Active ingredient:
Each chewable tablet contains:
- Calcium Carbonate: equivalent to 1,000mg Elemental Calcium
Other ingredients:
Xylitol, Povidone, Magnesium Stearate, Sucralose, Isomalt, Orange Flavouring and Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids.
How to take:
For the prevention and treatment of calcium deficiency and as an adjunct to osteoporosis treatment:
Adults and elderly: Take 1 tablet once daily.
The tablet may be chewed or sucked.
Children may also be given one tablet daily for calcium deficiency when appropriate. Use in children should be according to the advice of a doctor or pharmacist.
When used as a phosphate binder in people receiving renal dialysis, the dose is determined individually by a doctor according to blood phosphate levels.
Important information:
Do not take Calcichew Forte if you have high calcium levels in your blood or urine, kidney stones or certain conditions associated with excessive calcium levels.
Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you have kidney problems, a history of kidney stones, are taking vitamin D or additional calcium supplements, or are being treated with cardiac glycosides or diuretics.
Calcium can reduce the absorption of several medicines:
- Levothyroxine should be taken at least 4 hours apart
- Tetracycline antibiotics should be taken at least 2 hours before or 4–6 hours after calcium
- Quinolone antibiotics should be taken at least 2 hours apart
- Bisphosphonates should be taken at least 3 hours before Calcichew Forte
- Iron and zinc supplements should be taken at least 2 hours apart
Possible side effects include constipation, indigestion, wind, nausea, abdominal discomfort or diarrhoea.
Contains isomalt and should not be taken by people with rare hereditary fructose intolerance.
Calcichew Forte can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding when required, but total daily calcium intake during pregnancy should not exceed 2,500mg.
Store below 30°C and keep the container tightly closed to protect from moisture.
