Hollister CeraPlus™ Ostomy Skin Barrier – 10cm × 10cm – Box of 5 (Ref: 8900)

£22.40
In stock

Hollister CeraPlus™ Ostomy Skin Barrier is a 10cm × 10cm ceramide-infused hydrocolloid skin barrier sheet designed to help protect peristomal skin and improve the fit of an ostomy appliance.

Unlike a conventional pre-cut flange or baseplate, the CeraPlus Skin Barrier does not have a starter hole. The sheet can be cut and customised to the required shape and opening, making it useful where additional skin protection, contour filling or a personalised barrier shape is required.

The CeraPlus™ formulation contains ceramide, a naturally occurring component of human skin that plays an important role in maintaining the skin's natural moisture barrier.

Key features:

  • Hollister CeraPlus™ Ostomy Skin Barrier

  • Reference 8900

  • 10cm × 10cm

  • Ceramide-infused formulation

  • Extended-wear hydrocolloid skin barrier

  • Helps protect peristomal skin

  • Helps absorb moisture

  • Can help improve the fit of an ostomy appliance

  • No starter hole

  • Can be cut to the required shape

  • Can be customised around the stoma

  • No adhesive tape border

  • Suitable as an ostomy skin-protection accessory

  • Not made with natural rubber latex

  • Phthalate-free

  • Single use

  • Box of 5

What is CeraPlus Skin Barrier used for?

The CeraPlus Skin Barrier is an ostomy accessory designed to provide an additional protective hydrocolloid layer between the skin and an ostomy appliance.

It may be useful where:

  • Additional peristomal skin protection is required

  • The main ostomy barrier needs additional support

  • The skin surface is uneven

  • A customised barrier shape is required

  • A larger area of skin needs covering

  • Moisture around the stoma needs to be managed

  • A conventional pre-shaped accessory does not provide the required coverage

The exact use should be based on the individual's stoma, skin condition and pouching system.

10cm × 10cm customisable sheet

Reference 8900 is supplied as a:

10cm × 10cm square skin barrier

There is no pre-cut central opening or starter hole.

This allows the sheet to be customised according to the user's requirements.

It may be:

  • Cut to create an appropriate stoma opening

  • Trimmed to a smaller overall size

  • Shaped around irregular contours

  • Cut into sections where only localised protection is required

The opening should be prepared carefully so that the final appliance fits appropriately around the stoma.

No starter hole

An important distinction with Ref 8900 is that the barrier is supplied as a solid sheet.

There is no:

  • Pre-cut stoma opening

  • Cut-to-fit starter opening

  • Mechanical pouch coupling

It should therefore not be confused with a Hollister Conform 2™ CeraPlus baseplate.

CeraPlus™ ceramide-infused formulation

CeraPlus products incorporate ceramide.

Ceramides occur naturally within the skin and contribute to the skin's protective moisture barrier.

Hollister's CeraPlus formulation is designed to help:

  • Protect the skin's natural moisture barrier

  • Maintain healthy peristomal skin

  • Provide secure hydrocolloid adhesion

  • Absorb moisture where appropriate

Maintaining healthy peristomal skin is important because repeated exposure to stoma output, moisture and adhesive removal can contribute to irritation and skin damage.

Extended-wear hydrocolloid

The CeraPlus Skin Barrier uses an extended-wear hydrocolloid formulation.

Hydrocolloid ostomy barriers are designed to:

  • Adhere to the skin

  • Absorb moisture

  • Conform to body contours

  • Help protect the skin from stoma output

  • Provide a suitable surface beneath an ostomy appliance

Actual wear time depends on individual circumstances and the appliance used.

Helps improve appliance fit

The barrier sheet can be customised to help improve the interface between the body and an ostomy appliance.

This may be useful around:

  • Folds

  • Creases

  • Shallow dips

  • Irregular abdominal contours

  • Areas requiring additional adhesive coverage

However, the sheet should not be used simply to conceal persistent leakage.

Repeated leakage may indicate that the:

  • Stoma opening is incorrectly sized

  • Barrier profile is unsuitable

  • Convexity requirements have changed

  • Pouching system requires reassessment

Persistent leakage should be discussed with a Stoma Care Nurse.

CeraPlus Skin Barrier versus CeraPlus Barrier Ring

These products have different formats.

CeraPlus Skin Barrier – Ref 8900

  • 10cm × 10cm sheet

  • No starter hole

  • Can be cut into almost any required shape

  • Provides a relatively large area of skin protection

CeraPlus Barrier Ring

  • Preformed circular hydrocolloid ring

  • Designed primarily to mould closely around the stoma

  • Helps fill small gaps, folds and uneven contours

  • Available in Standard and Slim configurations

The 10cm × 10cm sheet offers greater flexibility where a conventional ring is not the most suitable shape.

CeraPlus Skin Barrier versus Barrier Extender

The products should also not be confused with CeraPlus Barrier Extenders.

CeraPlus Skin Barrier 8900

  • Applied as a customised protective hydrocolloid barrier

  • Can sit beneath an ostomy appliance

  • No predefined shape or hole

CeraPlus Barrier Extenders 79402

  • Curved adhesive strips

  • Applied around the outer edge of an existing skin barrier

  • Designed primarily to reduce edge lifting and increase fixation

How to prepare the barrier

Always follow Hollister's Instructions for Use and the individual's stoma-care plan.

In general:

  1. Remove the existing ostomy appliance.

  2. Clean the skin according to the normal stoma-care routine.

  3. Ensure the skin is clean and dry.

  4. Measure the stoma or area requiring protection.

  5. Mark the required opening or shape on the CeraPlus Skin Barrier.

  6. Cut the sheet carefully to the required dimensions.

  7. Remove the release backing.

  8. Position the barrier on the skin as required.

  9. Smooth gently to establish good skin contact.

  10. Apply the ostomy appliance over the barrier according to the appliance instructions.

Avoid leaving unnecessary gaps around the stoma that could expose skin to output.

Cutting around the stoma

Where the sheet is being used directly around the stoma, the opening should fit:

  • Closely around the stoma

  • Without constricting it

  • Without rubbing against the stoma

  • With as little exposed peristomal skin as practical

An opening that is too large can leave skin exposed to stoma output.

An opening that is too small may rub or place pressure on the stoma.

Removing the barrier

The CeraPlus Skin Barrier should be removed gently during the appropriate appliance change.

Support the surrounding skin and peel the hydrocolloid away slowly.

An appropriate ostomy adhesive remover may be used where required and compatible.

After removal:

  • Inspect the skin

  • Clean according to the normal routine

  • Dry thoroughly

  • Apply a fresh barrier if required
