Urgostart Plus Pad

UrgoStart Plus Pad is a sterile, soft-adherent wound dressing containing poly-absorbent fibres and Urgo Medical's TLC-NOSF healing matrix, designed for the management of low to moderately exuding wounds at risk of delayed healing.

The poly-absorbent fibres help trap and retain exudate, slough and wound debris, while the TLC-NOSF healing matrix helps reduce excess matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and supports a wound environment favourable to healing.

UrgoStart Plus Pad can be used throughout the different stages of wound healing, including sloughy, granulating and epithelialising wounds.

TLC-NOSF Healing Matrix:

UrgoStart Plus Pad incorporates Urgo Medical's TLC-NOSF technology.

TLC-NOSF combines Technology Lipido-Colloid with Nano-OligoSaccharide Factor (NOSF).

In chronic and hard-to-heal wounds, excessive levels of matrix metalloproteinases can interfere with normal tissue repair.

The TLC-NOSF healing matrix helps reduce excess MMP activity and supports a wound environment more favourable to healing.

It also:

• Helps maintain a moist wound environment
• Supports wound healing
• Helps allow gentle, atraumatic dressing removal

Poly-absorbent fibres:

The dressing contains poly-absorbent fibres which help:

• Absorb wound exudate
• Trap slough
• Retain wound debris within the dressing
• Support continuous cleansing of the wound bed

This allows UrgoStart Plus Pad to be used through several stages of the wound-healing process.

Suitable wound types include:

UrgoStart Plus Pad is indicated for low to moderately exuding wounds including:

• Leg ulcers
• Venous leg ulcers
• Diabetic foot ulcers
• Pressure injuries / pressure ulcers
• Other wounds considered at risk of delayed or prolonged healing

It can be used during:

• Sloughy stages
• Granulation
• Epithelialisation

The underlying cause of the wound must also be appropriately managed.

For example, compression therapy may be required as part of the management of an appropriate venous leg ulcer.

How to use:

UrgoStart Plus Pad should be applied by, or according to the instructions of, an appropriately trained healthcare professional.

Before application:

1. Wash or disinfect hands and use appropriate clinical gloves.
2. Prepare and cleanse the wound according to the prescribed wound-care protocol.
3. Debride the wound where clinically indicated.
4. Gently dry the surrounding skin.
5. Check that the sterile pouch is intact before opening.

To apply:

1. Open the sterile pouch without touching the wound-contact surface.
2. Select an appropriate dressing size.
3. If necessary, cut the dressing to the required shape using sterile scissors.
4. Remove the protective tabs.
5. Apply UrgoStart Plus Pad directly to the wound.
6. Cover and secure with an appropriate secondary dressing, tape, bandage or tubular retention system.
7. For highly exuding wounds, use an additional absorbent or superabsorbent secondary dressing.

Choose the secondary dressing according to the:

• Wound location
• Exudate level
• Condition of the surrounding skin
• Overall wound-management plan

Dressing changes:

During the initial sloughy or wound-cleansing phase, the manufacturer recommends changing UrgoStart Plus Pad approximately:

• Every 1–2 days

As the wound progresses, dressing-change frequency can be adjusted according to:

• Exudate level
• Condition of the wound
• Clinical progress
• Condition of the surrounding skin

A single dressing may remain in place for up to 7 days where clinically appropriate.

Change earlier if:

• The dressing becomes saturated
• Exudate leaks through the secondary dressing
• The dressing becomes displaced
• The wound requires reassessment
• There are signs of infection or deterioration

Treatment may be continued until complete wound healing where clinically appropriate.

Important information:

Do not use UrgoStart Plus Pad on:

• Malignant wounds
• Fistula wounds
• Wounds on mucous membranes
• Epidermolysis bullosa wounds
• Necrotic wounds covered with dry black eschar
• Heavily haemorrhaging wounds

UrgoStart Plus Pad may help manage minor bleeding, but it must not be used as a surgical haemostatic sponge.

Do not use in patients with a known hypersensitivity to:

• TLC dressings
• TLC-NOSF dressings
• Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC)

Do not use if the sterile packaging is damaged or previously opened.

Do not:

• Reuse
• Re-sterilise
• Use beyond the expiry date

Infection:

UrgoStart Plus Pad does not replace appropriate treatment of wound infection.

If there are signs of infection, the wound should be clinically assessed and managed according to the appropriate local wound-infection protocol.

Signs requiring assessment may include:

• Increasing redness
• Swelling
• Increasing pain
• Purulent discharge
• Increasing or offensive odour
• Fever
• Deterioration or enlargement of the wound
