Medi Derma-S Barrier Cream

Medi Derma-S Barrier Cream is a non-sting moisturising barrier cream for intact or mildly damaged skin.

It forms a resilient, hydrophobic protective layer that helps shield the skin from prolonged exposure to moisture and irritants.

It can help protect against:

• Urinary incontinence

• Faecal incontinence

• Wound exudate

• Perspiration and other bodily fluids

• Friction

• Adhesive-related skin irritation

The cream is rapidly absorbed and forms a transparent protective coating, allowing the condition of the underlying skin to remain visible.

Only a small amount is required. The manufacturer's recommended approach is approximately a pea-sized amount for an area the size of the palm.

When correctly applied, it does not block the absorption of continence pads and is designed not to interfere significantly with the adhesion of dressings, ostomy appliances or other adhesive devices.

Medi Derma-S Barrier Film

Medi Derma-S Barrier Film is a silicone-based, non-sting liquid barrier film which dries rapidly to form a thin, transparent protective coating over the skin.

It provides protection against:

• Urine and faeces

• Wound exudate

• Stoma output

• Perspiration

• Adhesive products

• Friction-related skin damage

The film provides long-lasting protection for up to 72 hours, depending on the clinical situation and frequency of cleansing.

It does not normally need to be removed between applications and is designed not to impede adhesion of dressings, stoma pouches or other adhesive devices when correctly applied.

Different formats are available for different clinical requirements:

• 50ml aerosol – useful for no-touch application and larger areas

• 30ml pump spray – controlled spray application

• Wipes – convenient for smaller areas and routine skin protection

• 1ml sterile applicators – precise application to smaller or more sensitive areas

• 3ml sterile applicators – precise application over larger areas

The ointment creates a resilient, hydrophobic protective barrier and has a slightly tacky consistency that allows it to adhere effectively to moist or compromised skin.

Medi Derma-PRO Foam & Spray Incontinence Cleanser is a pH-balanced, non-rinse cleanser designed specifically for skin exposed to urine, faeces and other bodily fluids.

It helps remove:

Which Medi Derma product should I choose?

Intact skin or mild damage:
Use Medi Derma-S Barrier Cream where moisturisation and routine moisture protection are required.

Mild-to-moderate damage or where a transparent film is preferable:
Use Medi Derma-S Barrier Film.

This may be particularly useful around:

• Stomas

• Wounds

• Adhesive devices

• Areas repeatedly exposed to bodily fluids

Moderate-to-severe skin damage:
Consider the Medi Derma-PRO Skin Protectant Ointment, generally alongside appropriate clinical assessment and management.

For cleansing skin affected by incontinence:
Use Medi Derma-PRO Foam & Spray Incontinence Cleanser to gently remove urine, faeces and other bodily fluids without routine rinsing.

Directions – Medi Derma-S Barrier Cream:

Clean and dry the skin before application.

Apply a small pea-sized amount for approximately a palm-sized area.

Spread evenly in a thin layer using gentle circular movements.

The skin should remain visible through the applied cream.

If the skin looks oily or heavily coated, too much product has probably been applied. Remove excess gently.

Allow the product to settle before applying a continence pad, dressing, stoma pouch or other device.

Reapply according to the manufacturer's instructions and individual skin-care plan.

Directions – Medi Derma-S Barrier Film:

Ensure the skin is clean and dry.

For the 50ml aerosol, hold approximately 10–15cm from the skin and spray using a gentle sweeping movement.

For the 30ml pump spray, hold approximately 5cm from the skin.

Allow spray formulations approximately 30 seconds to dry.

When using a wipe or sterile applicator, apply an even coating to the area requiring protection and allow approximately 5–10 seconds to dry.

For periwound or peristomal protection, apply to the surrounding skin rather than directly into the wound or stoma.

Once completely dry, apply the dressing, pouch or adhesive device as usual.

Directions – Medi Derma-PRO Cleanser:

Apply the cleanser directly to the area requiring cleansing using the foam or spray function as appropriate.

Allow the cleanser to loosen bodily fluids and contamination.

Gently wipe away using an appropriate soft disposable wipe.

The product is no-rinse, so routine rinsing with water is not required.

Avoid unnecessary rubbing of fragile or damaged skin.

Follow with an appropriate skin protectant where indicated.
