V.A.C.® Drape 30.5cm × 26cm – Single Dressing

V.A.C.® Drape is a sterile adhesive occlusive drape designed for use with V.A.C.® Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT).

The transparent adhesive film is applied over the wound dressing to create a sealed environment, helping the V.A.C.® Therapy System maintain the prescribed negative pressure at the wound site while providing a barrier against external contaminants.

What is V.A.C.® Drape used for?

V.A.C.® Drape forms part of a V.A.C.® Negative Pressure Wound Therapy dressing system.

It is used to:

• Cover the wound filler and surrounding area
• Secure the NPWT dressing in position
• Create an airtight or sufficiently sealed environment
• Help prevent external air entering the dressing
• Allow the V.A.C.® Therapy Unit to establish and maintain prescribed negative pressure

The drape is not a complete NPWT dressing on its own and must be used with the appropriate V.A.C.® wound filler, tubing, therapy unit and other components prescribed for the patient.

How it works:

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy requires the wound dressing to be adequately sealed.

After the appropriate wound filler has been placed in the wound, V.A.C.® Drape is applied over the dressing and onto the surrounding intact skin.

The adhesive film:

• Holds the dressing in position
• Forms the external seal
• Helps maintain negative pressure
• Provides a protective barrier from the external environment

The appropriate V.A.C.® therapy pad is then applied according to the dressing-system instructions and connected to the V.A.C.® Therapy Unit.

How to use:

V.A.C.® Drape should be applied by an appropriately trained healthcare professional, or by a patient or carer who has received specific training in V.A.C.® Therapy.

In general:

1. Prepare and clean the wound according to the prescribed wound-care protocol.
2. Protect vulnerable structures and surrounding skin where clinically required.
3. Place the prescribed V.A.C.® wound filler into the wound.
4. Ensure the surrounding skin is clean and dry.
5. Cut or shape the V.A.C.® Drape as required.
6. Remove the protective backing.
7. Apply the drape over the wound dressing, extending onto intact surrounding skin to obtain an adequate seal.
8. Smooth the film carefully to minimise wrinkles and air channels.
9. Apply the appropriate V.A.C.® therapy pad according to its Instructions for Use.
10. Connect the dressing to the compatible V.A.C.® Therapy Unit.
11. Start treatment at the pressure prescribed by the treating healthcare professional.
12. Check that the dressing compresses appropriately and that the system maintains therapy without a leak alarm.

Always follow the Instructions for Use supplied with the complete V.A.C.® Therapy System.

Maintaining an effective seal:

An adequate seal is essential for effective Negative Pressure Wound Therapy.

If the therapy system indicates an air leak:

• Check the edges of the drape
• Check folds and skin creases
• Check around tubing
• Check the therapy-pad connection
• Smooth down any loose areas
• Apply additional appropriate drape where clinically required

Avoid excessive stretching of the film when applying it to the skin.

Skin protection:

Repeated application and removal of adhesive films can affect fragile periwound skin.

The surrounding skin should be regularly assessed for:

• Redness
• Irritation
• Blistering
• Maceration
• Skin stripping
• Other signs of adhesive-related skin injury

Appropriate skin-protection measures should be used where clinically indicated.

Important information:

V.A.C.® Drape is an accessory for V.A.C.® Negative Pressure Wound Therapy.

It does not provide negative pressure therapy when used independently.

Use only with compatible V.A.C.® Therapy components and according to the relevant Instructions for Use.

Do not use if:

• The sterile pouch is damaged or previously opened
• The drape is damaged
• The product is contaminated
• The expiry date has passed

Do not:

• Reuse
• Re-sterilise
• Transfer a used dressing between patients

V.A.C.® Therapy should only be used where clinically appropriate and after assessment of the wound and patient.

V.A.C.® VERAFLO™ compatibility:

Standard V.A.C.® Drape is intended for conventional V.A.C.® Therapy.

Manufacturer product information specifically states that this standard V.A.C.® Drape is not intended for use with V.A.C. VERAFLO™ Therapy.

Use the dressing and drape components specified for the particular therapy system.
