Coloplast Assura® 2876 is a two-piece urostomy pouch with a Maxi pouch size, clear construction and 60mm mechanical coupling, designed for continuous collection and drainage of urine from a urostomy.

The pouch connects to a separate compatible 60mm Assura® baseplate, allowing the adhesive baseplate to remain attached around the stoma while the pouch can be removed, repositioned or replaced independently.

The Assura® mechanical coupling provides a secure pouch-to-baseplate connection. An audible click helps confirm that the pouch has been correctly locked into position, and the pouch can be rotated before locking to achieve the preferred orientation.

The pouch incorporates a non-return valve to help prevent collected urine flowing back towards the stoma and a soft drainage outlet designed for repeated emptying throughout the day.

Two-piece system

Assura® 2876 forms part of a two-piece ostomy system.

The complete appliance consists of:

• A separate adhesive baseplate

• A removable urostomy pouch

The baseplate adheres to the skin around the urinary stoma while the pouch connects mechanically to the baseplate.

Unlike a one-piece appliance, the pouch can be removed and replaced while the adhesive baseplate remains attached, provided the baseplate continues to provide a secure and appropriate seal.

This allows the pouch to be:

• Changed independently of the baseplate

• Repositioned where required

• Replaced more frequently than the adhesive baseplate

• Used with different compatible Assura® baseplates according to individual requirements

The baseplate is not included with this product and must be purchased separately if required.

60mm coupling size

The 60mm measurement refers to the mechanical coupling between the pouch and Assura® baseplate.

It does not mean that the urinary stoma itself measures 60mm.

Reference 2876 must be paired with a compatible 60mm Assura® baseplate.

The actual opening around the stoma is determined separately by the baseplate selected.

A 60mm coupling baseplate can therefore have a considerably smaller cut-to-fit or pre-cut opening surrounding the stoma.

Always match:

• With a 60mm Assura® baseplate coupling

A 60mm pouch cannot be securely connected to a 40mm or 50mm Assura® baseplate.

Mechanical coupling

Assura® uses a mechanical coupling system to secure the pouch to the baseplate.

The pouch is positioned over the coupling ring and locked into place.

An audible click helps confirm that the pouch has been securely attached.

Before locking, the pouch can be rotated into the preferred position without removing it from the baseplate.

This can help position the drainage outlet conveniently according to:

• Standing position

• Sitting position

• Sleeping position

• Clothing

• Emptying technique

• Individual preference

After attaching the pouch, check around the complete circumference of the coupling to ensure it is fully engaged.

Maxi pouch

Reference 2876 is the Maxi version of the Assura® urostomy pouch.

The larger pouch size provides additional urine collection capacity compared with the Midi version.

This may be particularly useful for users who:

• Produce larger volumes of urine

• Prefer increased daytime capacity

• Want to reduce how frequently the pouch needs emptying

• Find a Midi pouch insufficient for their requirements

The pouch should still be emptied regularly and before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Excessive pouch weight can:

• Pull on the adhesive baseplate

• Place additional pressure on the mechanical coupling

• Reduce comfort

• Reduce discretion

• Increase tension on the appliance

Clear pouch

Reference 2876 is Clear.

The transparent construction allows visibility of:

• The urinary stoma

• Urine entering the pouch

• Urine colour

• Pouch contents

• Appliance positioning

This can be useful where the user, carer or healthcare professional prefers direct visibility of the stoma and urine.

The body-facing side incorporates soft backing for greater comfort against the skin.

Non-return valve

The Assura® urostomy pouch incorporates an integrated non-return valve.

The valve helps prevent collected urine from washing back over the stoma once it has entered the pouch.

This helps keep collected urine away from the stoma as the pouch fills and when the user changes body position.

The non-return valve does not replace the need to:

• Empty the pouch regularly

• Ensure the drainage outlet is securely closed

• Check the appliance for leakage

• Ensure overnight drainage tubing remains correctly positioned

Soft drainage outlet

The pouch incorporates a soft plastic drainage outlet designed for repeated emptying.

The outlet is designed to be straightforward to handle and to allow urine to drain effectively from the pouch.

The pouch should be emptied before it becomes excessively full.

Regular emptying helps:

• Reduce weight pulling on the baseplate

• Reduce pressure on the coupling

• Improve comfort

• Maintain a more discreet pouch profile

• Reduce unnecessary tension on the appliance

Always ensure the drainage outlet is securely closed after emptying.

