Cutimed Sorbact Pad is a sterile bacteria- and fungi-binding absorbent wound dressing for the management of superficial wounds with moderate to high levels of exudate. It combines a Sorbact DACC-coated wound contact layer with an absorbent core, allowing the dressing to bind microorganisms while simultaneously absorbing and retaining wound exudate.

Sorbact Technology works through a physical mode of action. Bacteria and fungi bind irreversibly to the hydrophobic DACC-coated surface and are removed from the wound when the dressing is changed. No active antimicrobial agent is released into the wound, and development of bacterial or fungal resistance to the binding mechanism is not expected.

Key features:

  • Binds bacteria and fungi using Sorbact Technology
  • DACC-coated wound contact layer
  • Integrated absorbent core
  • Suitable for moderate to highly exuding wounds
  • Helps reduce wound bioburden
  • Binds and removes microorganisms and endotoxins
  • Physical mode of action – does not release an active antimicrobial substance into the wound
  • Effective against a broad range of wound-related microorganisms
  • In-vitro activity demonstrated against organisms including Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and E. coli
  • No known mechanism for development of bacterial or fungal resistance
  • Suitable for clean, contaminated, colonised and infected wounds
  • Designed for superficial wounds
  • Can remain in place for up to 7 days when clinically appropriate
  • Sterile
  • Single use
  • Suitable for adults and children

Suitable for:

Cutimed Sorbact Pad is intended for superficial, moderate to highly exuding wounds, including:

  • Surgical wounds
  • Traumatic wounds
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Leg ulcers
  • Clean wounds
  • Contaminated wounds
  • Colonised wounds
  • Infected wounds

The dressing may be used as part of an appropriate infection-management strategy where wound bioburden is a concern.

Composition:

Cutimed Sorbact Pad consists of a DACC-coated Sorbact wound contact layer combined with an absorbent core.

DACC stands for dialkylcarbamoyl chloride, a highly hydrophobic substance bonded to the dressing fibres. In the moist wound environment, hydrophobic microorganisms bind to the DACC-coated surface and remain attached to the dressing until it is removed.

The dressing therefore manages microorganisms through physical binding rather than through the release of antiseptics, antibiotics or other pharmacologically active antimicrobial substances.

How to use:

Prepare and clean the wound and surrounding skin according to the recommended wound-care procedure.

Select a dressing large enough to overlap the wound margins by at least 2cm.

Do not cut Cutimed Sorbact Pad.

Remove the dressing from its sterile pouch using an aseptic technique.

Apply the dressing with the green Sorbact contact layer directly against the complete wound surface. Direct contact is important because microorganisms need to come into contact with the DACC-coated layer in order to bind to it.

Secure the dressing using an appropriate elastic bandage, fixation bandage or skin-friendly tape.

Dressing change frequency:

The frequency of dressing changes depends on:

  • Amount of wound exudate
  • Condition of the wound
  • Condition of the surrounding skin
  • Infection status
  • Overall clinical assessment

When the clinical condition allows, Cutimed Sorbact Pad may remain in place for up to 7 days.

If the dressing adheres to the wound, moisten it before removal to help minimise disruption of the healing wound surface.

Important information:

Cutimed Sorbact Pad has no known general contraindications, but it should not be used in anyone with a known hypersensitivity to any of the dressing materials.

Do not use the dressing together with fatty or oily products such as ointments, creams or lipid-containing solutions, as these may interfere with the hydrophobic binding mechanism and reduce the dressing's ability to bind microorganisms.

Do not reuse. Cutimed Sorbact Pad is intended for single use only. Reuse may increase the risk of contamination and infection.

Do not use if the sterile pouch is already open or damaged.

Do not re-sterilise.

If the wound deteriorates, does not improve, develops spreading redness, increasing pain, swelling, excessive discharge or other signs of significant infection, seek assessment from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
