allow gas to escape gradually

  • Reduce pouch ballooning

  • Filter odour before gas is released

  • Maintain a flatter pouch profile

  • Improve discretion during wear

Do not deliberately puncture, cut or modify the filter.

Clear pouch

Reference 2481 is the Clear version.

The transparent pouch allows the user, carer or healthcare professional to see:

  • The stoma

  • Pouch contents

  • Output

  • The position of the appliance

This can be useful where visibility of the stoma and output is preferred.

Users who prefer the pouch contents to be concealed may prefer an opaque Assura® closed pouch.

Soft backing

The body-facing side of the pouch incorporates a soft backing material.

This provides a softer surface between the pouch and the skin than exposed pouch film alone.

The backing is designed to:

  • Improve comfort against the body

  • Allow the skin to breathe

  • Reduce pouch noise during movement

  • Improve everyday discretion

The pouch film itself is designed to be odour-proof.

Directions:

Wash and dry your hands before changing the appliance.

Measure the stoma carefully.

Using the cutting guide, enlarge the 20mm starter hole to the required size and shape.

Check the prepared opening against the measured stoma before removing the adhesive backing.

Gently remove the existing appliance while supporting the surrounding skin.

Clean the skin around the stoma according to the normal stoma-care routine.

Ensure the peristomal skin is appropriately clean and dry.

Remove the protective backing from the Assura® adhesive.

Centre the prepared opening carefully over the stoma.

Apply the adhesive around the stoma.

Press gently but firmly against the skin.

Smooth the adhesive outward to establish complete contact.

Check around the adhesive for:

  • Gaps

  • Creases

  • Folds

  • Areas where the adhesive has not made secure contact

Apply gentle hand pressure over the adhesive to help establish a secure seal.

Changing the pouch:

Because this is a closed pouch, the appliance is replaced rather than emptied.

Change the pouch before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

To remove:

Wash and dry your hands.

Gently lift the edge of the adhesive.

Support the surrounding skin while slowly peeling the appliance away.

Avoid pulling the adhesive rapidly from the skin.

Dispose of the used pouch appropriately.

Clean and inspect the peristomal skin before applying a new appliance.

Checking the skin

Check the skin surrounding the stoma at every appliance change.

Look for:

  • Redness

  • Soreness

  • Broken skin

  • Moisture damage

  • Itching

  • Signs of leakage beneath the adhesive

Persistent skin irritation or recurrent leakage can indicate that the opening size, adhesive or appliance profile is not providing an appropriate fit.
