How it works:

A healthy vagina normally has an acidic environment, supported by beneficial bacteria called lactobacilli.

Bacterial Vaginosis occurs when the natural balance of vaginal bacteria is disrupted and vaginal pH rises, often to above 4.5.

This may result in:

They also contain glycogen, which provides nutrients that encourage the growth of beneficial lactobacilli and support the restoration of normal vaginal flora.

How to use:

For the treatment of Bacterial Vaginosis:

• Insert 1 pessary into the vagina once daily
• Use for 7 consecutive days
• Preferably use at bedtime

Application instructions:

1. Wash your hands before use.
2. Remove one pessary from its individual packaging.
3. Lie down or position yourself comfortably.
4. Gently insert the pessary into the vagina as far as is comfortable.
5. Ideally use immediately before going to bed.
6. Wash your hands after use.

Complete the full 7-day course, even if symptoms improve before the end of treatment.

Some vaginal leakage or residue may occur as the pessary dissolves. Using the pessary at bedtime can help minimise leakage.

For recurrent BV:

If symptoms recur or you suspect that your vaginal balance has been disrupted, Balance Activ BV Treatment Pessaries may be used to help restore normal vaginal pH and flora.

The manufacturer's current guidance is:

They do not protect against:

BV versus thrush:

Balance Activ BV Treatment Pessaries are intended for Bacterial Vaginosis and are not an antifungal treatment for vaginal thrush.

BV is commonly associated with:

• Usually little or no significant itching

Thrush is more commonly associated with:
