Coloplast SenSura® Mio 1-Piece Closed Pouches are flat, one-piece closed colostomy appliances designed primarily for people with a colostomy producing formed or relatively predictable output.

SenSura® Mio combines Coloplast's elastic adhesive with BodyFit Technology®, a flexible textile pouch covering and a full-circle filter designed to help the appliance adapt to individual body contours while remaining discreet beneath clothing.

The pouch and adhesive baseplate are permanently joined, creating a complete one-piece appliance. When the pouch requires changing, the entire appliance is removed and replaced.

A wide range of Mini, Midi and Maxi pouch sizes, together with cut-to-fit and pre-cut openings, allows users to select an appliance according to their stoma size, required capacity and personal preference.

One-piece system

SenSura® Mio 1-piece closed combines the pouch and adhesive baseplate into one integrated appliance.

There is no separate mechanical coupling or detachable pouch.

When the appliance requires changing:

• The complete pouch is removed

• The adhesive baseplate is removed at the same time

• A new complete appliance is applied

One-piece systems offer a relatively low-profile construction and eliminate the additional coupling ring found on two-piece appliances.

Closed pouch

These SenSura® Mio products are closed pouches.

They do not have a drainage outlet.

When the pouch contains sufficient output to require changing, the whole appliance is removed and replaced.

Closed pouches are generally best suited to stoma output that is:

• Formed

• Semi-formed

• Relatively predictable

• Produced at manageable intervals

They are therefore primarily intended for colostomy.

For frequent liquid output, such as typical ileostomy output, a drainable/open pouch will generally be more practical.

Flat baseplate

This listing covers the standard flat SenSura® Mio 1-piece closed range.

The baseplate does not incorporate integral convexity.

Flat appliances are generally appropriate where:

• The stoma protrudes sufficiently above skin level

• The surrounding skin provides an appropriate sealing surface

• Significant convex support is not required

Separate SenSura® Mio Convex Soft, Light and Deep ranges are available for stomas requiring convex support and should not be confused with these flat products.

Convexity should be selected following appropriate stoma assessment.

BodyFit Technology®

SenSura® Mio incorporates an elastic adhesive with BodyFit Technology®.

The adhesive is designed to stretch and retract with the skin and body contours rather than behaving as a rigid flat surface.

This allows the appliance to adapt to:

• Natural abdominal curves

• Movement

• Sitting

• Bending

• Changes in body position

Maintaining close contact with the skin helps support a secure seal and reduce areas where stoma output could reach the peristomal skin.

Full-circle filter

SenSura® Mio incorporates Coloplast's full-circle filter.

Gas produced by the bowel can collect inside a closed pouch and cause it to inflate or balloon.

The full-circle design provides a larger filtering surface and is designed to help:

• Improve gas flow through the filter

• Reduce pouch ballooning

• Filter odour before gas is released

• Help maintain a flatter pouch profile

• Improve discretion during wear

Coloplast reports that its full-circle filter significantly reduces incidents of ballooning compared with conventional filter designs.

Do not deliberately puncture, cut or otherwise modify the filter.

Textile woven cover

SenSura® Mio uses a soft textile woven cover designed to look and feel more like clothing material than a conventional medical pouch.

The fabric is:

The standard covered variants are available in Neutral Grey, with newer Black options also available.

Inspection window

Covered SenSura® Mio closed pouches incorporate an inspection window.

This allows the covering to be opened when required so that the user or healthcare professional can view:

• The stoma

• Appliance positioning

• Output

• The area immediately surrounding the stoma

When closed, the textile covering conceals the pouch contents for discretion.

Clear option

Reference 10691 is the Maxi Transparent/Clear variant.

Unlike the covered versions, this allows continuous visibility of the stoma and pouch contents.

A clear pouch may be useful:

• Immediately following surgery

• When monitoring the stoma

• When assessing output

• Where a carer assists with stoma management

• Where direct visibility is preferred

Mini, Midi or Maxi?

SenSura® Mio closed pouches are available in different capacities.

Mini

The smallest and most compact option.

Mini may suit users with lower-volume or highly predictable colostomy output who prioritise discretion.

Midi

Provides a balance between pouch capacity and compact size.

Midi is available in both cut-to-fit and several pre-cut opening sizes.

Maxi

Provides greater collection capacity.

Maxi may be preferable where output volume is higher or the user wants additional capacity between pouch changes.

Maxi XL and Maxi XXL

These variants provide larger cutting ranges for people with larger stomas:

• 18370 – 10–70mm

• 18372 – 10–100mm

They should be selected according to actual stoma size and required appliance dimensions.

Cut-to-fit or pre-cut?

Two principal opening types are available.

Cut-to-fit

The opening is manually cut to match the measured size and shape of the stoma.

Available ranges include:

• 15–45mm

• 15–55mm

• 10–70mm

• 10–100mm

Cut-to-fit appliances are useful where:

• The stoma does not match a standard pre-cut diameter

• The stoma is not perfectly circular

• Stoma size is still changing

• A more individually shaped opening is required

Pre-cut

The adhesive opening is manufactured at a fixed diameter.

Available standard pre-cut sizes include:

• 25mm

• 30mm

• 35mm

• 40mm

Pre-cut appliances may be convenient where the stoma has reached a stable size that matches one of the available openings.

Choosing the correct opening:

Measure the stoma using an appropriate measuring guide.

For cut-to-fit appliances, cut the adhesive opening according to the measured size and shape of the stoma.

For pre-cut appliances, select a diameter that provides an appropriate fit.

The opening should:

• Fit closely around the stoma

• Avoid touching or constricting it

• Minimise exposed peristomal skin

• Follow the shape of the stoma where required

An opening that is too large may allow stoma output to contact the surrounding skin and contribute to leakage or irritation.

An opening that is too small may rub against or constrict the stoma.

Directions:

Wash and dry your hands before changing the appliance.

Measure the stoma if using a cut-to-fit pouch or if there has been any change in stoma size.

Prepare the adhesive opening if required.

Gently remove the existing appliance while supporting the surrounding skin.

Clean the peristomal skin according to the normal stoma-care routine.

Ensure the skin is appropriately clean and dry.

Remove the protective backing from the SenSura® Mio adhesive.

Centre the opening carefully over the stoma.

Apply the adhesive around the stoma.

Press gently but firmly against the skin.

Smooth the adhesive outward to establish complete contact.

Check for:

• Gaps

• Folds

• Creases

• Areas where the adhesive has not made secure contact

Apply gentle hand pressure around the baseplate to help establish a secure seal.

Changing the pouch:

Because this is a closed one-piece appliance, the complete pouch is removed and replaced rather than emptied.

Change the appliance before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

To remove:

Wash and dry your hands.

Gently lift the edge of the adhesive.

Support the surrounding skin while slowly peeling the appliance away.

Avoid pulling the pouch rapidly from the skin.

Dispose of the used appliance appropriately.

Clean and inspect the peristomal skin before applying a new pouch.

• Seek advice from a Stoma Care Nurse for recurrent leakage, persistent skin irritation, changes in stoma size or uncertainty regarding appliance selection

• Significant changes in stoma colour, marked swelling, severe abdominal pain or other concerning symptoms require appropriate clinical assessment
