Coloplast SenSura® Mio Convex Light 1-Piece Closed Pouches are convex one-piece colostomy appliances designed for stomas that are level with the skin and require moderate support to protrude into the pouch.

The Light Convex baseplate combines stability around the stoma with flexibility during body movement. It is particularly suitable for flush stomas and stomas situated within dipped or mildly uneven peristomal areas, where a gentle convex curve can help establish more secure contact with the skin.

SenSura® Mio Convex Light incorporates BodyFit Technology®, integrated flexlines and Coloplast's full-circle filter, together with a soft textile covering designed for comfortable and discreet everyday wear.

The pouch and convex adhesive baseplate are permanently joined, creating a complete one-piece closed appliance that is removed and replaced when the pouch requires changing.

What is Light Convex?

SenSura® Mio Convex Light provides a moderate level of convex support.

Convexity creates controlled pressure around the stoma to help the stoma project more effectively into the pouch and improve the seal between the appliance and surrounding skin.

Coloplast describes Light Convex as suitable for stomas with an opening level with the skin that require moderate help to protrude, as well as dipped areas where a light curve helps achieve an appropriate fit.

This makes Light Convex different from:

• Convex Soft – gentler convex support

• Convex Light – moderate convex support

• Convex Deep – stronger convex support for deeper inward areas

Convexity should be selected following an appropriate stoma assessment, particularly where a convex appliance has not previously been used.

Integrated flexlines

SenSura® Mio Convex incorporates integrated flexlines within the convex baseplate.

These are designed to provide a combination of:

• Stability immediately around the stoma

• Flexibility further away from the stoma

• Movement with the abdomen

• Secure skin contact during normal activity

A convex appliance needs sufficient stability to provide pressure around the stoma while remaining flexible enough to move comfortably with the body.

BodyFit Technology®

SenSura® Mio incorporates an elastic adhesive with BodyFit Technology®.

The adhesive is designed to stretch and move with the body rather than behaving as a rigid surface.

This allows the appliance to adapt during:

• Sitting

• Walking

• Bending

• Changes in posture

• Normal abdominal movement

Maintaining close contact between the adhesive and skin can help reduce gaps where stoma output could reach the peristomal skin.

Closed pouch

This is a closed colostomy pouch.

It does not have a drainage outlet.

When the pouch contains sufficient output to require changing, the complete one-piece appliance is removed and replaced.

Closed pouches are generally most appropriate where output is:

• Formed

• Semi-formed

• Relatively predictable

• Produced at manageable intervals

They are therefore primarily designed for colostomy.

For frequent liquid or semi-liquid output, a drainable ileostomy pouch is generally more practical.

Full-circle filter

SenSura® Mio incorporates Coloplast's full-circle filter.

Gas generated by the bowel can accumulate inside a closed pouch and cause ballooning.

The filter is designed to:

• Help reduce ballooning

• Maintain a flatter pouch profile

• Improve discretion

Coloplast reports that the full-circle filter reduces incidents of ballooning compared with conventional filter designs.

Textile woven cover

SenSura® Mio uses a soft textile woven pouch cover designed to look and feel more like clothing fabric than conventional medical pouch material.

Cut-to-fit / starter openings

The opening should be prepared according to the actual measured size and shape of the stoma.

Do not cut beyond the stated range for the selected appliance.

25mm and 28mm options

References 16530 / 19586 have a 25mm pre-cut starting opening that may be enlarged up to 33mm.

References 16531 / 19587 have a 28mm pre-cut starting opening that may also be enlarged up to 33mm.

These variants provide the convenience of a defined initial opening while still permitting limited adjustment where required.

Choosing the correct opening:

Measure the stoma using an appropriate stoma measuring guide.

Select an appliance whose opening range accommodates the measured stoma.

The finished opening should:

• Fit closely around the stoma

• Avoid rubbing against the stoma

• Avoid constricting it

• Minimise exposed peristomal skin

• Follow the actual stoma shape where necessary

An opening that is too large may allow stoma output to reach the surrounding skin and increase the risk of irritation and leakage.

An opening that is too small may rub against or constrict the stoma.

Choosing the correct convexity

Opening size and convexity are separate considerations.

A correctly sized opening will not compensate for an inappropriate convex profile.

Consideration should be given to:

• How far the stoma protrudes

• Whether the stoma is flush or retracted

• Depth of any peristomal dip

• Abdominal folds

• Skin condition

• Previous leakage

• Individual body profile

If the appliance applies excessive pressure, fails to establish a seal or leakage persists, the convexity should be reassessed.

Directions:

Wash and dry your hands.

Measure the stoma carefully.

Select the appropriate Light Convex opening range.

Prepare the opening according to the manufacturer's cutting guide if required.

Gently remove the existing appliance while supporting the surrounding skin.

Clean the peristomal skin according to the normal stoma-care routine.

Ensure the surrounding skin is appropriately clean and dry.

Remove the protective backing from the adhesive.

Centre the prepared opening carefully over the stoma.

Apply the convex baseplate around the stoma.

Press gently but firmly to establish contact with the skin.

Smooth the adhesive outward.

Check the complete baseplate for:

• Gaps

• Folds

• Creases

• Areas without secure skin contact

Apply gentle hand pressure around the appliance to help establish a secure seal.

Changing the pouch:

Because this is a one-piece closed pouch, the complete appliance is removed and replaced.

Change the pouch before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Wash and dry your hands.

Gently lift an edge of the adhesive.

Support the surrounding skin while slowly peeling the baseplate away.

Avoid rapidly pulling the adhesive from the skin.

Dispose of the used appliance appropriately.

Clean and inspect the peristomal skin before applying a replacement pouch.
