RENASYS-G with Soft Port Dressing Kits are gauze-based dressing kits for use with RENASYS Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) systems in the management of suitable acute and chronic wounds.

The kits contain an antimicrobial-impregnated gauze wound filler, transparent film and a flexible RENASYS Soft Port, together with additional wound-preparation components. The gauze conforms closely to irregular wound contours and provides an alternative to foam-based NPWT dressings.

How RENASYS-G works:

The antimicrobial gauze is placed into the wound and covered with an airtight transparent film.

The RENASYS Soft Port is positioned over an opening made in the transparent film and connected to a compatible RENASYS NPWT pump.

The prescribed negative pressure:

• Draws wound exudate away from the wound
• Helps remove excess fluid
• Helps maintain a controlled wound environment
• Supports wound contraction and granulation where clinically appropriate
• Transfers exudate through the tubing into the collection canister

The antimicrobial gauze provides a conformable wound filler while the Soft Port transfers the negative pressure from the therapy unit to the wound.

How to apply:

RENASYS-G Dressing Kits should be applied by an appropriately trained healthcare professional according to the manufacturer's Instructions for Use and the patient's NPWT treatment plan.

In general:

1. Assess and prepare the wound according to local wound-care protocol.
2. Clean the wound as clinically appropriate.
3. Protect sensitive structures with the supplied non-adherent contact layer where required.
4. Moisten the antimicrobial gauze with the supplied saline according to the application instructions.
5. Gently place the gauze into the wound cavity.
6. Ensure the gauze contacts the wound surfaces without excessive packing or compression.
7. Record the number of pieces of gauze placed into the wound.
8. Cover the wound completely with RENASYS Transparent Film to create an airtight seal.
9. Create the required opening in the transparent film over the wound filler.
10. Position the RENASYS Soft Port over the opening.
11. Connect the Soft Port to the compatible RENASYS canister and NPWT system.
12. Start therapy at the pressure prescribed by the treating healthcare professional.
13. Confirm that the dressing is sealed and that negative pressure is being maintained.

Important gauze-counting precaution:

Every piece of gauze placed into the wound must be accounted for and removed at each dressing change.

Do not leave gauze fragments in the wound.

Documenting the number of gauze pieces used is particularly important in deep, undermined or complex wounds.

RENASYS Soft Port:

The Soft Port provides the connection between the sealed dressing and the NPWT system.

Its design features:

• Soft, flexible tubing
• Compression-resistant construction
• Low-profile connection
• Resistance to kinking and twisting
• Conformability around awkward anatomical areas such as:
  • Heels
  • Knees
  • Elbows
  • Hips

The Soft Port may reduce the need for complicated bridging techniques in appropriate wounds.

Dressing changes:

The frequency of dressing changes must be determined according to:

• Wound condition
• Level and type of exudate
• Presence or risk of infection
• Integrity of the dressing seal
• Patient condition
• Clinical judgement

Infected wounds or wounds producing heavy or problematic exudate may require more frequent dressing changes.

Do not leave a RENASYS dressing in place beyond the interval specified in the current Instructions for Use or the patient's prescribed wound-care plan.

Important information:

RENASYS-G Dressing Kits are intended for use as part of a RENASYS Negative Pressure Wound Therapy system.

They do not provide negative-pressure therapy when used independently.

NPWT must be prescribed and monitored by an appropriately trained healthcare professional.

Do not use RENASYS NPWT in the presence of:

• Untreated osteomyelitis
• Necrotic tissue with eschar present
• Exposed arteries or veins
• Exposed organs
• Exposed nerves
• Exposed anastomotic sites
• Non-enteric and unexplored fistulas
• Malignancy within the wound, except where specifically considered appropriate for palliative treatment

Necrotic tissue and eschar should be appropriately debrided before NPWT is considered.

Do not place the gauze dressing directly against unprotected:

• Blood vessels
• Organs
• Nerves
• Anastomotic sites
• Other vulnerable structures

Use an appropriate non-adherent protective interface where clinically indicated.

Bleeding warning:

Excessive bleeding is a potentially serious and life-threatening complication of NPWT.

Particular care is required in patients:

• At increased risk of bleeding
• Taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines
• With vascular grafts
• With fragile blood vessels
• Following recent surgery
• Where haemostasis may not be secure

Regularly inspect:

• The Soft Port
• Tubing
• Canister
• Wound dressing

for evidence of blood.

If sudden or significant bleeding occurs, manage therapy immediately according to the patient's NPWT emergency plan and obtain urgent medical assessment.

Infection:

NPWT does not replace appropriate treatment of wound infection.

Monitor for:

• Increasing redness
• Increasing swelling
• Increasing pain
• Purulent discharge
• Offensive odour
• Fever
• Deterioration of the wound

Seek clinical review if infection or sepsis is suspected.

Single-use information:

RENASYS-G dressing components are intended for single use.

Do not:

• Reuse the wound filler
• Reuse the Soft Port
• Re-sterilise components
• Use components if sterile packaging is damaged
• Modify the dressing components
• Mix incompatible NPWT components
