Coloplast Assura® 2825 is a two-piece drainable ileostomy pouch with a Maxi pouch size, opaque covering and 50mm mechanical coupling, designed for people with an ileostomy or another stoma producing liquid or semi-liquid output.

The pouch connects to a separate compatible 50mm Assura® baseplate, allowing the adhesive baseplate to remain attached around the stoma while the pouch can be removed, repositioned or replaced independently.

The Assura® mechanical coupling provides a secure pouch-to-baseplate connection. An audible click confirms that the pouch has been correctly locked into position, while the pouch can be rotated before locking to achieve the preferred orientation.

The Maxi capacity is well suited to regular ileostomy output, while the opaque pouch conceals the contents for greater discretion. A self-adhesive soft closing clip secures the drainable outlet between emptying.

Two-piece system

Assura® 2825 forms part of a two-piece ostomy system.

The complete appliance consists of:

• A separate adhesive baseplate

• A removable drainable pouch

The baseplate adheres around the stoma while the pouch connects mechanically to the baseplate.

Unlike a one-piece appliance, the pouch can therefore be removed without automatically removing the adhesive from the skin.

This allows the pouch to be:

• Changed independently

• Repositioned when required

• Emptied repeatedly while attached

• Replaced more frequently than the adhesive baseplate if necessary

The baseplate is not included with this product and must be purchased separately if required.

50mm coupling size

The 50mm measurement refers to the mechanical coupling between the pouch and Assura® baseplate.

It does not mean that the stoma itself measures 50mm.

Reference 2825 must be paired with a compatible 50mm Assura® baseplate.

The actual opening surrounding the stoma is determined separately by the baseplate selected.

A 50mm coupling baseplate may therefore have a smaller pre-cut or cut-to-fit stoma opening within the coupling ring.

Always match:

• With a 50mm Assura® baseplate coupling

A 50mm pouch cannot be securely connected to a 40mm or 60mm Assura® baseplate.

Mechanical coupling with audible click

Assura® uses a mechanical coupling system to connect the pouch securely to the baseplate.

The pouch is positioned over the coupling ring and locked into place.

An audible click confirms that the pouch has been securely attached.

Before locking, the pouch can be rotated into the preferred position without removing it from the baseplate.

This allows the outlet to be positioned conveniently according to:

• Standing position

• Sitting position

• Lying position

• Emptying technique

• Clothing

• Individual preference

After attaching the pouch, check around the complete circumference of the coupling to ensure it is fully engaged.

Maxi pouch size

Reference 2825 is the Maxi version of the Assura® drainable pouch.

The larger pouch capacity is particularly useful for ileostomy because ileostomy output can be relatively frequent and liquid.

A Maxi pouch provides additional collection capacity while still allowing the contents to be emptied whenever required.

The pouch should nevertheless be emptied before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Regular emptying helps:

• Reduce weight pulling on the baseplate

• Reduce pressure on the mechanical coupling

• Improve comfort

• Maintain a more discreet pouch profile

• Reduce the risk of leakage associated with excessive pouch weight

Drainable ileostomy pouch

Assura® 2825 is an open/drainable pouch.

This makes it particularly suitable for ileostomy output, which is generally more liquid or semi-liquid than typical colostomy output.

Rather than replacing the pouch every time it fills, the contents can be emptied through the drainage outlet several times during normal wear.

The pouch can then remain connected to the baseplate according to the manufacturer's instructions and the individual's normal stoma-care routine.

Self-adhesive soft closing clip

The drainable outlet is secured using Coloplast's self-adhesive soft closing clip.

The clip provides a closure system designed to be:

• Secure

• Straightforward to operate

• Easy to clean

• Soft against the body

After emptying:

• Clean the end of the outlet as required

• Fold the outlet correctly

• Secure it using the soft closing clip

• Check that the closure is completely secure

Always confirm that the outlet is properly closed before repositioning clothing.

Opaque pouch

Reference 2825 is the Opaque version.

The opaque construction conceals the stoma output and pouch contents during normal wear.

