How this service works

We offer assessment and treatment for sinus infections through two routes, depending on age and eligibility.

Teenagers and adults (ages 12 years and over) – NHS Pharmacy First

  • Patients aged 12 years and over may be eligible for assessment and treatment for a sinus infection under the NHS Pharmacy First service, provided they meet the NHS clinical criteria.
  • If eligible, treatment will be supplied in line with NHS guidance.

Children (under 12 years) – Private Pharmacist Prescribing

  • Sinus infections in children under 12 years of age are not covered under Pharmacy First. However, our pharmacist independent prescriber can assess your child and, where appropriate, provide treatment through a private consultation.
  • A private consultation fee applies, and treatment is only provided following a clinical assessment.

What to expect from your consultation

Regardless of the route:

  • A clinical assessment will be carried out
  • Symptoms will be reviewed
  • Red-flag symptoms will be checked
  • Treatment will only be provided if clinically appropriate
  • Advice on symptom relief and safety-netting will be given
  • If the condition is not suitable for pharmacy treatment, we will refer you to your GP or urgent care.

Important information

  • Many sinus infections are viral and improve without antibiotics
  • Facial pain, congestion, and pressure are common symptoms
  • Worsening symptoms or high fever may require further assessment
