Adjustable tube or fixed tube?

5170 – Adjustable tube

Conveen® Contour incorporates a compact clamp-style outlet for emptying the urine bag.

The clamp provides a straightforward opening and closing mechanism and allows the user to visually check whether the drainage outlet is correctly closed.

The small outlet design also helps minimise bulk at the bottom of the bag.

After emptying, always ensure the clamp is completely closed before repositioning the bag.

Soft non-woven backing

The skin-facing side of the Conveen® Contour bag incorporates a soft non-woven backing material.

This provides a more comfortable surface between the drainage bag and the leg and helps:

Using with a urinary catheter

Conveen® Contour 5170 can be used with an appropriate permanent urinary catheter.

When connecting the leg bag:

• Wash and dry your hands

• Ensure the drainage clamp is completely closed

• Adjust the tube according to the manufacturer's instructions if required

• Avoid touching the connection surfaces unnecessarily

• Connect the leg bag securely to the catheter

• Position the bag below bladder level

• Ensure the tubing follows a natural route

• Check that there are no kinks or obstructions

• Confirm that urine is draining freely

Avoid disconnecting an established catheter drainage system unnecessarily.

Using with a urinary sheath

Conveen® Contour can also be connected to an appropriate male urinary sheath, including compatible Conveen® sheath systems.

The sheath directs urine through the connecting tubing and into the leg bag.

Correct sheath sizing and application are important to reduce the risk of:

• Skin irritation

• Sheath detachment

• Restriction

• Poor drainage

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions supplied with the urinary sheath.

Positioning the leg bag

Secure the bag appropriately against the leg using a suitable leg-bag fixation system.

The adjustable inlet tube allows greater flexibility in positioning than a fixed-length tube.

Ensure that:

• The tube has been adjusted correctly

• The bag is comfortable during walking and sitting

• The tubing is not kinked or compressed

• There is no excessive tension on the catheter or sheath

• The bag remains adequately supported as it fills

• The drainage outlet remains easy to access

• The bag remains below bladder level when used with a catheter

Avoid securing the bag so tightly that circulation is restricted.

Directions:

Wash and dry your hands thoroughly.

Remove the Conveen® Contour bag from its packaging.

Ensure the clamp drainage outlet is securely closed.

Adjust the inlet tube to the required length according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Position and secure the bag appropriately against the leg.

Connect the inlet securely to the urinary catheter or compatible urinary sheath.

Arrange the tubing so that it is free from kinks, compression and unnecessary tension.

When used with a urinary catheter, ensure the drainage bag remains below bladder level.

Check that urine is able to drain freely into the bag.

Emptying the bag:

Empty the leg bag regularly and before it becomes excessively full.

Wash your hands.

Position the outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle.

Open the clamp outlet.

Allow the urine to drain completely.

Avoid allowing the drainage outlet to touch the toilet or receptacle.

Close the clamp securely.

Check visually that the outlet is fully closed.

Reposition the bag as required.

Wash your hands after handling the drainage system.

Changing the leg bag:

Replace the bag according to the manufacturer's instructions and the individual's catheter or continence-care plan.

Change the drainage bag sooner if:

• The bag becomes damaged

• Leakage develops

• The clamp no longer closes securely

• Tubing becomes damaged or obstructed

• The connection becomes insecure

• The drainage system becomes contaminated

• A healthcare professional advises replacement
