LoFric® Hydro-Kit™ is an all-in-one hydrophilic intermittent catheter kit with an integrated 1000ml urine collection bag and sterile salt solution for activation, designed for convenient catheterisation when direct access to a toilet is difficult or unavailable.

The complete system allows the user to catheterise and collect urine directly into the attached bag, making it particularly useful for:

What is LoFric Hydro-Kit used for?

LoFric Hydro-Kit is intended for intermittent urinary catheterisation.

During intermittent catheterisation, the catheter is temporarily inserted through the urethra into the bladder to allow urine to drain.

After the bladder has emptied, the catheter is removed and discarded.

Unlike a standard intermittent catheter, Hydro-Kit has its own integrated urine collection bag, so urine does not need to drain directly into a toilet or separate container.

This can make catheterisation easier where toilet access or positioning is difficult.

Integrated 1000ml collection bag

Each LoFric Hydro-Kit incorporates a 1000ml urine collection bag.

The bag has a printed volume scale to provide an approximate indication of the volume collected.

The integrated bag means that a separate urine collection bag does not normally need to be connected.

This can be particularly useful:

• When travelling

• In vehicles

• From a wheelchair

• From a bed

• In toilets without suitable accessibility

• Where direct drainage into a toilet is impractical

Loop for hanging or holding

The collection bag includes a loop that can be used to:

• Hold the bag

• Hang it in a suitable position

The long neck of the Hydro-Kit also allows the bag to be positioned conveniently, including hanging it over the knee during catheterisation.

The bag should always be positioned so urine can drain freely from the bladder.

Emptying the collection bag

After catheterisation, the collection bag can be torn open at the designated area to allow emptying.

Dispose of the used kit appropriately after use.

LoFric Hydro-Kit is intended for single use only.

Catheter can be separated from the bag

The catheter can be separated from the integrated collection bag if necessary.

This provides additional flexibility where the user does not require the collection bag for a particular catheterisation.

Always follow Wellspect's Instructions for Use when separating components.

Instant activation

LoFric Hydro-Kit incorporates its own sterile salt solution.

To activate the catheter, the solution compartment is squeezed according to the manufacturer's instructions.

The solution activates the hydrophilic coating, preparing the catheter for use.

There is no need to:

• Find a separate clean water source

• Carry activation water

• Apply separate lubricating gel

This makes the Hydro-Kit particularly suitable for catheterisation away from home.

Urotonic™ Surface Technology

LoFric catheters incorporate Wellspect's Urotonic™ Surface Technology.

Once activated, the hydrophilic surface binds liquid and creates a smooth catheter surface designed to minimise friction during:

• Insertion

• Catheterisation

• Withdrawal

The coating is designed to remain smooth throughout the catheterisation process.

Textured insertion grip

LoFric Hydro-Kit incorporates a textured insertion grip.

The grip provides improved handling and control while allowing the catheter to be advanced without directly touching the catheter shaft.

This supports a non-touch catheterisation technique.

Nelaton tip

Most Hydro-Kit variants use a standard Nelaton tip.

A Nelaton catheter has a:

• Straight shaft

• Soft rounded catheter tip

Nelaton versions are available in:

• Paediatric 20cm

• Female 20cm

• Male 40cm

Tiemann / Coudé tip

The Male Tiemann variants have a slightly curved and tapered catheter tip.

These are sometimes described as Coudé catheters.

Tiemann catheters may be recommended where a healthcare professional considers a curved tip more suitable for the user's anatomy or catheterisation requirements.

Because the curved tip needs to be correctly orientated during insertion, a Tiemann catheter should only be used where the user has been specifically advised and trained to use this type of catheter.

Do not substitute a Tiemann catheter for a Nelaton catheter simply because the CH size is the same.

Male 40cm range

The standard Male Nelaton Hydro-Kit has a 40cm catheter length.

The Male Tiemann Hydro-Kit uses a 40cm catheter with curved Tiemann/Coudé tip.

Current sizes are:

Understanding CH sizes

CH stands for Charrière, also commonly referred to as French gauge or Fr.

It indicates the external catheter diameter.

Approximate diameters are:

• CH08 = 2.7mm

• CH10 = 3.3mm

• CH12 = 4.0mm

• CH14 = 4.7mm

• CH16 = 5.3mm

• CH18 = 6.0mm

A higher CH number means a larger catheter diameter.

Always use the exact catheter type and CH size prescribed or recommended by the healthcare professional.

Do not change catheter size or tip configuration without appropriate advice.

How to use LoFric Hydro-Kit

Always follow Wellspect's Instructions for Use and the catheterisation technique provided by your healthcare professional.

In general:

1. Wash and dry your hands.

2. Check that the individual package is intact.

3. Squeeze the sterile salt-solution compartment to activate the catheter.

4. Open the package using the integrated loops.

5. Position or hang the collection bag appropriately.

6. Use the textured insertion grip to handle the catheter.

7. Avoid touching the catheter surface unnecessarily.

8. Insert the catheter gently according to your trained technique.

9. Continue until urine begins to flow.

10. Allow urine to drain into the integrated collection bag.

11. Ensure the bladder empties completely.

12. Slowly withdraw the catheter when drainage has finished.

13. Empty the collection bag as appropriate.

14. Dispose of the complete kit after use.

Do not reuse the catheter.

Smooth drainage eyelets

LoFric Hydro-Kit has smooth catheter eyelets near the tip.

When the catheter enters the bladder, urine passes through these openings and into the catheter before draining into the collection bag.

The catheter should be inserted sufficiently for the drainage eyelets to be positioned inside the bladder.

Single use

Each LoFric Hydro-Kit is intended for one catheterisation only.

After use:

• Do not wash the catheter

• Do not attempt to reactivate it

• Do not reuse the catheter or collection bag

• Dispose of the complete used kit appropriately

Use a new kit for each catheterisation.
