One-piece closed appliance

Moderma Flex 22300 is a one-piece system.

The pouch and adhesive skin barrier are permanently connected.

There is:

• No separate baseplate

• No mechanical coupling

• No separate pouch attachment

When the pouch requires changing, the complete pouch and adhesive barrier are removed together and replaced with a new appliance.

This provides a simple, relatively low-profile pouching system.

Closed colostomy pouch

Reference 22300 is a closed pouch.

It does not have a drainage outlet at the bottom.

Closed pouches are generally most suitable where stoma output is:

• Formed

• Semi-formed

• Relatively predictable

• Produced at manageable intervals

When the pouch contains sufficient output to require changing, the complete appliance is removed and replaced.

For frequent liquid output, a drainable pouch may generally be more practical.

Maxi pouch size

Ref 22300 is the Maxi version of the Moderma Flex closed flat pouch.

The Maxi pouch provides greater collection capacity than the corresponding Midi product and may be preferred where:

SoftFlex™ skin barrier

Moderma Flex 22300 uses Hollister's SoftFlex™ skin barrier.

SoftFlex™ is a flexible, standard-wear skin barrier designed to provide secure adhesion while remaining gentle to the peristomal skin.

This is particularly useful with a closed pouch because the adhesive barrier is removed whenever the complete appliance is changed.

The SoftFlex™ barrier is designed to:

• Adhere securely around the stoma

• Move with normal body movement

• Provide comfortable skin contact

• Help protect peristomal skin from stoma output

Correct sizing of the opening remains important for maintaining healthy skin and reducing leakage.

Flat skin barrier

Reference 22300 has a flat barrier.

It does not incorporate convexity.

A flat appliance may be appropriate where:

• The stoma protrudes sufficiently above skin level

• The surrounding abdominal surface provides a suitable sealing area

• Significant inward dips are absent

• Deep folds or creases do not interfere with the seal

• Additional convex pressure is not required

A flat appliance may not be suitable for every stoma.

Flush or retracted stomas, deep inward areas or recurrent leakage may require assessment for a convex or differently shaped appliance.

15–55mm cut-to-fit opening

Ref 22300 has a 15–55mm cut-to-fit opening.

The SoftFlex™ barrier can be cut to suit the measured size and shape of the individual stoma within this range.

Cut-to-fit appliances may be particularly useful where:

• The stoma does not correspond to a standard pre-cut diameter

• The stoma is irregularly shaped

• Stoma size is changing

• A more individually prepared opening is required

Do not cut beyond the manufacturer's stated 55mm maximum.

Choosing the correct opening

Measure the stoma carefully using an appropriate stoma measuring guide.

The finished opening should:

• Fit closely around the stoma

• Avoid rubbing against it

• Avoid constricting it

• Minimise exposed peristomal skin

• Follow the actual shape of the stoma where required

An opening that is too large may leave surrounding skin exposed to stoma output and increase the risk of:

• Leakage

• Redness

• Soreness

• Skin irritation

• Reduced adhesive security

An opening that is too small may rub against or constrict the stoma.

AF300™ filter

Moderma Flex 22300 incorporates Hollister's AF300™ filter.

The filter is designed to allow intestinal gas to leave the pouch gradually while helping reduce unwanted odour.

Applying the pouch:

Wash and dry your hands.

Measure the stoma carefully.

Mark the required opening on the SoftFlex™ barrier.

Cut the opening according to the measured size and shape of the stoma.

Do not cut beyond 55mm.

Gently remove the existing pouch while supporting the surrounding skin.

Clean the peristomal area according to the normal stoma-care routine.

Ensure the skin is clean and appropriately dry.

Remove the protective backing from the adhesive.

Centre the prepared opening carefully around the stoma.

Apply the SoftFlex™ barrier to the skin.

Press gently but firmly around the stoma.

Smooth the adhesive outward to establish secure contact.

Check for:

• Folds

• Creases

• Areas where the barrier has not fully contacted the skin

Apply gentle hand pressure to help establish the seal.

Changing the pouch:
