Coloplast Assura® Paediatric 2115 is a one-piece drainable ostomy pouch specifically designed for paediatric stoma care, with a clear pouch, compact dimensions and an adjustable 10–35mm cut-to-fit opening.

The pouch and adhesive skin barrier are permanently joined to form a complete one-piece appliance. At each appliance change, the entire pouch and adhesive are removed and replaced together.

Assura® incorporates Coloplast's spiral adhesive system, which combines moisture absorption with secure adhesion to help protect the delicate skin surrounding the stoma.

Reference 2115 is the clear version, making it particularly useful where visibility of the stoma and pouch contents is desirable. The equivalent opaque paediatric version is reference 2110.

Paediatric design

Assura® 2115 has been specifically developed for paediatric ostomy care.

Children generally require a smaller adhesive area and more compact pouch dimensions than adults. The paediatric design provides a more proportionate appliance while retaining the principal functions required for secure drainable stoma management.

Paediatric stoma appliances should be selected and monitored with guidance from an appropriately experienced Paediatric or Stoma Care Nurse.

One-piece system

Assura® 2115 is a one-piece appliance.

The pouch and adhesive skin barrier form a single integrated unit.

This means:

• There is no separate baseplate and pouch coupling

• The complete appliance is applied at the same time

• The complete pouch and adhesive are removed together at each change

• There is no mechanical coupling ring

A one-piece system provides a relatively simple and low-profile appliance suitable for regular paediatric stoma care.

Cut-to-fit 10–35mm opening

Reference 2115 has an opening that can be cut to fit stomas between approximately 10mm and 35mm.

The stoma should be measured carefully before preparing each appliance, particularly if its size is changing.

The finished opening should fit closely around the stoma without touching, rubbing or constricting it.

An opening that is too large may expose the surrounding skin to stoma output.

This is particularly important with ileostomy output because digestive enzymes within the output can rapidly irritate exposed peristomal skin.

Choosing the correct opening size:

Measure the stoma using an appropriate stoma measuring guide.

Trace the required size and shape onto the cutting guide.

Carefully cut the opening to fit the individual stoma.

Do not cut beyond the stated 35mm maximum.

Before applying the pouch, check that the opening:

• Fits closely around the stoma

• Does not constrict or rub against the stoma

• Minimises exposed surrounding skin

• Follows the actual shape of the stoma where necessary

A child's stoma may change in size as healing progresses and as the child grows.

For this reason, the stoma should be remeasured regularly rather than assuming that the previous cutting size remains correct.

Assura® spiral adhesive

Assura® incorporates Coloplast's spiral adhesive technology.

The adhesive combines two functions within its spiral structure.

One component is optimised for moisture absorption, helping maintain an appropriate environment around the stoma.

The other component is optimised for secure adhesion, helping keep the appliance attached during normal wear.

This combination is designed to provide:

Gentle adhesive removal is particularly important in paediatric stoma care because repeated stripping of delicate skin can cause irritation.

Clear pouch

Reference 2115 is the clear paediatric Assura® pouch.

A clear appliance allows improved visibility of the stoma and pouch contents.

This can be useful:

• Following surgery

• When monitoring stoma appearance

• When assessing output

• When checking pouch positioning

• Where parents, carers or healthcare professionals need greater visibility

For users who prefer greater concealment of the pouch contents, Assura® 2110 is the corresponding opaque paediatric drainable pouch.

Integrated filter

The pouch incorporates an integrated filter.

Gas produced by the bowel can collect inside an ostomy pouch and cause ballooning.

The filter is designed to:

• Allow gas to leave the pouch gradually

• Help reduce pouch inflation

• Help control odour

• Maintain a flatter pouch profile

• Improve comfort and discretion

Do not puncture or modify the filter.

Drainable pouch

Assura® 2115 is a drainable pouch, making it particularly appropriate for liquid or semi-liquid ileostomy output.

The pouch can be emptied repeatedly without removing the complete appliance from the skin.

It should normally be emptied before becoming excessively full or heavy.

Regular emptying helps:

• Reduce pulling on the adhesive

• Improve comfort

• Reduce pressure on the appliance

• Maintain a lower pouch profile

• Reduce the risk of leakage associated with excessive pouch weight

Self-adhesive soft closing clip

The drainage outlet is secured using Coloplast's self-adhesive soft closing clip.

The clip is designed to provide a secure but soft closure at the bottom of the pouch.

When the pouch needs emptying, the outlet is opened and the contents drained. The outlet is then cleaned, refolded and secured again using the closure system.

Always check that the drainage outlet is fully secured before repositioning clothing.

This product uses the traditional Assura® closing system and should not be confused with newer Assura Inspire® products incorporating a Hide-Away outlet.

Directions:

Wash and dry your hands.

Measure the stoma carefully.

Cut the adhesive opening to the required size within the 10–35mm range.

Check the cut opening against the measured stoma.

Ensure the drainage outlet is securely closed.

Gently remove the existing appliance according to the child's established stoma-care routine.

Clean the surrounding skin as advised by the Stoma Care Nurse.

Ensure the peristomal skin is appropriately clean and dry.

Remove the protective backing from the adhesive.

Centre the opening carefully over the stoma.

Apply the adhesive gently around the stoma.

Smooth the barrier outward to establish secure contact with the skin.

Check around the complete adhesive area for:

• Gaps

• Creases

• Folds

• Areas where the adhesive has not made full contact

Apply gentle hand pressure over the adhesive to help establish a secure seal.

Emptying the pouch:

Empty the pouch before it becomes excessively full.

Position the outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle.

Release the soft closing clip according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Open the drainage outlet.

Allow the pouch contents to drain.

Clean the end of the outlet as required.

Refold the outlet correctly.

Secure the outlet using the closing clip.

Check that the closure is secure before repositioning clothing.

Changing the appliance:

Change the complete appliance according to the child's individual stoma-care routine and the manufacturer's instructions.

Remove the adhesive slowly and gently, supporting the surrounding skin while peeling the appliance away.

Avoid pulling the pouch rapidly from delicate paediatric skin.

At every appliance change, check the surrounding skin for:

• Redness

• Soreness

• Broken skin

• Moisture damage

• Signs of leakage

• Pressure or rubbing

Persistent skin changes or recurrent leakage should be assessed by a Stoma Care Nurse or appropriate paediatric healthcare professional.
