Aciclovir 5% Cream is an antiviral treatment for cold sores affecting the lips and face. It contains Aciclovir 5% w/w, which works against the herpes simplex virus responsible for cold sores by helping prevent the virus from multiplying.
Treatment is most effective when started as soon as possible, ideally at the first signs of a cold sore such as tingling, itching, redness or burning, although treatment can also be started once a blister has appeared.

Directions:
Apply a thin layer to the affected area and immediately surrounding skin 5 times daily, at approximately 4-hour intervals during the day, omitting the night-time application.
Wash your hands before and after applying the cream to help avoid spreading the infection.
Start treatment as soon as possible, preferably when the first tingling, itching, redness or burning sensation develops.
Continue treatment for 4 days.
If healing has not occurred after 4 days, treatment may be continued for up to a maximum of 10 days.
If the cold sore is still present after 10 days, stop treatment and consult a doctor.

People who are immunocompromised should seek medical advice before treating a cold sore
