Urgostart Border

UrgoStart Border is a sterile, adhesive foam wound dressing containing Urgo Medical's TLC-NOSF Healing Matrix, designed for the management of moderately to heavily exuding chronic and hard-to-heal wounds.

The dressing combines a soft-adherent TLC-NOSF wound-contact layer with an absorbent polyurethane foam pad and a protective outer film with a silicone adhesive border. It absorbs and retains wound exudate while maintaining a moist environment favourable to wound healing.

UrgoStart Border is particularly suitable for granulating and epithelialising wounds, including leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers and pressure ulcers.

TLC-NOSF Healing Matrix:

UrgoStart Border contains Urgo Medical's TLC-NOSF technology.

TLC-NOSF combines Technology Lipido-Colloid with Nano-OligoSaccharide Factor (NOSF).

Chronic wounds can contain excessive levels of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). These enzymes can break down proteins involved in tissue repair and contribute to delayed wound healing.

The TLC-NOSF Healing Matrix helps reduce excess MMP activity and restore a wound environment more favourable to healing.

The lipido-colloid wound-contact layer also:

• Forms a gel when in contact with wound exudate
• Helps maintain a moist wound environment
• Minimises adherence to the wound bed
• Supports gentle dressing removal

Absorbent foam layer:

UrgoStart Border contains an absorbent polyurethane foam pad.

The foam helps:

• Absorb wound exudate
• Retain fluid within the dressing
• Reduce lateral spread of exudate
• Protect the surrounding skin from excessive moisture
• Maintain an appropriate moist wound-healing environment

Important distinction from UrgoStart Plus Border:

UrgoStart Border and UrgoStart Plus Border both contain TLC-NOSF, but they are not the same dressing.

UrgoStart Border:

• TLC-NOSF wound-contact layer

UrgoStart Plus Border:

• TLC-NOSF Healing Matrix
• Additional poly-absorbent fibres
• Enhanced trapping of exudate, slough and wound debris

UrgoStart Plus Border is therefore the newer formulation and provides additional wound-cleansing and exudate-management properties.

Suitable wound types include:

UrgoStart Border may be used for moderately to heavily exuding chronic and hard-to-heal wounds, including:

• Venous leg ulcers
• Other leg ulcers
• Diabetic foot ulcers
• Pressure ulcers / pressure injuries
• Long-standing acute wounds
• Other appropriate wounds at risk of delayed healing

It is principally intended for wounds with:

• Granulation tissue
• Epithelialising tissue

The underlying cause of the wound must also be appropriately treated.

For example:

• Appropriate compression therapy may be required for venous leg ulcers
• Pressure redistribution is required for pressure injuries
• Appropriate off-loading is required for diabetic foot ulcers

How to use:

UrgoStart Border should be applied by, or according to the advice of, an appropriately trained healthcare professional.

Before application:

1. Wash or disinfect hands and use appropriate clinical gloves.
2. Clean the wound according to the prescribed wound-care protocol.
3. Debride the wound if clinically necessary.
4. Gently dry the surrounding skin.
5. Select a dressing size that provides adequate coverage of the wound and surrounding skin.
6. Check that the sterile pouch is intact before opening.

To apply:

1. Remove the dressing from its sterile packaging.
2. Remove the protective films.
3. Position the central absorbent pad over the wound.
4. Smooth the silicone adhesive border gently onto the surrounding intact skin.
5. Avoid excessive stretching or tension when applying the dressing.
6. Ensure that the dressing is securely positioned and that the wound is completely covered.

Dressing changes:

The frequency of dressing changes depends on:

• Amount of wound exudate
• Wound condition
• Condition of the surrounding skin
• Clinical progress

Change the dressing earlier if:

• It becomes saturated
• Exudate reaches the dressing border
• Leakage occurs
• The dressing becomes loose or displaced
• The wound requires reassessment
• Signs of infection or deterioration develop

The dressing-change interval should be determined by the treating healthcare professional.

Removal:

To remove:

1. Gently lift one edge of the silicone border.
2. Support the surrounding skin.
3. Slowly peel the dressing away from the wound.

The soft-adherent TLC-NOSF wound-contact layer and silicone border are designed to minimise trauma and discomfort during removal.

Important information:

UrgoStart Border should not be used on infected or critically colonised wounds unless the infection is being appropriately managed and use has been specifically assessed by a healthcare professional.

Do not use on:

• Malignant wounds
• Fistula wounds that may communicate with a deep abscess
• Wounds where there is a known hypersensitivity to the dressing or its components

Do not use if the sterile packaging is damaged or previously opened.

Do not:

• Reuse
• Re-sterilise
• Use after the expiry date

Infection:

UrgoStart Border does not replace appropriate antimicrobial or systemic treatment of wound infection.

Seek clinical review if there are signs such as:

• Increasing redness
• Increasing swelling
• Increasing wound pain
• Purulent discharge
• Offensive odour
• Fever
• Rapid deterioration or enlargement of the wound
