Coloplast SenSura® Mio Convex Deep 1-Piece Urostomy Pouches are one-piece convex urinary stoma appliances designed for continuous collection and drainage of urine from a urostomy.

The Deep Convex baseplate provides substantial convex support and is specifically designed for stomas with an opening below skin level that require significant help to protrude into the pouch, as well as stomas situated within deep inward areas or pronounced creases around the stoma.

SenSura® Mio Convex Deep combines BodyFit Technology® with integrated flexlines, providing stability immediately around the stoma while retaining flexibility so the appliance can move with the body.

The pouch and Deep Convex adhesive baseplate are permanently joined, forming a complete one-piece urostomy appliance. The pouch is drainable for repeated emptying of urine throughout the day and can be connected to a suitable overnight drainage system.

What is Deep Convex?

SenSura® Mio Convex Deep provides the strongest convex profile within the standard SenSura® Mio Soft, Light and Deep Convex range.

Convexity applies controlled support to the area around the stoma. This can help a stoma that sits below skin level protrude more effectively into the pouch and can improve contact between the adhesive and a deep inward body profile.

Coloplast describes Deep Convex as suitable for:

• Stomas with an opening below skin level

• Stomas needing substantial help to protrude

• Deep inward areas

• Pronounced creases around the stoma

• More challenging inward peristomal profiles

Deep Convex should be selected according to the individual stoma and surrounding body profile.

Soft, Light or Deep Convex?

SenSura® Mio Convex is available in different convex profiles.

Convex Soft

Provides gentle support.

Generally designed for stomas that protrude above skin level but where minor folds or creases around the stoma make additional support useful.

Convex Light

Provides moderate support.

Designed mainly for stomas approximately level with the skin and shallow inward areas.

Convex Deep

Provides more substantial support.

Designed particularly for:

• Stomas below skin level

• Retracted stomas

• Deep inward areas

• Pronounced creases

• Stomas requiring significant help to protrude

The strongest convexity is not automatically the best option. The appropriate level should be selected according to the individual stoma and body profile.

Integrated flexlines

SenSura® Mio Convex incorporates integrated flexlines within the convex baseplate.

These are designed to provide:

• Stability immediately around the stoma

• Controlled convex support

• Flexibility away from the stoma

• Comfortable bending

• Adaptation during body movement

• Secure contact with the skin

The flexlines allow the convex shell to bend around the stoma rather than through the centre of the convex area, helping retain the required support while the user moves.

BodyFit Technology®

SenSura® Mio incorporates Coloplast's BodyFit Technology®.

The elastic adhesive is designed to adapt to individual abdominal contours and follow natural body movement.

This helps the appliance remain flexible during:

Maintaining close contact between the adhesive and skin is particularly important with inward body profiles, where gaps can contribute to urine leakage beneath the baseplate.

One-piece appliance

SenSura® Mio Convex Deep urostomy is a one-piece system.

The pouch and Deep Convex adhesive baseplate are permanently joined.

There is:

• No separate pouch

• No separate baseplate

• No mechanical coupling ring

When the appliance requires changing, the complete pouch and adhesive baseplate are removed and replaced together.

This provides a flexible, relatively low-profile convex appliance.

Continuous urine collection

A urostomy continuously produces urine, so the pouch is designed to remain drainable throughout normal wear.

Urine can be emptied repeatedly without removing the appliance.

The pouch should be emptied regularly rather than being allowed to become excessively full or heavy.

Regular emptying helps:

• Reduce weight pulling on the adhesive

• Reduce pressure on the convex baseplate

• Reduce bulk beneath clothing

• Maintain appliance security

Multi-chamber design

SenSura® Mio urostomy pouches incorporate multiple internal chambers designed to control the distribution and movement of urine inside the pouch.

Anti-reflux / non-return system

Twist Tap outlet

The current SenSura® Mio urostomy range incorporates Coloplast's Twist Tap outlet.

The Twist Tap is designed to provide a secure closure while helping reduce residual urine dripping from the outlet following emptying.

It is designed for straightforward repeated opening and closing throughout the day.

