RENASYS Adhesive Gel Patch is a flexible double-sided silicone adhesive hydrogel patch designed to support Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) by helping create and maintain an effective adhesive seal around difficult anatomical areas, drainage tubing and existing RENASYS dressings.

The patch can be cut and shaped to fit individual requirements and is particularly useful where normal adhesive film may be difficult to seal securely, such as around toes, drains, skin folds or the sacral area.

Key features:

  • Accessory for Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT)
  • Designed to help improve and maintain the dressing seal
  • Made from double-sided silicone adhesive hydrogel
  • Highly conformable and flexible
  • Can be cut and shaped to size
  • Helps seal difficult anatomical areas
  • Can assist with fixation of drainage tubing
  • Can help lift and secure drains or tubing away from the skin
  • Useful where standard transparent film alone may be difficult to seal
  • Suitable for use with existing RENASYS NPWT dressing systems
  • Can be used around irregular body contours
  • Gentle adhesive characteristics may help reduce skin trauma during removal
  • For use on intact skin only
  • Sterile
  • Single use
  • Medical device
  • Supplied as 10 individually packaged patches

Typical applications include:

RENASYS Adhesive Gel Patch may be useful when creating an NPWT seal around:

  • Drainage tubing
  • Drains
  • Skin folds
  • Irregular anatomical contours
  • Toe wounds
  • Sacral wounds
  • Difficult dressing edges
  • Areas where standard transparent film has difficulty maintaining an airtight seal

It can also be used to support existing RENASYS dressings where additional sealing is required.

How it works:

Effective Negative Pressure Wound Therapy depends on maintaining a sufficiently airtight dressing seal.

An air leak can interfere with:

  • Delivery of the prescribed negative pressure
  • Effective removal of wound exudate
  • Pump performance
  • Alarm function
  • Overall continuity of therapy

RENASYS Adhesive Gel Patch provides a soft, conformable hydrogel sealing surface that can fill small gaps or irregularities around the dressing, tubing or surrounding anatomy.

Its adhesive surfaces help the patch bond with both the intact skin and the overlying NPWT dressing material.

How to use:

RENASYS Adhesive Gel Patch should be used by an appropriately trained healthcare professional, or according to instructions provided as part of an established NPWT treatment plan.

In general:

  1. Ensure the surrounding skin is clean, dry and intact.
  2. Select the area requiring additional sealing or tubing fixation.
  3. Cut the gel patch to the required size or shape if necessary.
  4. Remove the protective backing as directed.
  5. Apply the adhesive gel patch to the intact skin around the difficult-to-seal area.
  6. Position around tubing, drains, skin folds or dressing edges as required.
  7. Apply the RENASYS transparent film or other appropriate dressing component over the area according to the NPWT dressing instructions.
  8. Smooth the dressing carefully to achieve an effective seal.
  9. Start or resume NPWT.
  10. Check that the dressing is appropriately compressed and that the pump is maintaining the prescribed negative pressure.

Always follow the current RENASYS dressing and therapy-system Instructions for Use.

Use around drainage tubing:

The adhesive gel patch can be shaped around a drain or tube to:

  • Help secure the tubing
  • Improve the seal where the tubing exits the dressing
  • Reduce gaps around irregular surfaces
  • Help keep tubing appropriately positioned away from the patient's skin

Avoid excessive tension on the drain or tubing.

Important information:

RENASYS Adhesive Gel Patch is an accessory to an NPWT dressing system.

It does not provide negative-pressure therapy when used independently.

For use on intact skin only.

Do not place the gel patch:

  • Directly into an open wound
  • Directly onto exposed tissue
  • Over exposed blood vessels
  • Over exposed organs or nerves
  • On significantly damaged or compromised skin unless specifically permitted by the manufacturer's instructions and clinical assessment

Do not use if:

  • The sterile packaging is damaged or opened
  • The patch is damaged
  • The patch is contaminated
  • The product is beyond its expiry date

Single use only.

Do not:

  • Reuse
  • Re-sterilise
  • Transfer a used patch between patients

Skin monitoring:

Regularly inspect the surrounding skin during NPWT.

Seek clinical review if there is:

  • Increasing redness
  • Blistering
  • Maceration
  • Significant pain
  • Skin breakdown
  • Persistent irritation
  • Allergic-type reaction

The patch should not be used as a substitute for appropriate management of damaged or fragile periwound skin.

Leak monitoring:

If the NPWT system indicates an air leak or is unable to achieve the prescribed pressure:

  • Check the dressing edges
  • Check around tubing and drains
  • Check skin folds and irregular contours
  • Check the Soft Port seal
  • Check all tubing connections
  • Apply additional appropriate sealing material where clinically indicated

The Adhesive Gel Patch can be useful where the source of leakage is caused by an irregular surface or difficult anatomical contour.
