Polytar Scalp Shampoo is a medicated coal tar shampoo used for the treatment of scalp conditions including psoriasis, seborrhoeic dermatitis, eczema and dandruff. It contains Coal Tar Solution 4% w/w, which helps reduce scaling, inflammation and itching of the scalp.

Directions:

For adults and children aged 12 years and over:

Use once or twice a week for 4 weeks.

1. Wet the hair thoroughly.

2. Apply enough shampoo to produce an abundant lather covering the scalp, hair and any adjacent affected areas.

3. Massage well into the scalp using the fingertips.

4. Rinse thoroughly.

5. Repeat the application and rinse again.

The shampoo should remain in contact with the scalp for a total of 3–5 minutes across the two applications.

Use for longer than 4 weeks only on the advice of a doctor.

Important information:

• For external use only

• Do not use in children under 12 years

• Do not use if you are allergic to coal tar or any of the other ingredients

• Do not use on infected, open or damaged skin

• Do not use on pus-filled blisters or acute pustular skin conditions

• Avoid contact with the eyes

• Rinse thoroughly with clean water if the shampoo enters the eyes

• Stop using if significant skin irritation develops

• Coal tar may increase sensitivity to sunlight and sunbeds

• Avoid strong sunlight or sunbeds after treatment where possible

• If exposure cannot be avoided, use protective clothing and suitable sunscreen

• The product may stain skin or clothing

• It can rarely cause a temporary change in hair colour

• Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are taking medicines that increase sensitivity to sunlight

• Do not use during the first trimester of pregnancy

• If pregnant or breastfeeding, seek medical advice before use

• If used while breastfeeding, ensure all coal tar is washed from the breast before feeding

• Contains benzyl alcohol, which may cause allergic reactions or mild local irritation

• Contains fragrance allergens which may cause allergic reactions

• Fire hazard: fabrics that have been in contact with the product can burn more easily

• Do not smoke or go near naked flames

• Washing clothing and bedding may reduce product build-up but may not completely remove the fire risk

• Store below 25°C