This can provide:

• Greater discretion beneath clothing

• Concealment of ileostomy output

• A less clinical appearance than a transparent pouch

• Greater confidence for users who prefer the contents not to be visible

For users who prefer direct visibility of the stoma and output, the corresponding Maxi Clear 50mm pouch is Ref 2795.

Soft backing fabric

The side of the pouch in contact with the body incorporates soft backing fabric.

This provides a softer interface between the pouch and the skin than exposed pouch film alone.

The backing is designed to:

• Improve comfort against the body

• Allow the skin to breathe

• Reduce pouch noise during movement

• Dry quickly following showering or swimming

This can make the pouch more comfortable during prolonged everyday wear.

Odour-proof pouch film

The pouch is manufactured from odour-proof material.

This helps contain odour from stoma output while the pouch remains intact and correctly closed.

The pouch should be replaced if:

• The pouch film becomes damaged

• Leakage occurs

• The outlet can no longer be closed securely

• The mechanical coupling becomes damaged

Assura® spiral adhesive baseplate

The adhesive is part of the separate Assura® baseplate, rather than the pouch itself.

Assura® baseplates incorporate Coloplast's spiral adhesive technology, which combines materials designed to provide:

• Absorption of moisture

• Protection of the peristomal skin

The pouch can be removed separately from the baseplate, allowing the baseplate to remain in place when appropriate.

Choosing the correct baseplate

Reference 2825 is the pouch only.

A compatible 50mm Assura® baseplate must be selected separately.

Baseplate choice depends on factors including:

• Stoma diameter

• Stoma shape

• Peristomal skin condition

• Abdominal contours

• Required cut-to-fit or pre-cut opening

• Required wear characteristics

• Whether a flat or convex solution is appropriate

The baseplate opening should fit closely around the stoma without touching or constricting it.

This is particularly important with ileostomy output because prolonged contact between output and exposed peristomal skin can cause significant irritation.

50mm coupling versus stoma size

The coupling size and stoma opening are two different measurements.

For example, an Assura® system may have:

• 50mm pouch-to-baseplate coupling

• A considerably smaller opening around the actual stoma

Do not select the pouch based only on the measured diameter of the stoma.

First select the appropriate baseplate for the stoma, then ensure the pouch has the same coupling size as that baseplate.

Flat or convex baseplate?

The pouch itself does not provide convexity.

The profile of the complete appliance depends on the Assura® baseplate selected.

Compatible Assura® systems include flat and convex baseplate options.

A flat baseplate may be appropriate where the stoma protrudes adequately and the surrounding abdominal surface provides a reliable sealing area.

Convexity may be considered where the stoma is:

• Flush with the skin

• Retracted

• Located within a dip

• Situated within folds or uneven abdominal contours

• Associated with recurrent leakage when using a flat appliance

Convexity should be selected following appropriate stoma assessment.

Attaching the pouch:

Ensure the compatible 50mm Assura® baseplate has been correctly applied.

Check that the baseplate coupling ring is clean and unobstructed.

Position the pouch over the coupling.

Rotate the pouch into the preferred position if required.

Lock the pouch according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Listen for the audible click confirming secure attachment.

Check around the complete circumference of the coupling.

Gently confirm that the pouch is securely attached before repositioning clothing.

Emptying the pouch:

Empty the pouch before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Position the outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle.

Release the self-adhesive soft closing clip.

Open the drainage outlet.

Allow the pouch contents to drain.

Clean the end of the outlet as required.

Fold the outlet correctly.

Secure it using the closing clip.

Check that the outlet is completely closed before repositioning clothing.

Changing the pouch:

The pouch can be removed independently while the adhesive baseplate remains attached.

Wash and dry your hands.

Release the mechanical coupling according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Carefully remove the pouch from the baseplate.

Check the existing baseplate for:

• Leakage

• Lifting

• Output beneath the adhesive

• Damage

• Deterioration of the seal

If the baseplate remains secure and clinically appropriate to continue wearing, attach a new compatible 50mm Assura® pouch.

If leakage or adhesive failure is present, replace the baseplate as well.

• Significant changes in stoma colour, severe abdominal pain, marked swelling, persistent vomiting or unexpected cessation of ileostomy output accompanied by symptoms of obstruction require appropriate clinical assessment
