Variants

Coloplast SenSura® Mio Concave 1-Piece Closed Pouches are one-piece closed colostomy appliances specifically designed to fit outward body profiles such as curves, bulges and parastomal hernias.

Unlike a conventional flat or convex baseplate, SenSura® Mio Concave has a curved, star-shaped baseplate designed to hug a rounded abdominal surface. The individual petals of the baseplate conform around the curved area, helping reduce unwanted creasing and folding of the adhesive.

A built-in stability ring supports the centre of the baseplate around the stoma, while flexible fit zones and Coloplast's BodyFit Technology® elastic adhesive allow the outer areas of the appliance to move with the body.

SenSura® Mio Concave closed pouches also incorporate a full-circle pre-filter to help manage gas and reduce ballooning, together with a soft textile covering on Neutral Grey versions.

The pouch and adhesive baseplate are permanently integrated, forming a complete one-piece closed appliance that is removed and replaced when a pouch change is required.

What is SenSura® Mio Concave?

SenSura® Mio Concave is designed specifically for an outward body profile around the stoma.

This is fundamentally different from a convex appliance.

A convex appliance curves towards the body to provide pressure around a flush or retracted stoma.

A concave appliance is designed to fit over an outward curve or bulge.

Typical outward profiles can include:

  • Rounded abdominal areas

  • Bulges around the stoma

  • Parastomal hernias

  • Prominent curves

  • Outward changes in abdominal shape

The SenSura® Mio Concave baseplate is shaped so that it can wrap around this curved surface rather than attempting to force a conventional flat adhesive onto it.

Concave versus Convex

These terms should not be confused.

Concave

Designed for an outward body profile, such as:

  • Bulges

  • Curves

  • Parastomal hernias

The appliance curves around the outward shape of the abdomen.

Convex

Designed primarily for inward peristomal profiles or stomas requiring additional support to protrude.

Convexity may be appropriate for:

  • Flush stomas

  • Retracted stomas

  • Inward dips

  • Deep creases

Choosing between flat, convex and concave appliances should be based on both the stoma and the surrounding body profile.

Star-shaped baseplate

One of the main features of SenSura® Mio Concave is its star-shaped adhesive baseplate.

Instead of using a conventional circular or oval adhesive shape, the baseplate incorporates individual petal-like sections.

When applied over a rounded area, these petals are designed to:

  • Follow the curve of the abdomen

  • Wrap around the outward body profile

  • Reduce adhesive creasing

  • Reduce unwanted folds

  • Maintain closer contact with the skin

  • Allow movement around the curved area

This is particularly useful where a conventional flat adhesive tends to lift, crease or bridge across a prominent abdominal curve.

Built-in stability ring

SenSura® Mio Concave incorporates a stability ring around the centre of the baseplate.

The ring helps stabilise the area immediately surrounding the stoma.

This provides:

  • Support around the stoma

  • A defined central fitting zone

  • Guidance regarding where to apply pressure during application

  • Greater stability while the surrounding adhesive conforms to the curved body profile

The result is a combination of central stability and outer flexibility.

Fit zones

The Concave baseplate incorporates flexible fit zones within the centre and outer rim.

These allow different areas of the adhesive to adapt to the body as the user moves.

The fit zones are designed to support:

  • Sitting

  • Standing

  • Bending

  • Walking

  • Changes in posture

  • Natural movement of an abdominal bulge or hernia

This is particularly relevant because outward abdominal profiles can alter shape as body position changes.

BodyFit Technology®

SenSura® Mio Concave incorporates Coloplast's BodyFit Technology® elastic adhesive.

The adhesive is designed to stretch and retract with the body while maintaining close skin contact.

This helps the appliance adapt to:

  • Individual abdominal contours

  • Movement

  • Changes in posture

  • Curved body surfaces

Close adhesive contact is important in helping reduce gaps where stoma output could reach the peristomal skin.

One-piece system

SenSura® Mio Concave 1-piece closed combines the pouch and concave adhesive baseplate into one integrated appliance.

There is no separate mechanical coupling or removable pouch.

