Coloplast Assura® 2855 is a two-piece urostomy pouch with a Midi pouch size, clear construction and 50mm mechanical coupling, designed for continuous collection and drainage of urine from a urostomy.

The pouch connects to a separate compatible 50mm Assura® baseplate, allowing the adhesive baseplate to remain attached around the stoma while the pouch can be removed and replaced independently.

The Assura® mechanical coupling provides a secure connection between pouch and baseplate, with an audible click helping confirm that the pouch has been correctly locked into position. Before locking, the pouch can be rotated to achieve the preferred orientation.

The pouch incorporates a non-return valve to help reduce urine flowing back towards the stoma and a soft drainage outlet for repeated emptying throughout the day.

Two-piece system

Assura® 2855 forms part of a two-piece ostomy system.

The complete appliance consists of:

• A separate adhesive baseplate

• A removable urostomy pouch

The baseplate adheres to the skin around the urinary stoma while the pouch connects mechanically to the baseplate.

Unlike a one-piece appliance, the pouch can be removed and replaced while the adhesive baseplate remains attached, provided the baseplate continues to provide an appropriate and secure seal.

This can be useful where:

• The pouch requires changing independently of the baseplate

• Repeated removal of adhesive from the skin is undesirable

• A modular pouch and baseplate system is preferred

• Different compatible Assura® pouches are used with the same baseplate

The baseplate is not included with this product and must be purchased separately if required.

50mm coupling size

The 50mm measurement refers to the mechanical coupling between the pouch and Assura® baseplate.

It does not mean that the urinary stoma itself measures 50mm.

Reference 2855 must be paired with a compatible 50mm Assura® baseplate.

The actual opening around the stoma is determined separately by the baseplate selected.

A 50mm coupling baseplate may therefore have a significantly smaller pre-cut or cut-to-fit opening around the stoma.

Always match:

• 50mm pouch coupling

• With a 50mm Assura® baseplate coupling

A 50mm pouch cannot be securely connected to a 40mm or 60mm Assura® baseplate.

Mechanical coupling

Assura® uses a mechanical coupling system to attach the pouch securely to the baseplate.

The pouch is positioned over the coupling ring and locked into place.

An audible click helps confirm that the pouch has been securely attached.

Before the pouch is locked, it can be rotated into the preferred position without removing it from the baseplate.

This allows positioning to suit:

• Standing

• Sitting

• Lying down

• Emptying the pouch

• Clothing

• Individual preference

After attaching the pouch, check around the complete circumference of the coupling to ensure it is fully engaged.

Midi pouch

Reference 2855 is the Midi version of the Assura® urostomy pouch.

The Midi format provides a more compact profile than the Maxi version and may be preferred where a smaller pouch provides sufficient urine capacity.

Pouch size should be selected according to:

• Individual urine output

• Frequency of emptying

• Body size

• Lifestyle

• Clothing

• Personal preference

The pouch should be emptied regularly and before becoming excessively full or heavy.

Clear pouch

Reference 2855 is Clear.

The transparent pouch allows visibility of:

• The urinary stoma

• Urine entering the pouch

• Urine colour

• Pouch contents

• Appliance positioning

This may be useful when monitoring the stoma or urine, or where a transparent pouch is preferred.

The body-facing side incorporates soft backing to provide greater comfort against the skin.

Non-return valve

Assura® urostomy pouches incorporate a non-return valve.

The valve helps reduce collected urine flowing backwards towards the stoma.

This helps keep urine away from the stoma and surrounding skin as the pouch fills and when the user changes position.

The non-return valve does not replace the need to:

• Empty the pouch regularly

• Ensure the drainage outlet is securely closed

• Check the appliance for leakage

• Use overnight drainage correctly where required

Soft drainage outlet

The pouch incorporates a soft plastic drainage outlet designed for repeated emptying.

The outlet is designed to be easy to handle and to allow the pouch to drain effectively.

Empty the pouch before it becomes excessively full.

