Cutimed Sorbact Ribbon – 2cm × 50cm – Box of 20

Cutimed Sorbact Ribbon is a sterile bacteria- and fungi-binding ribbon gauze with a DACC-coated wound contact surface, designed primarily for the management of exuding cavity wounds, fistulas and other deep wounds. It can also be used in skin folds for the management of fungal infections such as intertrigo.

The dressing uses Sorbact Technology, which physically binds bacteria and fungi to its hydrophobic DACC-coated surface. The microorganisms remain attached to the dressing and are removed from the wound when the dressing is changed. No antimicrobial substance is released into the wound.

Cutimed Sorbact Ribbon is intended for the management of clean, contaminated, colonised or infected exuding wounds, including:

• Cavity wounds
• Fistulas
• Surgical wounds
• Traumatic wounds
• Pressure ulcers
• Diabetic foot ulcers

• Other superficial or deep exuding wounds

It can also be placed in skin folds for the management of fungal infections such as intertrigo.

Composition and mode of action:

Cutimed Sorbact Ribbon consists of a green cotton ribbon gauze coated with dialkylcarbamoyl chloride (DACC).

DACC gives the dressing a strongly hydrophobic surface. Many wound-related bacteria and fungi are also hydrophobic and therefore bind to the dressing when they come into direct contact with it.

The microorganisms remain attached to the dressing and are physically removed when the dressing is changed.

Unlike silver, iodine, PHMB and other conventional antimicrobial dressings, Cutimed Sorbact Ribbon does not release an antimicrobial agent into the wound. Development of bacterial or fungal resistance to the physical binding mechanism is therefore not expected.

How to use:

Prepare and clean the wound and surrounding skin according to the recommended wound-care procedure.

Select an appropriate length of Cutimed Sorbact Ribbon.

If necessary, the dressing can be cut across using an aseptic technique. Do not cut the dressing directly over the wound.

Apply the dressing so that it is in direct contact with the complete wound surface, as direct contact is required for microorganisms to bind to the DACC-coated fibres.

For cavity wounds or fistulas:

• Gently line or loosely fill the cavity with the ribbon
• Do not tightly pack the wound
• Always leave part of the ribbon visible outside the cavity or fistula to allow complete removal
• If the ribbon has been cut, leave the cut end outside the wound to reduce the risk of loose threads remaining in the wound

Cover with an appropriate secondary dressing selected according to the level of wound exudate, such as a foam dressing, absorbent pad or gelling-fibre dressing.

Dressing change frequency:

The frequency of dressing changes should be determined by:

• Amount of wound exudate
• Condition of the wound
• Infection status
• Condition of the surrounding skin
• Clinical assessment

When the clinical condition allows, Cutimed Sorbact Ribbon may remain in place for up to 7 days.

If the dressing adheres to the wound, moisten or soak it before removal to help avoid disruption of the wound bed and surrounding tissue.

Use for fungal infections in skin folds:

When used for fungal infections such as intertrigo, the dressing should be placed in direct contact with the affected skin.

The manufacturer advises changing the dressing once daily when treating fungal infection in skin folds and continuing treatment for 2–3 days after symptoms have resolved to help reduce recurrence.

Do not use antifungal creams or ointments underneath the dressing because fatty products can interfere with the Sorbact binding mechanism.

Important information:

There are no known general contraindications to Cutimed Sorbact Ribbon, but the manufacturer's warnings and precautions must be followed.

Do not use in people with a known hypersensitivity to any component of the dressing, including DACC or cotton.

Do not use Cutimed Sorbact Ribbon together with fatty or oily products such as ointments, creams or lipid-containing solutions, as these can impair the hydrophobic binding mechanism and reduce the dressing's ability to bind microorganisms.

Do not tightly pack cavities or fistulas.

When using the ribbon in a cavity or fistula, always ensure that part of the dressing remains outside the wound so that it can be completely removed.

Cutimed Sorbact Ribbon does not contain an X-ray detectable thread and must not be used in open surgery.

The dressing is MR safe.

Remove the dressing before radiation therapy if it lies within the treatment field. A new dressing may be applied after treatment if required.

Do not reuse or re-sterilise. Do not use if the sterile pouch is open or damaged.

If the wound deteriorates, fails to improve or signs of significant infection develop, seek assessment from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
