How this service works

Many minor conditions can be managed with over-the-counter (OTC) treatments.
Our service focuses on clinical assessment by a pharmacist independent prescriber to determine the most appropriate treatment, which may include:

  • Advice and reassurance
  • OTC treatment recommendations
  • A short course of prescription-only medicine, only when clinically appropriate
  • Prescription medicines are not supplied automatically and are only provided following a clinical assessment.

Why a pharmacist prescriber may be helpful

A pharmacist prescriber can:

  • Assess whether symptoms are suitable for self-care
  • Identify red-flag symptoms
  • Consider medical history and interactions
  • Prescribe where OTC treatment is unsuitable, ineffective, or inappropriate
  • Refer to a GP or urgent care when needed

We can help with the following conditions:
