Understanding Deep Convexity

SenSura® Mio Convex is available in different levels of convexity.

Soft Convex provides gentler support.

Light Convex is designed for stomas around skin level that require moderate assistance to protrude.

Deep Convex provides the greatest support and is designed for stomas that sit below skin level or within a deep inward area.

Deep convexity creates firmer pressure around the stoma to help improve protrusion and direct output into the pouch.

Because convex appliances exert pressure on the peristomal area, the appropriate level of convexity should be selected following assessment by a Stoma Care Nurse or other appropriately trained healthcare professional.

Choosing the correct opening:

For an adjustable opening, prepare the baseplate according to the manufacturer's instructions so that it fits closely around the stoma.

For a pre-cut pouch, confirm that the opening is suitable for the current stoma diameter.

Remove the protective backing.

Centre the opening carefully over the stoma.

Apply the baseplate to the skin and press gently but firmly around the stoma and across the adhesive area.

Smooth the adhesive onto the surrounding skin to establish full contact.

Ensure that the drainable outlet is securely closed before use.

Emptying the pouch:

Empty the pouch before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Position the outlet over the toilet or suitable receptacle.

Open the drainable outlet and allow the contents to empty.

Clean the outlet as appropriate.

Refold and securely close the outlet according to the manufacturer's instructions.
