Coloplast Assura® Two-Piece Ostomy Baseplates are flat, cut-to-fit adhesive baseplates designed for use with compatible Assura® two-piece ostomy pouches.

The Assura® system uses a mechanical coupling system, allowing the pouch to be securely attached to the baseplate. An audible ‘click’ confirms that the pouch has been locked into position.

Because the pouch and baseplate are separate components, the pouch can be removed and replaced while the adhesive baseplate remains on the skin where appropriate. This allows the pouch to be changed more frequently without necessarily removing the skin barrier at every change.

The Assura® baseplate uses Coloplast's spiral adhesive technology, designed to provide secure adhesion while absorbing moisture from the skin and helping protect the peristomal area.

Suitable for:

Depending on the compatible pouch selected, the Assura® Two-Piece system can be used for:

  • Colostomy

  • Ileostomy

  • Urostomy

  • Users who prefer a two-piece rather than one-piece ostomy appliance

  • Users who want to change the pouch while leaving the baseplate in place

  • Stomas requiring a cut-to-fit opening

  • Users who require a secure mechanical pouch-to-baseplate connection

Choosing the correct size:

Two different measurements need to be considered when selecting an Assura® baseplate.

1. Stoma size

This determines which baseplate can be cut to fit the stoma:

  • 13141: 15–35mm stoma

  • 13151: 15–45mm stoma

  • 13161: 15–55mm stoma

2. Coupling size

The 40mm, 50mm or 60mm measurement refers to the mechanical coupling between the pouch and baseplate.

It is not the diameter of the stoma.

The coupling size of the pouch must match the coupling size of the baseplate exactly.

For example:

  • A 40mm Assura pouch requires a 40mm Assura baseplate

  • A 50mm Assura pouch requires a 50mm Assura baseplate

  • A 60mm Assura pouch requires a 60mm Assura baseplate

Directions:

Measure the stoma carefully before preparing the baseplate.

Using an appropriate stoma measuring guide, mark the required opening on the adhesive baseplate.

Carefully enlarge the starter opening to fit the individual stoma.

The opening should fit closely around the stoma without touching or constricting it.

Clean the skin around the stoma according to the normal stoma-care routine and ensure that it is appropriately dry.

Remove the protective backing from the baseplate.

Centre the opening over the stoma and gently press the adhesive onto the skin.

Smooth the adhesive around the stoma and across the surrounding skin to establish secure contact.

Align the coupling ring of the compatible Assura® pouch with the coupling ring on the baseplate.

Press the pouch onto the baseplate.

The pouch can be rotated into the preferred position before it is locked.

Secure the coupling. An audible ‘click’ confirms that the pouch has been locked onto the baseplate.

Check around the complete coupling to ensure that the pouch is securely attached.

Important information:

  • These products are baseplates only

  • The compatible Assura® pouch is supplied separately

  • Always ensure that the pouch and baseplate coupling sizes match

  • Coupling size is not the same as stoma diameter

  • Measure the stoma before cutting the opening

  • The opening should fit closely without constricting the stoma

  • An opening that is too large can expose peristomal skin to stoma output

  • Monitor the surrounding skin for redness, soreness, maceration or breakdown

  • Persistent leakage may indicate that the opening size, appliance type or degree of convexity requires reassessment

  • These standard Assura baseplates should not be confused with Assura Soft Seal Convex baseplates, which are a separate product range

  • Seek advice from a Stoma Care Nurse if leakage, poor appliance fit or peristomal skin problems persist

  • Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for use

Coloplast Assura® Two-Piece Ostomy Baseplates combine a skin-friendly spiral adhesive with a secure mechanical coupling system, allowing compatible Assura pouches to be attached, rotated and changed independently of the adhesive baseplate.

Always ensure that the pouch and baseplate have the same coupling size. Persistent leakage, soreness or difficulty obtaining a secure appliance fit should be assessed by a Stoma Care Nurse or other appropriate healthcare professional.
