Bactigras Medicated Tulle Gras Dressing is a sterile medicated wound contact dressing containing 0.5% chlorhexidine acetate. It consists of an open-weave gauze impregnated with white soft paraffin BP, helping to protect the wound while allowing exudate to pass through into an absorbent secondary dressing.
The chlorhexidine acetate provides antiseptic activity against a range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, including MRSA. Bactigras is intended for wounds where there is a risk of infection and may also be used on already infected wounds in conjunction with systemic antibacterial treatment where required.

Suitable for:
Bactigras may be used for a range of wounds where there is a risk of infection, including:
- Minor burns and scalds
- Lacerations
- Abrasions
- Other skin-loss wounds
- Donor graft sites
- Recipient graft sites
It may also be used on an already infected wound when appropriate alongside systemic antibacterial therapy.
Composition:
Bactigras consists of leno-weave gauze impregnated with white soft paraffin BP containing 0.5% chlorhexidine acetate BP.
The open-weave construction allows viscous wound exudate to pass through the dressing into an appropriate absorbent secondary dressing.
How to use:
Clean the wound using an appropriate wound-cleansing technique.
Select a dressing of the appropriate size and open the sterile pouch. Using clean gloves or forceps, remove the protective papers and place a single layer of Bactigras directly over the wound surface.
Cover Bactigras with a suitable absorbent secondary dressing and secure it appropriately.
The frequency of dressing changes should be determined by the condition of the wound and the amount of exudate. Smith+Nephew states that Bactigras may remain in place for up to four days, although actual wear time should be based on clinical assessment and wound-care requirements.
If the dressing adheres to the wound, it may be gently moistened with sterile saline to assist removal.
Important information:
Bactigras is intended for topical use only.
Do not use if you have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine. Chlorhexidine can rarely cause serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.
Bactigras should not be relied upon as the sole treatment of a clinically infected wound where systemic antibacterial treatment is required.
Do not use if the individual sterile packaging is open or damaged. For single use only.
For significant, deep, heavily infected or deteriorating wounds, burns covering a substantial area, or wounds that are not healing as expected, seek advice from a doctor, nurse or other suitably qualified healthcare professional.
