Prosys® P2000 is a sterile, drainable 2-litre urinary night drainage bag with a 90cm inlet tube, designed for overnight urine collection and longer-term drainage where a larger-capacity bag is required.

The bag incorporates a slide outlet tap, non-return valve and needle-free sample port connector and can be used as part of an appropriate catheter drainage system.

2-litre capacity

The Prosys® P2000 provides a 2-litre collection capacity, making it suitable for overnight use when a standard daytime leg bag may not provide sufficient capacity.

Using an appropriate night drainage system can help avoid repeatedly waking to empty a smaller leg bag.

The bag should nevertheless be checked regularly and should not be allowed to become excessively full.

90cm inlet tube

The P2000 incorporates a 90cm inlet tube, providing sufficient length for the drainage bag to be positioned appropriately beside or below the bed.

Correct positioning is essential for effective gravity drainage.

The bag should always remain below the level of the bladder, and the tubing should be positioned so that urine can flow freely.

Avoid:

• Kinking the tubing

• Twisting the tubing

• Trapping the tubing beneath the patient or bedding

• Excessive loops that may interfere with drainage

• Allowing the drainage bag to sit above bladder level

• Pulling or tension on the urinary catheter

Slide outlet tap

The P2000 version incorporates a slide outlet tap for emptying the drainage bag.

The tap allows the collected urine to be released into a toilet or appropriate receptacle without disconnecting the drainage system.

After emptying, ensure the tap is completely closed before repositioning the bag.

A separate Prosys® night bag with a lever tap is available under reference P2000-LT. This is a different variant and should not be confused with the P2000 slide-tap version.

Non-return valve

An integrated non-return valve helps reduce the backward flow of collected urine through the drainage system.

This is particularly important when using a larger-capacity drainage bag overnight.

Correct positioning of the bag below bladder level is still required; the non-return valve does not replace appropriate drainage-bag positioning.

Needle-free sample port

The drainage system incorporates a needle-free sample port connector.

This enables an appropriately trained healthcare professional to obtain a urine sample from the drainage system when clinically required without using a needle to puncture the tubing.

Urine samples should be taken using appropriate aseptic technique and according to local clinical procedures.

Using as an overnight link drainage system

Where clinically appropriate, a night drainage bag may be connected to a compatible daytime leg bag rather than disconnecting the leg bag from the catheter.

This creates a link drainage system that allows urine to drain from the leg bag into the larger 2-litre night bag.

Maintaining a closed system can help reduce unnecessary catheter connections and disconnections.

When using a link drainage system:

• Ensure the night bag is securely connected

• Open the leg bag outlet where required by the system

• Keep the night bag below bladder level

• Ensure both drainage tubes remain free from kinks

• Ensure the tubing cannot become trapped beneath bedding

• Position the bag securely on an appropriate stand or hanger

• Avoid placing the drainage bag directly on the floor

Always follow the instructions supplied with the individual catheter, leg bag and night drainage system.

Using directly with a catheter

Sterile drainable 2-litre bags may also be connected directly to an indwelling urinary catheter where this forms part of the patient's catheter-care plan.

This arrangement may be particularly relevant to people who are continuously cared for in bed and do not routinely use a daytime leg bag.

The appropriate drainage system should be selected following clinical assessment.

Directions:

Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before handling the catheter or drainage system.

Prepare the Prosys® night bag and ensure the slide drainage tap is completely closed.

Remove the protective cap from the connector without touching the connection surface unnecessarily.

Connect the drainage bag according to the instructions supplied with the catheter or leg bag.

Position the night bag below bladder level using an appropriate drainage-bag stand or support.

Arrange the 90cm tubing so that it runs freely without kinks, twisting or compression.

Check that urine is draining correctly into the bag.

Avoid unnecessary disconnection of the drainage system.

Emptying the bag:

Wash and dry your hands.

Position the outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle.

Avoid allowing the outlet to touch the toilet, container or other surfaces.

Operate the slide tap to open the drainage outlet.

Allow the urine to drain completely.

Close the slide tap securely after emptying.

Clean the outlet according to the manufacturer's instructions or individual catheter-care plan if required.

Wash your hands after handling the drainage system.

Changing the night bag:

The P2000 is a sterile reusable/drainable night drainage bag intended for periodic replacement rather than daily single-use disposal.

The replacement interval should follow the manufacturer's instructions and the patient's individual catheter-care plan. In UK catheter formularies, sterile drainable night bags of this type are commonly managed as 5–7 day drainage bags when maintained as part of an intact closed system.

The bag should be replaced sooner if:

• It becomes damaged

• Leakage occurs

• The drainage tap does not close securely

• The tubing becomes damaged or obstructed

• The system becomes contaminated

• The closed drainage system has been compromised
