Renasys F With Soft Port Dressing Kits

RENASYS-F with Soft Port Dressing Kits are sterile foam dressing kits for use with RENASYS Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) systems in the management of a range of acute and chronic wounds.

The open-cell foam can be cut to the size and shape of the wound and works with a compatible RENASYS NPWT pump to distribute negative pressure across the wound bed, helping remove wound exudate and other fluids. The RENASYS Soft Port provides a flexible connection between the dressing and therapy unit and is designed to conform to different body contours.

RENASYS Soft Port:

The Soft Port provides the connection between the sealed wound dressing and the RENASYS negative-pressure therapy system.

It features:

• Flexible tubing
• Low-profile applicator
• Compression-resistant design
• Resistance to blockages caused by kinking, twisting or compression
• Ability to conform to areas such as:
  • Heels
  • Knees
  • Elbows
  • Hips
  • Other difficult body contours

The Soft Port may help reduce the need for more complicated bridging techniques in appropriate wounds.

How it is used:

RENASYS-F Dressing Kits should be applied by an appropriately trained healthcare professional as part of a prescribed NPWT treatment plan.

In general:

1. The wound is assessed and prepared according to local wound-care protocols.
2. The foam is cut to fit the wound dimensions.
3. Foam is positioned in the wound as instructed in the manufacturer's application guidance.
4. Transparent film is applied to create an airtight seal.
5. An opening is created in the film at the appropriate position.
6. The RENASYS Soft Port is applied over the opening.
7. The Soft Port tubing is connected to the compatible RENASYS NPWT system.
8. Therapy settings are selected according to the patient's prescribed treatment plan.
9. The dressing and system are checked to ensure that the required negative pressure is being maintained.

The negative-pressure setting, dressing-change frequency and duration of therapy must be determined by the treating healthcare professional.

Important information:

RENASYS-F Dressing Kits are designed for use as part of a RENASYS Negative Pressure Wound Therapy system.

They cannot provide negative-pressure therapy when used independently.

NPWT should only be initiated and monitored by healthcare professionals appropriately trained in wound management and negative-pressure therapy.

Do not use RENASYS NPWT in the presence of:

• Untreated osteomyelitis
• Exposed arteries or veins
• Exposed organs
• Exposed nerves
• Necrotic tissue with eschar present
• Malignancy within the wound, except where specifically used for appropriate palliative management
• Non-enteric and unexplored fistulas
• Exposed anastomotic sites

Necrotic tissue or eschar should be appropriately managed before NPWT is considered.

Bleeding warning:

Bleeding is an important potential complication of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy.

Patients should be carefully monitored for bleeding, particularly those:

• With fragile blood vessels
• With vascular grafts
• Receiving anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines
• With impaired clotting
• Following recent surgical procedures
• Where haemostasis has not been securely achieved

Excessive bleeding during NPWT can result in serious injury and requires urgent medical assessment.

If sudden or significant bleeding occurs, therapy should be managed immediately according to the healthcare professional's NPWT protocol.

Infection:

NPWT does not replace appropriate treatment of wound infection.

Patients with infected or potentially infected wounds require appropriate clinical assessment and treatment.

Monitor for signs of infection including:

• Increasing redness or swelling
• Increasing pain
• Purulent discharge
• Unpleasant odour
• Fever
• Deterioration of the wound

Seek urgent clinical review if infection or sepsis is suspected.

Important dressing precautions:

• Do not place foam directly over exposed blood vessels, organs, nerves or unprotected anastomotic sites.
• Ensure all pieces of foam placed into the wound are accounted for and removed at dressing changes.
• Do not leave fragments of foam in the wound.
• Do not use if the sterile packaging is damaged or opened.
• Do not re-use.
• Do not re-sterilise.
• Follow the manufacturer's Instructions for Use and local NPWT protocols.
