Clear Advantage Spirit® is a self-adhesive silicone male urinary sheath with hydrocolloid adhesive, designed for the management of male urinary incontinence by directing urine into a compatible leg bag or night drainage bag.

The range is available in three different sheath styles to accommodate different penile lengths, levels of retraction and fixation requirements.

Each style is available in 24mm, 28mm, 32mm, 36mm and 40mm diameters, allowing the correct sheath diameter and configuration to be selected for the individual user.

Clear Advantage Spirit sheaths are non-sterile, single-use devices and are supplied in packs of 30.

Style 2 – Pop-On

Shorter sheath with the adhesive positioned closer to the tip.

Particularly useful where the penis is shorter or retracted at rest, although the manufacturer states it can accommodate different penile lengths.

What is Clear Advantage Spirit used for?

Clear Advantage Spirit is intended for the management of male urinary incontinence.

The sheath is worn externally over the penis and connected to an appropriate:

• Urinary leg bag

• Bed / night drainage bag

• Other compatible urine collection system

Urine passes through the sheath outlet and drainage tubing into the connected collection bag.

Unlike an indwelling urinary catheter, the sheath:

• Does not enter the urethra

• Does not enter the bladder

• Is worn externally

It may therefore provide a suitable urine-management option for appropriately assessed men who experience urinary leakage but do not require an indwelling catheter.

Self-adhesive silicone sheath

Clear Advantage Spirit is manufactured as a self-adhesive silicone sheath.

The internal adhesive region helps secure the sheath to the penis without requiring a separate external adhesive strip.

Silicone provides a soft, flexible sheath material designed to conform to the body while allowing the user or carer to monitor the underlying skin.

Hydrocolloid adhesive

The Spirit range uses a hydrocolloid adhesive system.

Choosing the correct style

Selecting the right diameter is only one part of fitting.

The appropriate style should also be chosen.

Choose Style 2 – Pop-On where:

• Penile length is reduced

• The penis tends to retract at rest

• A shorter sheath is easier to apply

Choose Style 3 – Wideband where:

• There is adequate penile length

• Standard sheaths repeatedly loosen or detach

Connection to a drainage bag

The sheath outlet is designed to connect to an appropriate urinary drainage system.

This may include:

• Daytime leg bag

• Night drainage bag

The connection should be secure without pulling on the sheath.

Ensure:

• Tubing is not kinked

• The drainage bag is positioned appropriately

• The drainage bag has its own support

• The weight of a filling bag does not pull directly on the sheath

A leg bag should normally be supported with appropriate straps or a sleeve.

Applying the sheath

Always follow the manufacturer's fitting instructions.

1. Wash and dry your hands.

2. Ensure the penis and surrounding skin are clean and completely dry.
