Choosing the correct opening

Measure the stoma carefully using an appropriate stoma measuring guide.

The finished opening should:

• Fit closely around the stoma

• Avoid rubbing against the stoma

• Avoid constricting it

• Minimise exposed peristomal skin

• Follow the actual shape of the stoma where required

An opening that is too large may allow ileostomy output to contact exposed skin.

Because ileostomy output contains digestive enzymes, repeated contact with exposed peristomal skin can cause:

An opening that is too small may rub against or constrict the stoma.

Flat baseplate

Reference 19004 has a flat baseplate.

Applying the appliance:

Wash and dry your hands.
