IODOFLEX Cadexomer Iodine – Paste Dressing
IODOFLEX is a sterile cadexomer iodine paste dressing for chronic exuding wounds, particularly where slough, debris and wound bioburden are delaying healing. The dressing absorbs wound fluid and unwanted material while gradually releasing 0.9% elemental iodine, providing sustained broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity.
Its dual action helps manage excess exudate and remove slough, debris and bacteria from the wound bed, supporting wound-bed preparation. IODOFLEX can also be used on infected wounds as part of an appropriate wound-management plan and may be used under compression therapy where clinically indicated.

Suitable for:
IODOFLEX is intended for the topical treatment of chronic exuding wounds, including wounds where infection or increased bioburden is a barrier to healing.
It may be suitable for wounds such as:
- Leg ulcers
- Pressure ulcers
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Chronic exuding wounds
- Sloughy wounds
- Locally infected or critically colonised wounds
It is particularly useful where the wound requires a combination of exudate management, desloughing and antimicrobial treatment.
Composition:
IODOFLEX consists of a cadexomer iodine paste containing 0.9% elemental iodine, supplied between removable carrier gauze layers.
The cadexomer matrix absorbs wound fluid, causing the iodine to be released gradually into the wound environment.
How to use:
Clean the wound and surrounding area using water or sterile saline according to the recommended wound-care procedure.
Do not completely dry the wound surface before application.
Remove the carrier gauze from both sides of the IODOFLEX paste dressing.
Cut or mould the dressing to the shape of the wound and apply it directly to the wound bed.
Cover completely with an appropriate secondary dressing. Compression bandaging may be applied where clinically appropriate.
Any unused portion of an opened dressing should be discarded.
Dressing change frequency:
IODOFLEX should be changed when it has become saturated with wound fluid and the available iodine has been released. This is indicated by the dressing losing its characteristic brown colour.
Manufacturer guidance states that this will usually require changing the dressing two to three times per week.
For heavily exuding wounds, daily dressing changes may be required.
To remove the dressing, gently irrigate with water or saline. If necessary, allow it to soak for a few minutes before removal.

Important information:
IODOFLEX should not be used on dry necrotic wound beds.
Do not use in people with a known sensitivity to iodine or any of the dressing components.
UK wound-care guidance advises against use in:
- Children
- Pregnant women
- Breastfeeding women
- People with thyroid disorders
- People with significant renal impairment
- People receiving lithium therapy
Iodine can be absorbed systemically, particularly when treating large wounds, so caution is required where substantial quantities are used.
A single application should not exceed 50g, and no more than 150g should be used in one week.
A single continuous course of cadexomer iodine treatment should not exceed 3 months, and antimicrobial treatment should be reviewed regularly to confirm that continued use remains clinically appropriate.
If a wound is clinically infected, worsening, causing systemic symptoms or failing to heal as expected, it should be assessed by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
