Vagisil Range

Vagisil is a range of intimate care products designed for the cleansing, soothing, moisturising and protection of the external intimate and vulval area, together with selected products for vaginal dryness, Bacterial Vaginosis and external intimate itching.

The range includes pH-balanced intimate washes, soothing creams, hydrating gels, wipes, powder, freshness products and targeted treatments. Different Vagisil products have different purposes, so always follow the instructions supplied with the individual product.

Vagisil Bacterial Vaginosis Gel – 7 × 5ml

A vaginal gel for the treatment of symptoms associated with Bacterial Vaginosis (BV).

• Helps restore normal vaginal pH
• Supports beneficial vaginal bacteria

Use:

• 1 × 5ml tube daily
• For 7 consecutive days
• Preferably at bedtime

Vagisil Ultra Fresh Intimate Powder – 100g

A talc-free moisture-absorbing intimate powder designed to help control moisture and odour.

• Provides a moisture barrier for delicate external skin

Apply after bathing or showering or as required during the day.

Do not apply internally.

Vagisil Medicated Creme – 30g

A licensed GSL medicine containing Lidocaine 2% w/w for the temporary relief of minor external intimate itching and irritation.

It can help relieve external itching or irritation associated with:

• Thrush
• Perspiration
• Detergents
• Deodorants
• Tight clothing
• Other minor external irritation

Active ingredient:

• Lidocaine 2% w/w

Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic that temporarily numbs irritated skin and reduces the sensation of itching.

For adults and children aged 12 years and over:

• Apply to the affected external area
• Repeat as required 3–4 times daily
• Use for up to 1 week

For external use on the skin around the vagina and anus only.

Important: Vagisil Medicated Creme may relieve the external itching associated with thrush but does not treat the underlying Candida infection.

If symptoms persist for more than one week, seek medical advice.

Vagisil Scentsitive Scents Range

The UK Vagisil range also includes fragranced intimate-care products designed to provide freshness while using skin-friendly fragrances.

Current products include:

These products are intended primarily for cleansing and freshness rather than treatment of vaginal infections.

Important information:

Not all Vagisil products are used in the same way.

Most Vagisil washes, creams, wipes, powders and freshness products are intended for the external intimate or vulval area only.

Do not use an external product inside the vagina unless the individual product specifically states that it is intended for internal vaginal use.

Products specifically designed for internal vaginal use include:

• Vagisil ProHydrate Internal Hydrating Gel
• Vagisil Bacterial Vaginosis Gel

The vagina is naturally self-cleaning and routine internal washing or vaginal douching is not recommended.

Most Vagisil cleansing products are not medicines and do not treat vaginal infections.

They do not treat:

• Vaginal thrush
• Sexually transmitted infections
• Urinary tract infections

The exception within the range is Vagisil Medicated Creme, which is a licensed medicine containing lidocaine for symptomatic relief of external itching and irritation. It still does not treat the underlying cause of vaginal thrush.

Vagisil Bacterial Vaginosis Gel is specifically designed for symptoms associated with BV.

When to seek medical advice:

Speak to a pharmacist, GP or sexual health professional if you experience:

• Persistent or severe vaginal or vulval itching
• Unusual vaginal discharge
• Strong or persistent vaginal odour
• Vaginal bleeding
• Pelvic or lower abdominal pain
• Pain when passing urine
• Genital sores or ulcers
• Fever or feeling generally unwell
• Symptoms that repeatedly return
• Possible exposure to a sexually transmitted infection

Stop using an individual Vagisil product if it causes persistent burning, redness, irritation or an allergic reaction.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Directions differ between products.

If pregnant or breastfeeding, check the individual product information before using an internal vaginal product or medicated product and seek advice from a pharmacist, midwife or doctor where appropriate.
