Otovent Autoinflation Device – 1 Nose Piece + 5 Balloons

Otovent is a drug-free autoinflation device designed to help equalise negative pressure in the middle ear. It works by inflating a specially pressurised balloon through the nose, which helps open the Eustachian tube and allows pressure in the middle ear to equalise.

It is commonly used for glue ear (otitis media with effusion), Eustachian tube dysfunction and pressure-related ear discomfort, including symptoms associated with air travel.

Directions:

Attach an Otovent balloon securely to the nose piece.

Hold the round part of the nose piece firmly against one nostril and close the other nostril with your finger.

Take a deep breath, close your mouth and blow through the nostril to inflate the balloon until it is approximately the size of a grapefruit (10–12cm).

Repeat using the other nostril.

Successful equalisation may be felt as a pressure change or a small “pop” or “click” in the ear.

For the treatment of glue ear, Otovent is normally used at least 3 times daily initially. After approximately one week, it can be used at least twice daily. A normal treatment period is around 2–3 weeks, after which further use should be discussed with a healthcare professional.

• Suitable for adults and children aged 3 years and over

• Children should always use Otovent under adult supervision

• Do not use during acute otitis media (acute middle-ear infection)

• Do not use while suffering from an upper respiratory tract infection

• Do not use if you have a latex allergy without first seeking medical advice

• Stop using the device and seek medical advice if signs of an allergic reaction occur

• Temporary ear discomfort or dizziness can sometimes occur during inflation

• Do not exceed 20 inflations per balloon
