LINC-Flo® LM500SD-L is a sterile 500ml urinary leg drainage bag with a direct inlet and lever tap, designed for discreet daytime urine collection from an indwelling or suprapubic urinary catheter or compatible urinary sheath.

The direct-inlet configuration positions the drainage bag close to the catheter connection without an extended inlet tube. This makes it particularly suitable where a close-fitting leg-bag arrangement is preferred.

The bag incorporates a lever-action drainage tap, needle-free sampling port, non-return valve and overnight drainage connector. 500ml capacity

The LINC-Flo® LM500SD-L has a 500ml collection capacity.

This is one of the most commonly used capacities for daytime catheter drainage, providing a balance between useful urine capacity and a relatively discreet profile underneath clothing.

The bag should be emptied regularly before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Allowing a leg bag to become too full can:

• Increase pulling on the catheter

• Make the bag more noticeable beneath clothing

• Increase discomfort

• Place additional strain on the leg-bag straps

• Interfere with mobility

Direct inlet

The SD designation in LM500SD-L identifies this as the direct-inlet version.

Unlike the short-, long- or adjustable-tube versions, there is no extended inlet tube between the catheter connector and the main drainage bag.

This allows the bag to sit relatively close to the catheter connection.

Lever drainage tap

LM500SD-L incorporates a lever-action drainage tap.

The tap allows the bag to be emptied repeatedly during normal use without disconnecting the bag from the catheter.

When emptying:

• Position the outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle

• Open the lever tap

• Allow the urine to drain completely

• Avoid touching the outlet against the toilet or container

• Close the lever securely afterwards

Always confirm that the outlet is fully closed before repositioning the bag beneath clothing.

Multi-chamber design

LINC-Flo® leg bags incorporate a discreet multi-chamber design.

Dividing the bag internally helps distribute urine rather than allowing all of the contents to collect in one area.

This can help:

• Keep the bag flatter against the leg

• Reduce excessive bulging

• Reduce movement of urine within the bag

• Reduce sloshing noise

• Improve discretion beneath clothing

• Improve comfort during movement

Soft fabric backing

The skin-facing surface incorporates a soft fabric backing designed to provide greater comfort between the drainage bag and the leg.

This helps reduce direct contact between the plastic drainage bag and the skin, particularly during prolonged daytime wear.

The skin beneath and around the bag should still be checked regularly for irritation, pressure marks or moisture-related problems.

Non-return valve

An integrated non-return valve helps reduce urine flowing backwards from the drainage bag towards the catheter.

The bag must nevertheless remain correctly positioned to allow gravity drainage.

The leg bag should be positioned below bladder level and the catheter connection should remain unobstructed.

Needle-free sampling port

The LINC-Flo® leg bag incorporates a needle-free sampling port.

This allows an appropriately trained healthcare professional to obtain a urine specimen from the drainage system when clinically required without puncturing the tubing with a needle.

Urine sampling should be carried out using appropriate aseptic technique and in accordance with local clinical procedures.

Urine intended for microbiological investigation should not normally be collected from urine that has been standing within the drainage bag.

Overnight drainage

LM500SD-L includes an overnight drainage connector, allowing a compatible larger-capacity night drainage bag to be connected where required.

The daytime leg bag normally remains connected to the catheter when a night bag is attached.

Maintaining the established closed urinary drainage system and avoiding unnecessary catheter disconnections helps reduce contamination.

When connecting an overnight drainage bag:

• Leave the leg bag connected to the catheter

• Connect the night drainage bag to the appropriate outlet/connector

• Open the leg-bag drainage tap where required for continuous drainage

• Position the night bag below bladder level

• Ensure both drainage pathways remain free from kinks

• Prevent the tubing becoming trapped beneath bedding

• Support the night bag appropriately

• Do not place the drainage bag directly on the floor

Always follow the instructions supplied with both drainage bags.

Leg straps

LINC-Flo® leg bags are supplied with elastic Velcro leg straps to secure the drainage bag against the leg.

The straps should be firm enough to hold the bag securely but must not restrict circulation or cause excessive pressure.

Check that:

• The bag cannot slide excessively down the leg

• The straps are not excessively tight

• The catheter is not under tension

• The bag remains below bladder level

• The outlet is easily accessible for emptying

Reposition the straps if persistent pressure marks or discomfort occur.

Directions:

Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before handling the urinary drainage system.

Remove the sterile leg bag from its packaging.

Ensure the lever drainage tap is completely closed.

Position the bag appropriately on the leg using the supplied straps.

Remove the protective cover from the catheter connector without unnecessarily touching the connection surface.

Connect the LINC-Flo® bag securely to the catheter or compatible urinary sheath according to the appropriate instructions.

Ensure the drainage bag is positioned below bladder level.

Check that there is no pulling or tension on the catheter.

Confirm that urine is able to drain freely into the bag.

Avoid disconnecting the catheter and leg bag unnecessarily.

Emptying the leg bag:

The bag should be emptied regularly and before it becomes excessively full.

Wash your hands.

Position the lever-tap outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle.

Avoid allowing the outlet to touch surrounding surfaces.

Open the lever tap.

Allow the urine to drain completely.

Close the tap securely.

Wipe the outlet if required according to the patient's catheter-care instructions.

Wash your hands after completing the procedure.

Changing the leg bag:

LINC-Flo® sterile leg drainage bags are generally intended to remain connected within a closed urinary drainage system for approximately 5–7 days, unless clinical circumstances require earlier replacement.

The bag should be changed sooner if:

• It becomes damaged

• Leakage develops

• The drainage tap no longer closes securely

• Drainage becomes obstructed

• The system becomes contaminated

• The catheter-to-bag connection becomes disconnected

• A healthcare professional advises replacement
