How this service works

We offer assessment and treatment for impetigo (a common skin infection) through the NHS service Pharmacy First.

NHS Pharmacy First: Children and adults (ages 1 year and over) 

Patients aged 1 year and over may be eligible for assessment and treatment for impetigo under the NHS Pharmacy First service.

Treatment will be supplied in line with NHS guidance.

What to expect from your consultation

  • A clinical assessment will be carried out
  • The affected skin will be reviewed
  • Red-flag symptoms will be checked
  • Treatment will only be provided if clinically appropriate
  • Advice on hygiene and preventing spread will be given
  • If the condition is not suitable for pharmacy treatment, we will refer you to your GP or urgent care.

Important information

  • Impetigo is usually mild but can be contagious
  • Good hygiene helps prevent spreading the infection
  • Some cases do not require oral antibiotics
