How it works:
A healthy vagina normally has an acidic environment supported by beneficial bacteria, particularly Lactobacillus species.
Bacterial Vaginosis can occur when this natural bacterial balance is disrupted and the vaginal pH increases.
Typical BV symptoms can include:
- Fishy or unpleasant vaginal odour
- Thin or watery discharge
- Greyish-white discharge
- Vaginal discomfort
- Symptoms becoming more noticeable after sex or during menstruation
Canesbalance provides a triple-action approach:
- Lactic acid helps restore the vagina's naturally acidic pH
- Glycogen provides nutrients that support beneficial Lactobacillus bacteria
- The acidic environment helps restrict the growth of bacteria associated with BV
The formulation has a pH of approximately 3.8.
Ingredients:
- Lactic Acid
- Glycogen
- Propylene Glycol
- Methylhydroxypropyl Cellulose
- Sodium Lactate
- Water
pH: approximately 3.8
Contains no preservatives.
How to use:
For the treatment of BV symptoms:
- Use 1 × 5ml applicator once daily
- Continue for 7 consecutive days
- Preferably apply at bedtime
Application instructions:
- Wash your hands thoroughly before use.
- Twist off the end tab of one applicator.
- Sit or lie in a comfortable position.
- Gently insert the neck of the applicator into the vagina as far as is comfortable.
- Squeeze the applicator to release the gel.
- Remove the applicator while continuing to squeeze.
- Dispose of the applicator after use.
- Wash your hands after application.
Each applicator is designed for single use only.
Complete the full 7-day course, even if symptoms improve sooner.
Some leakage can occur after application. Using the product at bedtime can help reduce leakage, and a panty liner may be useful.
Leakage does not mean that the treatment has not worked.

Do not use:
- If you are allergic or sensitive to any of the ingredients
- If the applicator end tab is already broken

Pregnancy:
Canesbalance can be used during pregnancy.
However, if you are pregnant and think you have a vaginal infection, consult your doctor or midwife before treatment so that the cause of the symptoms can be properly assessed.
Possible temporary stinging:
Some people may experience temporary stinging or irritation after application because of the acidic formulation.
This should normally settle.
If stinging is severe, persistent or concerning, discontinue use and seek medical advice.
BV versus thrush:
Canesbalance is intended for Bacterial Vaginosis and is not an antifungal treatment for vaginal thrush.
BV is more commonly associated with:
- Fishy or unpleasant vaginal odour

- Greyish-white discharge
- Usually little or no significant itching
Thrush is more commonly associated with:
- Significant vaginal or vulval itching
- Soreness or irritation
- Thick, white discharge
- Usually little or no strong odour
If you are unsure whether the symptoms are due to BV, thrush or another condition, speak to a pharmacist, GP or sexual health professional.

- This is the first time you have experienced symptoms suggestive of BV and you are unsure of the diagnosis
- Symptoms worsen