When the appliance needs changing:

  • The pouch is removed

  • The adhesive baseplate is removed at the same time

  • A complete new appliance is applied

This provides a relatively low-profile system without the coupling ring found on a two-piece appliance.

Closed pouch

This is a closed colostomy pouch.

There is no drainage outlet.

When the pouch contains sufficient output to require changing, the complete appliance is removed and replaced.

Closed pouches are particularly suitable where stoma output is:

  • Formed

  • Semi-formed

  • Relatively predictable

  • Produced at manageable intervals

They are therefore primarily intended for colostomy.

For frequent liquid or semi-liquid output, a drainable pouch is generally more practical.

A SenSura® Mio Concave 1-piece open/drainable range is available separately.

Full-circle pre-filter

SenSura® Mio Concave incorporates Coloplast's full-circle pre-filter.

Gas generated by the bowel can accumulate inside a closed pouch and cause the pouch to inflate or balloon.

The full-circle pre-filter is designed to:

  • Help protect the filter from stoma output

  • Maintain gas flow

  • Help reduce filter blockage

  • Reduce pouch ballooning

  • Filter odour before gas leaves the pouch

  • Help maintain a flatter pouch profile

This can improve comfort and discretion during wear.

Neutral Grey textile cover

Most SenSura® Mio Concave closed variants have Coloplast's Neutral Grey textile woven cover.

The covering is designed to resemble clothing fabric rather than conventional medical pouch material.

It is:

  • Soft against the body

  • Comfortable

  • Discreet beneath clothing

  • Water-repellent

  • Showerproof

The Neutral Grey shade is designed to remain discreet under a wide range of clothing colours.

Inspection window

The Neutral Grey variants incorporate an inspection window.

This allows the pouch to remain covered during normal wear while still permitting the user, carer or healthcare professional to inspect:

  • The stoma

  • Pouch positioning

  • Output

  • The area immediately surrounding the stoma

The window can be closed again after inspection for discretion.

Transparent option

Reference 18135 is the Maxi Transparent 10–60mm option.

The transparent pouch provides continuous visibility of:

  • The stoma

  • Stoma output

  • Pouch contents

  • Appliance positioning

This may be useful:

  • Following surgery

  • During stoma assessment

  • When monitoring output

  • Where a carer assists with stoma care

  • Where direct visibility is preferred

Mini, Midi or Maxi?

Mini

Reference 18100 is the smallest pouch in the range.

It provides:

  • A compact pouch profile

  • Neutral Grey covering

  • Inspection window

  • 10–40mm cut-to-fit opening

Mini may be suitable where output volume is relatively low and maximum discretion is preferred.

Midi

Midi provides a balance between capacity and compactness.

Available options include:

  • 18101 – 10–40mm

  • 18110 – 10–50mm

  • 18111 – pre-cut 25mm

  • 18112 – pre-cut 30mm

Maxi

Maxi provides greater collection capacity and the widest range of opening options.

Available Neutral Grey options include:

  • 18102 – 10–40mm

  • 18120 – 10–50mm

  • 18130 – 10–60mm

  • 18122 – pre-cut 30mm

  • 18123 – pre-cut 35mm

  • 18131 – pre-cut 40mm

Transparent:

  • 18135 – 10–60mm

Cut-to-fit options

The following cutting ranges are available:

  • 10–40mm

  • 10–50mm

  • 10–60mm

Cut-to-fit pouches may be appropriate where:

  • The stoma does not correspond to a standard pre-cut diameter

  • The stoma is irregularly shaped

  • Stoma size is changing

  • An individually shaped opening is required

The opening should always remain within the manufacturer's specified cutting range.

Pre-cut options

Pre-cut openings are available in:

  • 25mm

  • 30mm

  • 35mm

  • 40mm

Pre-cut products may be convenient where the stoma has reached a stable size that corresponds closely to one of the available openings.

Choosing the correct opening

Measure the stoma carefully using an appropriate measuring guide.

The finished opening should:

  • Fit closely around the stoma

  • Avoid rubbing against it

  • Avoid constricting it

  • Minimise exposed peristomal skin

  • Follow the actual stoma shape where necessary

An opening that is too large may expose surrounding skin to stoma output and increase the risk of irritation and leakage.

