    One-piece system

    SenSura® is a one-piece ostomy appliance.

    A one-piece system can provide:

    SenSura® double-layer adhesive

    A pre-cut pouch should not be selected merely because its opening is approximately the correct size.

    If the stoma falls between available pre-cut diameters or changes size, a cut-to-fit SenSura® appliance may be more appropriate.

    An opening that is too large can expose peristomal skin to ileostomy output, which can cause irritation and contribute to leakage.

    An opening that is too small can contact or constrict the stoma.

    Directions:

    Measure the stoma before selecting the appliance, particularly if its size has recently changed.

    Check that the selected pre-cut opening corresponds appropriately to the stoma.

    Wash your hands.

    Gently remove the existing appliance according to the normal stoma-care routine.

    Clean the skin around the stoma as advised by your Stoma Care Nurse.

    Ensure the surrounding skin is appropriately clean and dry.

    Check that the Hide-Away outlet is completely closed.

    Remove the protective backing from the adhesive.

    Centre the pre-cut opening carefully over the stoma.

    Apply the adhesive around the stoma and press gently but firmly against the skin.

    Smooth the adhesive outward to establish complete contact.

    Check around the entire adhesive area for:

    • Folds

    • Gaps

    • Creases

    • Areas where the adhesive has not contacted the skin

    Hold the adhesive gently against the body for a short period to help establish a secure seal.

    Emptying the pouch:

    Drain the pouch before it becomes excessively full.

    A drainable ileostomy pouch should generally be emptied regularly because excessive contents increase the weight placed on the adhesive.

    Sit or stand appropriately over a toilet or suitable receptacle.

    Release the Hide-Away outlet from its folded position.

    Open the outlet according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    Direct the outlet into the toilet.

    Allow the pouch contents to drain.

    Clean the end of the outlet as required.

    Close the outlet securely.

    Fold the outlet back into its Hide-Away position.

    Check that it is securely stored before repositioning clothing.

    Changing the pouch:

    The frequency of appliance changes varies between individuals and depends on factors including:

    • Stoma output

    • Skin condition

    • Adhesive performance

    • Activity

    • Perspiration

    • Individual stoma characteristics

    The appliance should be changed if the seal begins to fail or leakage occurs.

    Do not repeatedly reinforce a failing seal instead of changing the appliance where output is beginning to reach the surrounding skin.