Overnight drainage

Assura® 2876 can be connected to an appropriate overnight urine drainage system using the correct drain-tube adaptor.

Each pack contains 4 drain-tube adaptors.

Using an appropriate night drainage system provides additional urine collection capacity while sleeping and can reduce the need to wake repeatedly to empty the urostomy pouch.

When using overnight drainage:

• Use the correct compatible drain-tube adaptor

• Ensure all connections are secure

• Position the night drainage bag below the level of the urostomy pouch

• Ensure drainage tubing remains free from kinks

• Avoid trapping tubing beneath the body or bedding

• Ensure the tubing does not pull on the pouch

• Check that urine can drain freely

• Follow the manufacturer's instructions supplied with both drainage systems

Soft body-facing backing

Reference 2876 incorporates soft backing on the body-facing side.

This provides a softer surface between the pouch and the skin than exposed pouch film alone.

The soft backing is designed to improve:

• Comfort during everyday wear

• Contact against the body

• Discretion

• Handling of the appliance

Because this is the Clear version, visibility of the stoma and collected urine is retained.

Choosing the correct baseplate

Reference 2876 is the pouch only.

A compatible 60mm Assura® baseplate must be selected separately.

Baseplate selection depends on factors including:

• Stoma diameter

• Stoma shape

• Peristomal skin condition

• Abdominal contours

• Required cut-to-fit or pre-cut opening

• Adhesive requirements

• Whether a flat or convex baseplate is appropriate

The opening in the baseplate should fit closely around the stoma without touching or constricting it.

An opening that is too large may expose the surrounding skin to urine and increase the risk of leakage or skin irritation.

60mm coupling versus stoma size

The coupling size and stoma opening are two separate measurements.

For example, the system may have:

• A 60mm mechanical pouch-to-baseplate coupling

• A smaller opening around the actual urinary stoma

Do not select this pouch simply because the stoma measures approximately 60mm.

The appropriate baseplate should first be selected according to the stoma, and the pouch must then have the same coupling size as the selected baseplate.

Assura® spiral adhesive baseplates

Compatible Assura® baseplates incorporate Coloplast's spiral adhesive technology.

The spiral adhesive combines materials designed to provide:

• Secure adhesion to the skin

• Absorption of moisture from the skin

• Protection of the peristomal area

The pouch itself does not contain the adhesive; the adhesive is part of the separate baseplate.

Because the pouch can be detached separately, the baseplate may remain in place when appropriate while the pouch is changed.

Flat or convex baseplate?

The pouch itself does not provide convexity.

The profile of the complete appliance depends on the Assura® baseplate selected.

Compatible systems include flat and convex baseplates.

A flat baseplate may be suitable where the urinary stoma protrudes adequately and the surrounding abdominal surface provides a reliable sealing area.

Convexity may be considered where the stoma is:

• Flush with the skin

• Retracted

• Located within a dip

• Situated within folds or uneven abdominal contours

• Associated with recurrent leakage using a flat appliance

Convex products should be selected following appropriate stoma assessment.

Attaching the pouch:

Ensure the compatible 60mm Assura® baseplate has been correctly applied.

Check that the coupling ring is clean and unobstructed.

Position the pouch over the baseplate coupling.

Rotate the pouch into the preferred position if required.

Lock the pouch according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Listen for the audible click confirming secure attachment.

Check around the complete circumference of the coupling.

Gently confirm that the pouch is securely attached.

Ensure the drainage outlet is closed before normal use.

Emptying the pouch:

Empty the pouch before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Position the drainage outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle.

Open the soft drainage outlet according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Allow the urine to drain completely.

Avoid allowing the outlet to touch the toilet or receptacle.

Wipe the outlet if required.

Close the outlet securely.

Check that the outlet is completely closed before repositioning clothing.

Changing the pouch:

The pouch can be removed independently while the adhesive baseplate remains attached.

Wash and dry your hands.

Release the mechanical coupling according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Carefully remove the pouch from the baseplate.

Inspect the existing baseplate for:

• Leakage

• Lifting

• Urine beneath the adhesive

• Damage

• Deterioration of the seal

If the baseplate remains secure and appropriate to continue wearing, attach a new compatible 60mm Assura® urostomy pouch.

If leakage or adhesive failure is present, replace the baseplate as well.

• Cloudy or unusually foul-smelling urine, fever, flank pain or other symptoms suggesting urinary infection require appropriate clinical assessment

• Significant changes in stoma colour or appearance should also be assessed appropriately
