Coloplast SenSura® Mio Convex Light 1-Piece Drainable Pouches are one-piece convex ileostomy appliances designed for stomas that are approximately level with the skin and require moderate support to protrude into the pouch.

The Light Convex baseplate provides a gentle-to-moderate curved profile designed to improve contact around shallow inward, dipped or mildly uneven peristomal areas while remaining flexible enough to move with the body.

SenSura® Mio Convex Light combines BodyFit Technology®, integrated flexlines, a full-circle pre-filter and a soft textile woven cover with a drainable pouch suitable for repeated emptying throughout the day.

The pouch and convex adhesive baseplate are permanently joined, creating a complete one-piece drainable appliance.

What is Light Convex?

SenSura® Mio Convex Light provides moderate convex support.

The curved baseplate applies controlled support around the stoma to help improve protrusion into the pouch and maintain close contact between the adhesive and surrounding skin.

Coloplast describes Light Convex as particularly suitable where:

• The stoma opening is level with the skin

• Moderate help is required to encourage protrusion

• The area around the stoma is slightly dipped

• A light curve is needed to obtain a secure fit

This makes it different from the other SenSura® Mio Convex profiles.

Convex Soft

Provides gentler support and is typically considered where the stoma protrudes above skin level but folds, creases or softer body contours affect the seal.

Convex Light

Provides moderate support for stomas around skin level and shallow inward areas.

Convex Deep

Provides stronger support for stomas below skin level or deeper inward areas.

The appropriate convexity should be selected according to the stoma and surrounding body profile.

Integrated flexlines

SenSura® Mio Convex incorporates integrated flexlines within the convex baseplate.

These are designed to provide a combination of:

• Stability close to the stoma

• Convex support where required

• Flexibility during body movement

• Comfortable bending

• Secure skin contact

This helps the convex baseplate maintain support without making the entire appliance excessively rigid.

BodyFit Technology®

The SenSura® Mio adhesive incorporates BodyFit Technology®.

The elastic adhesive is designed to follow individual body contours and move with the abdomen during everyday activities.

This allows the appliance to adapt during:

• Sitting

• Walking

• Bending

• Stretching

• Changes in posture

• Normal abdominal movement

Maintaining close contact between the adhesive and skin is important for reducing gaps where ileostomy output could reach the peristomal skin.

Drainable ileostomy pouch

This is an open / drainable pouch.

It is particularly suited to ileostomy output, which is commonly liquid or semi-liquid and may require emptying several times throughout the day.

Unlike a closed pouch, the appliance does not need to be removed each time it fills.

The drainage outlet allows the user to:

• Empty the pouch

• Clean the end of the outlet

• Securely close it again

• Continue wearing the appliance

The pouch should be emptied before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Full-circle pre-filter

SenSura® Mio Convex Light incorporates Coloplast's full-circle pre-filter.

Ileostomy output can interfere with conventional pouch filters. The pre-filter is designed to help protect the filtering system and maintain gas flow.

It helps:

• Reduce filter clogging

• Reduce pouch ballooning

• Allow intestinal gas to leave the pouch

• Filter odour

• Maintain a flatter pouch profile

• Improve discretion during wear

Textile woven cover

SenSura® Mio uses a soft textile woven pouch covering designed to resemble clothing fabric rather than conventional medical pouch material.

The cover is designed to be:

• Soft against the body

• Comfortable during everyday wear

• Discreet beneath clothing

• Water-repellent

Midi or Maxi?

Midi

Provides a more compact pouch profile.

Neutral Grey Midi options:

Maxi

Provides greater collection capacity and a wider choice of opening sizes.

Maxi may be particularly useful where:

• Ileostomy output is frequent

• A larger pouch capacity is preferred

• A wider opening range is required

• The user wants to reduce the frequency of emptying

Choosing the correct opening range

Available starter-hole / cut-to-fit ranges include:

• 10–23mm

• 15–33mm

• 31–43mm

• 10–43mm

The selected range must accommodate the actual measured stoma.

The finished opening should:

• Fit closely around the stoma

• Avoid touching or rubbing against it

• Avoid constricting it

• Minimise exposed peristomal skin

• Follow the actual shape of the stoma where required

This is particularly important with ileostomy output because digestive enzymes can irritate exposed skin.

Do not cut outside the stated cutting range of the selected appliance.

25mm and 28mm adjustable options

Several Maxi products have defined openings that can still be enlarged slightly.

25mm opening, adjustable to 33mm:

These provide a prepared initial opening with some additional adjustment where required.

Opening size and convexity are separate

Correct stoma opening size and correct convexity are both important.

An accurately cut opening cannot compensate for an unsuitable convex profile.

Factors affecting convexity selection include:

• Stoma protrusion

• Whether the stoma is above, level with or below skin level

• Depth of any inward area

• Skin folds and creases

• Abdominal contours

• Previous leakage

• Peristomal skin condition

• Pressure tolerance

Persistent leakage despite the correct opening size may indicate that the appliance profile requires reassessment.

Applying the appliance:

Wash and dry your hands.

Measure the stoma carefully.

Select an appliance with an appropriate opening range.

Cut or adjust the opening according to the manufacturer's instructions if required.

Ensure the drainable outlet is securely closed.

Gently remove the existing appliance while supporting the surrounding skin.

Clean the peristomal skin according to the normal stoma-care routine.

Ensure the skin is appropriately clean and dry.

Remove the protective backing from the adhesive.

Centre the opening carefully over the stoma.

Apply the Light Convex baseplate around the stoma.

Press gently but firmly to establish secure skin contact.

Smooth the adhesive outward.

Check for:

• Gaps

• Creases

• Folds

• Areas without complete contact

Apply gentle hand pressure around the baseplate to help establish a secure seal.

Emptying the pouch:

Empty the pouch before it becomes excessively full or heavy.

Position the drainage outlet over a toilet or suitable receptacle.

Open the pouch outlet according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Allow the contents to drain.

Clean the end of the outlet as required.

Securely close the outlet.

Check that it is completely closed before repositioning clothing.

Regular emptying helps reduce:

• Weight pulling on the adhesive

• Pressure on the convex baseplate

• Bulging beneath clothing

• Unnecessary tension on the appliance

Changing the appliance:

Because this is a one-piece appliance, the pouch and Light Convex adhesive baseplate are removed together.

Wash and dry your hands.

Gently lift an edge of the adhesive.

Support the surrounding skin while slowly peeling the appliance away.

Avoid rapidly pulling the adhesive from the skin.

Dispose of the used appliance appropriately.

Clean and inspect the peristomal skin before applying a replacement appliance.

• Empty the pouch regularly before it becomes excessively full or heavy

• Ensure the drainage outlet is completely secured after emptying

• Check regularly for signs of leakage

• Ileostomy output can irritate exposed peristomal skin

• Check surrounding skin for redness, soreness, maceration or breakdown

• Check for persistent pressure marks from the convex baseplate

• Persistent leakage may indicate that opening size or convexity requires reassessment

• Persistent pain or pressure-related skin changes should also prompt reassessment

• Convex products should be selected following appropriate stoma assessment

• Seek advice from a Stoma Care Nurse for recurrent leakage, persistent skin irritation, pressure-related problems or uncertainty regarding convexity

• Significant changes in stoma colour, marked swelling, severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting or unexpected cessation of ileostomy output with symptoms of obstruction require appropriate clinical assessment