An opening that is too small may rub against or constrict the stoma.

Body profile is as important as stoma size

Selecting the correct stoma opening alone does not guarantee an appropriate appliance fit.

SenSura® Mio Concave is specifically designed for an outward body profile, so selection should consider:

  • Shape of the abdomen

  • Presence of a bulge

  • Presence of a parastomal hernia

  • Shape and size of the outward curve

  • Location of the stoma on the curve

  • Changes in abdominal shape when sitting and standing

  • Previous leakage

  • Peristomal skin condition

The body profile should ideally be assessed in more than one position because a bulge or hernia may change significantly between standing, sitting and lying down.

Applying SenSura® Mio Concave:

Wash and dry your hands.

Measure the stoma where required.

Select the appropriate pouch size and opening.

Prepare the opening according to the manufacturer's cutting guide if using a cut-to-fit appliance.

Gently remove the existing appliance while supporting the surrounding skin.

Clean the peristomal area according to the normal stoma-care routine.

Ensure the skin is appropriately clean and dry.

Remove the protective backing from the adhesive.

Position the centre of the appliance carefully over the stoma.

Apply pressure around the stability ring to establish secure contact around the stoma.

Then smooth the star-shaped adhesive petals outward over the curved body profile.

Ensure each petal follows the contour of the abdomen.

Check for:

  • Gaps

  • Folds

  • Creases

  • Lifted adhesive

  • Areas where the adhesive bridges over the skin rather than making contact

Apply gentle hand pressure to help establish a secure seal.

Always follow Coloplast's specific application instructions supplied with the appliance.

Changing the pouch:

Because this is a one-piece closed appliance, the complete pouch and Concave baseplate are removed together.

Change the pouch before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Wash and dry your hands.

Gently lift an edge of the adhesive.

Support the surrounding skin while slowly peeling the adhesive away.

Avoid rapidly pulling the appliance from the skin.

Dispose of the used pouch appropriately.

Clean and inspect the peristomal skin before applying the replacement appliance.

Parastomal hernias and bulges

SenSura® Mio Concave is specifically designed to fit outward curves, including those associated with parastomal hernias.

However, the appliance does not treat the underlying hernia.

Changes in:

  • Hernia size

  • Stoma shape

  • Stoma function

  • Abdominal pain

  • Appliance fit

  • Leakage frequency

may require reassessment.

A rapidly enlarging bulge, severe pain, vomiting, marked changes in stoma colour or an unexpected reduction or cessation of stoma output accompanied by symptoms of obstruction requires appropriate clinical assessment.

Reference 18135 is the Maxi Transparent 10–60mm option.

The transparent pouch provides continuous visibility of:

  • The stoma

  • Stoma output

  • Pouch contents

  • Appliance positioning

This may be useful:

  • Following surgery

  • During stoma assessment

  • When monitoring output

  • Where a carer assists with stoma care

  • Where direct visibility is preferred

Mini, Midi or Maxi?

Mini

Reference 18100 is the smallest pouch in the range.

It provides:

  • A compact pouch profile

  • Neutral Grey covering

  • Inspection window

  • 10–40mm cut-to-fit opening

Mini may be suitable where output volume is relatively low and maximum discretion is preferred.

Midi

Midi provides a balance between capacity and compactness.

Available options include:

  • 18101 – 10–40mm

  • 18110 – 10–50mm

  • 18111 – pre-cut 25mm

  • 18112 – pre-cut 30mm

Maxi

Maxi provides greater collection capacity and the widest range of opening options.

Available Neutral Grey options include:

  • 18102 – 10–40mm

  • 18120 – 10–50mm

  • 18130 – 10–60mm

  • 18122 – pre-cut 30mm

  • 18123 – pre-cut 35mm

  • 18131 – pre-cut 40mm

Transparent:

  • 18135 – 10–60mm

Cut-to-fit options

The following cutting ranges are available:

  • 10–40mm

  • 10–50mm

  • 10–60mm

Cut-to-fit pouches may be appropriate where:

  • The stoma does not correspond to a standard pre-cut diameter

  • The stoma is irregularly shaped

  • Stoma size is changing

  • An individually shaped opening is required

The opening should always remain within the manufacturer's specified cutting range.

