Relactagel Lactate Vaginal Gel is a clinically proven vaginal pH correction gel for the treatment and prevention of Bacterial Vaginosis (BV). It helps relieve common BV symptoms including unpleasant vaginal odour and abnormal discharge, while helping restore and maintain the vagina's naturally acidic environment.

Relactagel contains lactic acid and glycogen. Lactic acid helps restore the natural vaginal pH, creating an environment favourable to beneficial Lactobacillus bacteria, while glycogen provides nutrients that support the growth of lactic acid-producing bacteria.

Each pack contains 7 hygienic single-use 5ml pre-filled applicators, providing a complete 7-day treatment course.

How it works:

A healthy vagina normally has an acidic environment which supports beneficial bacteria, particularly Lactobacillus species.

Bacterial Vaginosis occurs when the natural balance of vaginal bacteria is disrupted and the vaginal pH becomes less acidic.

Typical symptoms may include:

• Thin or watery vaginal discharge
• Greyish-white discharge
• Strong or fishy vaginal odour
• Changes in the amount or consistency of vaginal discharge

Relactagel contains lactic acid, which helps restore and maintain the natural acidity of the vagina.

It also contains glycogen, which provides nutrients for naturally occurring lactic acid-producing bacteria and helps support restoration of the normal vaginal flora.

Ingredients:

• Lactic Acid

• Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose

Contains no preservatives.

Allergy information:

The glycogen in Relactagel is derived from maize.

Do not use Relactagel if you have a known maize allergy or are sensitive to any of the other ingredients.

Always check the current packaging before use if you have known allergies or sensitivities.

How to use:

For treatment of Bacterial Vaginosis:

• Use 1 × 5ml applicator once daily
• Continue for 7 consecutive days
• Apply preferably at bedtime

Application instructions:

1. Wash your hands before use.
2. Remove one single-use applicator from its wrapper.
3. Break and remove the cap from the applicator.
4. Insert the entire neck of the applicator gently into the vagina.
5. Squeeze the applicator to release the gel.
6. Maintain pressure while withdrawing the applicator.
7. Dispose of the applicator after use.
8. Wash your hands.

Each tube is intended for single use only.

Do not reuse an applicator, as this may increase the risk of infection.

Using Relactagel at bedtime while lying down helps minimise leakage.

A panty liner may be useful if minor leakage occurs.

For prevention of recurrent BV:

To help prevent recurrent Bacterial Vaginosis:

• Use 1 × 5ml applicator daily
• For 2–3 days after your period
• Preferably apply at bedtime

This preventative course may be repeated after menstruation where required.

If you experience 3 or more episodes of BV within one year, consult a doctor or other healthcare professional.

Important information:

Relactagel is for vaginal use only.

Do not swallow.

Do not use:

• If you are allergic to maize
• If you are allergic or sensitive to another ingredient
• If the applicator or packaging is damaged
• After the expiry date
• If you are trying to conceive

Trying to conceive:

Relactagel should be avoided when trying to become pregnant because its acidic vaginal environment may adversely affect sperm.

Relactagel is not a contraceptive.

It does not protect against:

• Pregnancy
• Sexually transmitted infections

Pregnancy:

Relactagel is considered safe to use during pregnancy.

However, if you develop symptoms of a vaginal infection while pregnant, consult your doctor, midwife or obstetrician before treatment so that the cause can be appropriately assessed.

Possible irritation:

Relactagel may occasionally cause burning or mild irritation, particularly:

• When a fungal infection such as thrush is present
• If there are small cracks, tears or irritated areas in the vaginal tissue

If burning or irritation is severe or persistent, stop using the product and seek medical advice.

BV versus thrush:

Relactagel is intended for Bacterial Vaginosis and is not an antifungal treatment for vaginal thrush.

BV is commonly associated with:

• Fishy or unpleasant vaginal odour
• Thin or watery vaginal discharge
• Greyish-white discharge
• Usually little or no significant itching

Thrush is more commonly associated with:

• Significant itching
• Burning or soreness
• Thick, white discharge
• Usually little or no strong odour

If you are unsure whether your symptoms are caused by BV, thrush or another vaginal condition, seek advice from a pharmacist, GP or sexual health professional.

Seek medical advice if:

• This is the first time you have experienced unusual vaginal symptoms and you are unsure of the cause
• Symptoms are severe
• Symptoms do not improve after completing the treatment
• Symptoms repeatedly return
• You have 3 or more episodes of BV within one year
• You have unexplained vaginal bleeding
• You have pelvic or lower abdominal pain
• You have fever or feel generally unwell
• You have pain when passing urine
• You are pregnant
• You may have been exposed to a sexually transmitted infection

Storage:

• Store between 2°C and 25°C
• Keep out of the sight and reach of children
• Keep each applicator sealed until required
• Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging
• Do not use a damaged applicator