Regular emptying helps:

• Reduce weight pulling on the baseplate

• Reduce pressure on the mechanical coupling

• Improve comfort

• Maintain discretion

• Reduce unnecessary tension on the appliance

Always check that the outlet is securely closed after emptying.

Overnight drainage

Assura® 2855 can be connected to an appropriate overnight urine drainage system using the correct adaptor.

Each pack includes 4 drain-tube adaptors.

An overnight drainage system provides additional urine collection capacity while sleeping and can reduce the need to wake repeatedly to empty the urostomy pouch.

When connecting overnight drainage:

• Use the correct compatible adaptor

• Ensure all connections are secure

• Position the night drainage bag below the level of the urostomy pouch

• Keep all tubing free from kinks

• Avoid trapping tubing beneath the body or bedding

• Ensure tubing does not pull on the pouch

• Follow the manufacturer's instructions for both drainage systems

Soft body-facing backing

Reference 2855 incorporates soft backing on the body-facing side.

This provides a softer interface between the pouch and the skin than exposed pouch film alone.

The backing is designed to help improve:

• Comfort during everyday wear

• Contact against the body

• Discretion

• Handling of the appliance

The clear construction still allows visibility of the stoma and collected urine.

Choosing the correct baseplate

Reference 2855 is the pouch only.

A compatible 50mm Assura® baseplate must be selected separately.

Baseplate selection depends on factors including:

• Stoma diameter

• Stoma shape

• Peristomal skin condition

• Abdominal contours

• Required cut-to-fit or pre-cut opening

• Adhesive requirements

• Whether a flat or convex baseplate is appropriate

The baseplate opening should fit closely around the stoma without touching or constricting it.

An opening that is too large can expose surrounding skin to urine and may increase the risk of leakage and skin irritation.

50mm coupling versus stoma size

The coupling size and stoma opening are two different measurements.

An Assura® system may therefore have:

• A 50mm mechanical coupling

• A much smaller opening around the actual stoma

Do not select the pouch based solely on the measured stoma diameter.

First select an appropriate Assura® baseplate for the individual stoma, then ensure the pouch has the same 50mm coupling size as the selected baseplate.

Flat or convex baseplate?

The pouch itself does not provide convexity.

Whether the complete appliance is flat or convex depends on the Assura® baseplate selected.

A flat baseplate may be suitable where the stoma protrudes adequately and the surrounding abdominal surface provides a reliable sealing area.

Convexity may be considered where the stoma is:

• Flush with the skin

• Retracted

• Located within a dip

• Situated within folds or uneven abdominal contours

• Associated with recurrent leakage when using a flat appliance

Convex products should be selected following appropriate stoma assessment.

Attaching the pouch:

Ensure the compatible 50mm Assura® baseplate has been correctly applied.

Check that the coupling ring is clean and unobstructed.

Position the pouch over the baseplate coupling.

Rotate the pouch into the preferred position if required.

Lock the pouch according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Listen for the audible click confirming secure attachment.

Check around the complete circumference of the coupling.

Gently confirm that the pouch is securely attached.

Ensure the drainage outlet is completely closed before normal use.

Emptying the pouch:

Empty the pouch before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Position the drainage outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle.

Open the soft drainage outlet according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Allow the urine to drain completely.

Avoid allowing the outlet to touch the toilet or receptacle.

Wipe the outlet if required.

Close the outlet securely.

Check that it is fully closed before repositioning clothing.

Changing the pouch:

The pouch can be removed independently while the adhesive baseplate remains attached.

Wash and dry your hands.

Release the mechanical coupling according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Carefully remove the pouch from the baseplate.

Inspect the existing baseplate for:

• Leakage

• Lifting

• Urine beneath the adhesive

• Damage

• Deterioration of the seal

If the baseplate remains secure and appropriate to continue wearing, attach a new compatible 50mm Assura® urostomy pouch.

If leakage or adhesive failure is present, replace the baseplate as well.

• Cloudy or unusually foul-smelling urine, fever, flank pain or other symptoms suggesting urinary infection require appropriate clinical assessment

• Significant changes in stoma colour or appearance should be assessed appropriately
