Coloplast Assura Inspire® 13965 is a two-piece drainable ileostomy pouch with a 50mm mechanical coupling, designed for people with an ileostomy or another stoma producing liquid or semi-liquid output.

This variant has a Midi pouch size with Coloplast's opaque Design soft covering, an integrated filter and Hide-Away drainable outlet.

As part of the Assura® two-piece system, the pouch is attached to a separate compatible 50mm Assura® baseplate using a mechanical coupling. This allows the baseplate to remain attached to the skin while the pouch can be removed, repositioned or replaced independently.

The 50mm measurement refers to the coupling size between the pouch and baseplate and is not the diameter of the stoma.

Two-piece system

Assura Inspire® 13965 is a pouch component of a two-piece ostomy system.

The system consists of:

• A separate adhesive baseplate

• A removable drainable pouch

The pouch connects mechanically to the baseplate.

Unlike a one-piece appliance, the baseplate does not necessarily need to be removed every time the pouch is changed.

This can be useful where:

• The pouch needs changing more frequently than the baseplate

• The user wishes to reposition the pouch

• A different compatible pouch is required

• Reducing repeated adhesive removal from the skin is desirable

The baseplate is not included with this product and must be purchased separately if required.

50mm coupling size

Reference 13965 uses a 50mm Assura® mechanical coupling.

The 50mm measurement describes the diameter of the coupling mechanism between the pouch and baseplate.

It does not indicate:

• A 50mm stoma

• A 50mm pre-cut opening

• A 50mm maximum stoma size

The actual opening around the stoma is determined by the compatible baseplate selected.

The pouch must be used with a compatible 50mm Assura® baseplate.

A 50mm pouch cannot be securely connected to a 40mm or 60mm Assura® coupling.

Always match the pouch coupling size and baseplate coupling size exactly.

Mechanical coupling

The Assura® two-piece system uses a mechanical coupling to secure the pouch to the baseplate.

The pouch is pressed onto the coupling ring and locked into position.

An audible click provides reassurance that the pouch has been securely locked to the baseplate.

Before locking, the pouch can be rotated into the preferred position.

This can be useful for positioning the drainage outlet appropriately when:

• Standing

• Sitting

• Lying down

• Emptying the pouch

After attaching the pouch, check around the complete coupling to ensure it is fully engaged.

Midi pouch

Reference 13965 is the Midi pouch within the Assura Inspire® range.

Midi provides a balance between:

• Discretion

• Comfort

• Frequency of emptying

The appropriate pouch size depends on the individual's volume and consistency of stoma output, lifestyle and personal preference.

Drainable pouch

This is an open/drainable ostomy pouch.

People with an ileostomy generally produce output that is more liquid than typical colostomy output. A drainable pouch allows the contents to be emptied repeatedly without removing the appliance.

The pouch should normally be emptied before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Regular emptying helps:

• Reduce weight pulling on the baseplate

• Reduce pressure on the coupling

• Improve discretion

• Improve comfort

• Reduce the risk of accidental leakage or detachment

Hide-Away outlet

The pouch incorporates Coloplast's Hide-Away outlet.

The outlet is designed for straightforward emptying of liquid or semi-liquid stoma output.

After emptying and cleaning, the outlet can be folded and concealed within the pouch covering.

This helps:

• Reduce bulk at the bottom of the pouch

• Improve comfort

• Improve discretion beneath clothing

• Prevent the outlet hanging freely against the body

Always ensure the outlet is completely closed before folding it away.

Integrated filter

Assura Inspire® 13965 incorporates an integrated filter.

Gas naturally produced by the bowel can accumulate inside an ostomy pouch and cause the pouch to inflate or balloon.

The filter helps:

• Allow gas to escape gradually

• Reduce pouch ballooning

• Neutralise odour before gas is released

• Maintain a flatter pouch profile

• Improve discretion

Do not puncture or alter the filter.

Opaque Design soft cover

Reference 13965 is the Design version of the Assura Inspire® pouch.

It incorporates an opaque soft covering on the front and back, helping conceal the pouch contents and providing a softer surface against the body.

The covered design can improve:

• Discretion beneath clothing

• Comfort against the skin

• Handling of the pouch

• Appearance compared with a fully transparent pouch

Choosing the correct baseplate

The pouch must be paired with a compatible 50mm Assura® baseplate.

Baseplate selection depends on factors including:

• Stoma diameter

• Stoma shape

• Whether the opening is cut-to-fit or pre-cut

• Peristomal skin condition

• Abdominal contours

• Whether flat or convex support is required

The opening in the baseplate should fit closely around the stoma without touching or constricting it.

The 50mm pouch coupling does not determine the required stoma opening.

Where appliance fit is uncertain, consult a Stoma Care Nurse.

Flat or convex baseplate?

The pouch itself does not provide convexity.

Any convexity is provided by the compatible baseplate selected.

A flat baseplate may be suitable where the stoma protrudes adequately and the surrounding abdominal surface allows a secure seal.

Convexity may be considered where the stoma is:

• Flush with the skin

• Mildly or significantly retracted

• Located within a dip

• Situated within folds or uneven contours

• Associated with persistent leakage from a flat appliance

Convex products should be selected following appropriate stoma assessment.

Attaching the pouch:

Ensure the compatible 50mm Assura® baseplate has been correctly applied.

Check that the coupling ring is clean and unobstructed.

Position the pouch over the baseplate coupling.

If required, rotate the pouch into the preferred position before locking.

Press the pouch and baseplate together according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Secure the mechanical locking mechanism.

Confirm the audible click indicating that the system is locked.

Check around the complete circumference of the coupling.

Gently check that the pouch is securely attached before repositioning clothing.

Emptying the pouch:

Empty the pouch before it becomes excessively full.

Position yourself appropriately over a toilet or suitable receptacle.

Release the Hide-Away outlet from its stored position.

Open the drainage outlet.

Direct the outlet into the toilet.

Allow the pouch contents to drain.

Clean the outlet as required.

Close the outlet completely.

Fold the outlet back into its Hide-Away position.

Check that the outlet remains securely closed.

Changing the pouch:

The pouch can be removed from the baseplate without necessarily removing the baseplate from the skin.

Wash and dry your hands.

Release the mechanical coupling according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Carefully separate the pouch from the baseplate.

Check the existing baseplate for:

• Leakage

• Lifting

• Damage

• Output beneath the adhesive

• Deterioration of the seal

If the baseplate remains secure and clinically appropriate to leave in place, attach a new compatible 50mm pouch.

If leakage or adhesive failure is evident, the baseplate should also be changed.