When emptying:

• Position the outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle

• Open the Twist Tap according to the manufacturer's instructions

• Allow urine to drain completely

• Avoid allowing the outlet to contact the toilet or receptacle

• Wipe the outlet if required

• Close the tap securely

Always check that the outlet is fully closed after emptying.

Overnight drainage

SenSura® Mio urostomy pouches can be connected to an appropriate overnight urine drainage system.

This provides additional collection capacity during sleep and may reduce the need to wake repeatedly to empty the pouch.

When using overnight drainage:

• Use the appropriate compatible connector or adaptor

• Ensure all connections are secure

• Position the night drainage bag below the level of the urostomy pouch

• Keep the tubing free from kinks

• Avoid trapping tubing beneath the body or bedding

• Ensure tubing does not pull on the pouch

• Check that urine flows freely into the drainage bag

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for both the urostomy appliance and drainage system.

Neutral Grey textile cover

Neutral Grey variants incorporate SenSura® Mio's soft textile woven covering.

The material is designed to look and feel more like clothing fabric than conventional medical pouch material.

Choosing the correct opening

These provide a defined initial opening while allowing limited enlargement where required.

Measuring the stoma

Measure the urinary stoma using an appropriate stoma measuring guide.

The finished opening should:

• Fit closely around the stoma

• Avoid rubbing against it

• Avoid constricting it

• Minimise exposed peristomal skin

• Follow the actual shape of the stoma where required

An opening that is too large can expose surrounding skin to urine and increase the risk of leakage and skin irritation.

An opening that is too small can rub against or constrict the stoma.

Do not enlarge an opening beyond the manufacturer's stated cutting range.

Opening size and convexity are separate considerations

Correct opening size does not automatically mean that the selected convex profile is appropriate.

Deep Convex selection also depends on:

• Stoma protrusion

• Whether the stoma opening is above, level with or below the skin

• Depth of the surrounding inward area

• Abdominal folds and creases

• Peristomal skin condition

• Previous leakage

• Pressure tolerance

• Individual body profile

Persistent leakage despite an accurately fitted opening may indicate that appliance profile or convexity requires reassessment.

Applying the appliance:

Wash and dry your hands.

Measure the stoma carefully.

Select the appropriate Deep Convex pouch and opening range.

Prepare the opening according to the measured stoma and manufacturer's cutting guide.

Ensure the drainage tap is securely closed.

Gently remove the existing appliance while supporting the surrounding skin.

Clean the peristomal skin according to the normal stoma-care routine.

Ensure the skin is appropriately clean and dry.

Remove the protective backing from the adhesive.

Centre the opening carefully over the stoma.

Apply the Deep Convex baseplate around the stoma.

Press gently but firmly to establish secure contact.

Smooth the adhesive outward.

Check for:

• Gaps

• Folds

• Creases

• Areas without secure skin contact

Apply gentle hand pressure around the baseplate to help establish an effective seal.

Emptying the pouch:

Empty the pouch regularly and before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Position the outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle.

Open the drainage tap according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Allow urine to drain completely.

Avoid allowing the outlet to touch the toilet or receptacle.

Wipe the outlet if necessary.

Close the tap securely.

Check that it is fully closed before repositioning clothing.

Changing the appliance:

Because this is a one-piece appliance, the pouch and Deep Convex adhesive baseplate are removed together.

Wash and dry your hands.

Gently lift an edge of the adhesive.

Support the surrounding skin while slowly peeling the appliance away.

Avoid rapidly pulling the adhesive from the skin.

Dispose of the used appliance appropriately.

Clean and inspect the peristomal skin before applying a replacement appliance.

Monitoring pressure from Deep Convex

Deep Convex provides greater support than Soft or Light Convex appliances.

The surrounding skin should therefore be monitored for:

• Persistent redness

• Pressure marks

• Soreness

• Pain

• Skin breakdown

• Ulceration

A Deep Convex appliance should provide sufficient support to improve the seal without causing excessive or damaging pressure.

Persistent pressure-related skin changes should be assessed by a Stoma Care Nurse.

• Cloudy or unusually foul-smelling urine, fever, flank pain or other symptoms suggesting urinary infection require appropriate clinical assessment

• Significant changes in stoma colour or appearance should also be assessed appropriately