Pre-cut options

Pre-cut openings are available in:

  • 25mm

  • 30mm

  • 35mm

  • 40mm

Pre-cut products may be convenient where the stoma has reached a stable size that corresponds closely to one of the available openings.

Choosing the correct opening

Measure the stoma carefully using an appropriate measuring guide.

The finished opening should:

  • Fit closely around the stoma

  • Avoid rubbing against it

  • Avoid constricting it

  • Minimise exposed peristomal skin

  • Follow the actual stoma shape where necessary

An opening that is too large may expose surrounding skin to stoma output and increase the risk of irritation and leakage.

An opening that is too small may rub against or constrict the stoma.

Body profile is as important as stoma size

Selecting the correct stoma opening alone does not guarantee an appropriate appliance fit.

SenSura® Mio Concave is specifically designed for an outward body profile, so selection should consider:

  • Shape of the abdomen

  • Presence of a bulge

  • Presence of a parastomal hernia

  • Shape and size of the outward curve

  • Location of the stoma on the curve

  • Changes in abdominal shape when sitting and standing

  • Previous leakage

  • Peristomal skin condition

The body profile should ideally be assessed in more than one position because a bulge or hernia may change significantly between standing, sitting and lying down.

Applying SenSura® Mio Concave:

Wash and dry your hands.

Measure the stoma where required.

Select the appropriate pouch size and opening.

Prepare the opening according to the manufacturer's cutting guide if using a cut-to-fit appliance.

Gently remove the existing appliance while supporting the surrounding skin.

Clean the peristomal area according to the normal stoma-care routine.

Ensure the skin is appropriately clean and dry.

Remove the protective backing from the adhesive.

Position the centre of the appliance carefully over the stoma.

Apply pressure around the stability ring to establish secure contact around the stoma.

Then smooth the star-shaped adhesive petals outward over the curved body profile.

Ensure each petal follows the contour of the abdomen.

Check for:

  • Gaps

  • Folds

  • Creases

  • Lifted adhesive

  • Areas where the adhesive bridges over the skin rather than making contact

Apply gentle hand pressure to help establish a secure seal.

Always follow Coloplast's specific application instructions supplied with the appliance.

Changing the pouch:

Because this is a one-piece closed appliance, the complete pouch and Concave baseplate are removed together.

Change the pouch before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Wash and dry your hands.

Gently lift an edge of the adhesive.

Support the surrounding skin while slowly peeling the adhesive away.

Avoid rapidly pulling the appliance from the skin.

Dispose of the used pouch appropriately.

Clean and inspect the peristomal skin before applying the replacement appliance.

Parastomal hernias and bulges

SenSura® Mio Concave is specifically designed to fit outward curves, including those associated with parastomal hernias.

However, the appliance does not treat the underlying hernia.

Changes in:

  • Hernia size

  • Stoma shape

  • Stoma function

  • Abdominal pain

  • Appliance fit

  • Leakage frequency

may require reassessment.

A rapidly enlarging bulge, severe pain, vomiting, marked changes in stoma colour or an unexpected reduction or cessation of stoma output accompanied by symptoms of obstruction requires appropriate clinical assessment.

Coloplast SenSura® Mio Concave 1-Piece Closed Pouches combine a curved star-shaped baseplate, stability ring, flexible fit zones, BodyFit Technology® and full-circle pre-filter in a one-piece closed colostomy appliance specifically developed for outward body profiles.

The range provides Mini, Midi and Maxi capacities, opening ranges up to 60mm, several pre-cut options and a Transparent Maxi variant.

SenSura® Mio Concave should be selected according to both the measured stoma and the surrounding abdominal profile. It is designed for outward curves rather than inward areas requiring convexity. Persistent leakage, skin irritation or changes in a bulge or parastomal hernia should be discussed with a Stoma Care Nurse.

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for use.
