UroFlush Saline is a sterile, endotoxin-free 0.9% sodium chloride irrigation solution for the rinsing of urinary catheters and bladder irrigation as part of an appropriate catheter-management protocol.

The sterile saline solution can be used to help irrigate catheters affected by pus, blood clots or debris. Unlike the citric-acid UroFlush G and UroFlush R solutions, UroFlush Saline does not dissolve or prevent catheter encrustation.

Suitable for:

• Rinsing an indwelling urinary catheter
• Bladder irrigation where 0.9% saline has been prescribed or recommended
• Catheter blockage or impaired drainage associated with debris, blood clots or pus, where saline irrigation is clinically appropriate
• Catheter maintenance according to an individual care plan or healthcare professional's instructions

UroFlush Saline is not intended to treat catheter encrustation. Where encrustation is the clinical problem, a different catheter-maintenance solution such as UroFlush G or R may be prescribed, depending on clinical requirements.

Directions:

Use according to the doctor's prescription or catheter-management protocol. The manufacturer's instructions state that frequency depends on clinical need and that the solution must never be forced into the bladder.

1. Clean or disinfect hands before use, or use appropriate gloves.
2. Open the outer packaging and remove the UroFlush bag.
3. Close the tubing using the plastic clamp.
4. Break the top of the protective sleeve and remove the complete sleeve from the connector.
5. Connect the UroFlush bag to the catheter.
6. Open the clamp and administer according to the prescribed irrigation protocol.
7. Do not force the solution into the bladder.
8. After irrigation, disconnect the UroFlush bag and reconnect the urine drainage bag or catheter valve as appropriate.

The manufacturer advises not to use the solution cold. Warm the unopened bag in lukewarm water before use if required; do not microwave it. Check the temperature against the inner wrist before administration and keep the connector dry to reduce contamination risk.

• Particular care is required during bladder irrigation in people with spinal-cord injury because of the risk of autonomic dysreflexia
• Check for potential interactions with other treatment where relevant
• Monitor the patient's condition during irrigation
• The PVC device contains DEHP; the manufacturer's instructions highlight precautions concerning prolonged exposure in certain potentially vulnerable groups

UroFlush Saline 0.9% provides a sterile normal-saline solution for catheter rinsing and bladder irrigation, particularly where flushing of debris, pus or blood clots is clinically indicated. It does not have an anti-encrustation action.
