Coloplast Luja™ Female is a ready-to-use female intermittent urinary catheter featuring Micro-hole Zone Technology, designed to support more complete bladder emptying in one continuous flow without the need to repeatedly reposition the catheter.

Unlike conventional intermittent catheters that generally use two larger drainage eyelets near the tip, Luja Female incorporates a Micro-hole Zone with more than 50 micro-holes distributed around the catheter drainage area.

This design is intended to reduce sudden flow stops and bladder-wall suction during emptying, allowing urine to continue draining until the bladder is more completely emptied.

Luja Female also incorporates Coloplast's Triple Action Coating Technology™, a smooth hydrophilic coating designed to stay bonded, smooth and hydrated throughout catheterisation.

What is Luja Female used for?

Luja Female is designed for intermittent urinary catheterisation in women.

Intermittent catheterisation involves temporarily inserting a catheter through the urethra into the bladder to drain urine.

Once the bladder has emptied, the catheter is removed and discarded.

It may be used as part of short-term or long-term bladder management where intermittent catheterisation has been recommended by an appropriate healthcare professional.

Micro-hole Zone Technology

The defining feature of Luja Female is Coloplast's Micro-hole Zone Technology.

Conventional intermittent catheters typically drain urine through a small number of relatively large drainage eyelets.

As the bladder empties, bladder tissue can be drawn towards these openings, which may interrupt urine flow before the bladder is completely empty.

This can mean the catheter needs to be:

to restart urine drainage.

Luja Female takes a different approach.

Coloplast describes Luja Female as providing one free flow.

The Micro-hole Zone is designed so that urine continues to drain until the bladder is emptied, with fewer interruptions caused by bladder-wall suction.

In clinical testing cited by Coloplast, Luja Female achieved:

• No flow stops during 87% of catheterisations

• Less than 10ml residual urine at the first flow stop in 83% of catheterisations

Reduced need for repositioning

With a conventional eyelet catheter, users may be taught to gradually withdraw or reposition the catheter during the final stages of bladder drainage.

Luja Female is designed to reduce this requirement.

How to use Luja Female

Always follow Coloplast's Instructions for Use and the catheterisation technique taught by your healthcare professional.

In general:

1. Wash and dry your hands.

2. Check that the individual catheter package is intact.

3. Open the Luja Female container according to the manufacturer's instructions.

4. Position yourself comfortably for catheterisation.

5. Separate the labia and locate the urethral opening.

6. Hold the catheter using the handle.

7. Gently insert the catheter into the urethra.

8. Continue inserting until urine begins to flow.

9. Allow urine to drain freely.

10. Luja's Micro-hole Zone is designed to allow drainage to continue until the bladder is emptied without repeatedly repositioning the catheter.

11. Once urine flow has stopped, gently withdraw the catheter.

12. Return the catheter to its container if required for discreet disposal.

13. Dispose of the catheter appropriately.

Do not reuse the catheter.

Each Luja Female catheter is designed for one catheterisation only.

After use:
